i may not follow voltron nearly as closely as you do, but i've been reading your most recent posts about how it doesn't make sense that the garrison demonized shiro; or that either of keith's parents were abusive or evil; or that the galra would be a feral, vicious, werewolfy race; etc, etc. i can't help but notice a pattern - some people can't help but insert angst for the sake of angst.

I mean, I dunno if I’d call it “angst” as much as... malice? Like people are... more or less, within the ballpark of the effect but they way oversimplify or misconstrue the cause. “The Garrison/Dad Kogane/the galra/Shiro/etc. did this because they’re Mean And Terrible People”

This is kinda what I was talking about back in this post- that if something has an obvious negative effect, that it’s pretty common for the fandom to immediately have zero sympathy for the person who seems responsible even if there’s a lot of evidence they’re not this kind of person, or don’t feel that way.

Like- back in It Could Have Been Great and Message Received Peridot gleefully talking up the fair and methodical Yellow Diamond only to be shouted down by her an episode later- to me, it was pretty blatantly a warning that this is unlike YD. She’s acting against her established nature for thousands of years- because she’s clearly got no skill deceiving people or she never would’ve even gotten into that argument with Peridot.

Someone actually deceptive would know to carefully watch what they say even around ostensibly irrelevant subordinates. Someone with a lot to hide would be much more careful about how they talk to people. Yellow Diamond is honest to the point of tactlessness.

But the fandom, by and large, latched onto this image of YD as a master manipulator even when her first onscreen act is to completely fail to persuade someone who is the equivalent of a fish in a barrel- who idolized and believed in her. YD is the furthest cry from charismatic, but, holding onto that impression- that she’s knotted up in all kinds of bad things, therefore it must all be directly and willfully her fault because she loves suffering- you have theories that she was somehow able to manipulate Rose into taking the fall for stealth-assassinating Pink Diamond for...... absolutely no obvious gain since everything we see of YD suggests she’s stressed, overworked, and does not take any particular joy from her position as much as she sees this as the One Thing She Was Born To Do.

But again- that’s all irrelevant. That it makes sense with the person’s characterization doesn’t make sense- people look at the end result and say “this is evil! An evil person must have done it,” and look for whoever seems the shadiest.(Or, in misunderstanding what makes a compelling twist, they look for whoever’s the most straitlaced, benign-seeming party)

Disney Show AU: Sonny with a Chance (’09-’11) is Romelle with a Chance!

As per usual, all characters are completely their own individual people. If you don’t agree well *shrugs* Enjoy!

Romelle as Sonny Munroe, the new girl in Hollywood. Romelle is a huge fan of the two rival shows So Random! and Lawrence Rises. Romelle is from a small town in the Midwest, who aspires to become an actress and later singer. She regularly appears on the teen comedy sitcom series So Random! and sometimes on Lawrence Rises, though she has more fun when working on the latter. Lance helped her overcome her fear of singing in public and later aspires to become a singer as well.

Lance McClain as Nico Harris, a model, actor, singer and songwriter. He has a deep rivalry with Keith, though the former really doesn’t see it. He is a flirt and outspoken person who is also fluent in Spanish. He also works alongside Hunk, Pidge, Matt and Romelle on So Random!. He has been known to be very welcoming to the people who guest star on So Random!, though he says the worst guest star was Lotor by far. He also has a close relationship with Shiro.

Hunk Garrett as Grady Mitchell, a celebrity chef and former child star. He is Lance’s childhood friend and a star on So Random!. Hunk found his love of cooking through Lance, who was close to having a meltdown due to his overbooked schedule. Hunk’s secret brownie recipe is one of the methods that can calm Lance down. Hunk is also very welcoming to guests stars on his shows and also loves experimenting with new foods. He is secretly dating with one of the studio’s costume designers, Shay.

Katie Holt/Pidge Gunderson as Zora Lancaster, a famous child actor who is a regular on So Random! along with their brother Matt. They are very smart and have a great understanding of technology, something they share with their brother and Hunk. They were pushed into acting by their grandmother because of how cute their were, but decided to rebrand themselves as Pidge Gunderson, in an attempt to step away from their childhood “girl” image.

Matt Holt is Pidge’s brother and an actor on So Random!, along with Lance, Hunk, and Romelle. Much like Pidge and the others, he doesn’t like Lotor very much. Matt is very good friends with Shiro ever since they starred a buddy cop movie together. Not only does his resume include comedy films, Matt has also starred in several Sci-Fi films with Pidge, their favorite genre; action movies with Keith, and many others. Matt hopes to one day star in a romance film, since it’s the only genre he hasn’t been in yet, even though he little to no experience in love.

Lotor Daibazaal as M!Tawni Hart, a child star who shot to fame with his acting skills and good looks. Ever since he became the bad boy lead role as Lawrence Masters in the teen drama series Lawrence Rises, some of his most prominent roles have been bad boys. He often openly flirts with Lance and Allura when given the chance. He was once a guest star on So Random!, which Lance says one of the worst experiences of his career, a statement that the So Random! cast agrees with. His four bodyguards are always with him wherever he goes.

Keith Kogane as Chad Dylan Cooper, a famous teen idol actor who appeared with Lance on a TV show when they were younger, with Keith playing the lead, which launched him into stardom. Keith turned his attention away from television and has focused on his favorite genre, action movies since then. When he isn’t on a movie set, Keith is often featured on So Random! and Lawrence Rises as a guest star. He is very close with Shiro.

Takashi “Shiro” Shirogane is a model and actor who know is close with Keith. They view each other as brothers. Shiro has also starred in many of the same movies alongside Keith. Shiro has also witnessed one of Lance’s meltdown and helped him calm by singing Lance’s childhood lullaby with him. There is not one person who says anything bad about Shiro, calling a gentleman and an angel. His openly gay and is engaged to his long time boyfriend, Adam.

(Princess) Allura Altea is the owner and director of Altea Studios, the company that produces So Random!, Lawrence Rises and many other shows and movies. She was once a child actor, but quit to take over the studio when her parents passed away. Allura is a kind person who is always looking out for the actors and actresses that sign on with the company. She and Lance starred together in a TV movie holiday special when they were younger. She also knows about his near meltdowns and is always looking out for Lance, which reporters and gossip magazines have interpreted as a secret love affair, which they both deny.

Coran is Allura’s assistant who helps her manage Altea Studios as well as the actors. He gives strange life advice to the actors and also gives a shoulder to cry on when they need it. He is called Uncle Coran, or more commonly called Space Uncle for his eccentric mannerisms. Much like Allura’s mother, Melenor, Coran was once a Hollywood star who was often in slapstick comedy films and a few space odyssey films alongside Allura’s father, Alfor.
