I will no longer be using this blog (not that I have in years), but I have no intention of resuming it. boycott eurovision 2024 and indefinitely until isra*l gets kicked out or ceases to exist. that’s all. there’s no way around it. it’s a shame when something I loved this much and grew up watching is so close to my home, but it’s been twisted into something so wicked with zero ethics, where money and the western status quo are the only thing that are given power. thousands upon thousands of not millions have called for the ebu to dq isræl, but they are not moving at all. if the song gets disqualified for “political lyrics” despite multiple alterations that’s the ebu taking the coward’s way, and unless isra*l ceases to exist, they will no doubt be welcomed back into the contest, just like bęlarus technically can apply to rejoin soon despite numerous breaches of ebu guidelines.
no doubt the ebu is aware of all this account posted, but they clearl refuse to move
so the best we can do now is make eurovision as irrelevant as possible. don’t tune in, don’t talk about the entries. a show legitimizing israël’s genocide and apartheid in any form should not be given any attention nor money. please make a moral decision and listen to palèstinian voices. don’t stay within the comfortable and “fun” habits of watching this that I and many others grew up with … anything legitimizing isræl literally kills
#ieieotm#spamming Eurovision’s social media with palēstinian flags or trending ban Isræl from eurovision does nothing they dgaf#and all those weird strategies ‘what if we boycott and Isræl wins’ is BULLSHIT#if Isræl ‘wins’ a competition that no one watches its not like that means anything#it’s not like that legitimizes them#if we all recognize said competition as something unethical we should ignore

“Uku Suviste lost Eesti Laul 2019 to the Swedish Victor Crone, and complained that ‘Only Estonians should represent Estonia’, which is ironic since Estonia’s only winning act included Dave Benton, who is from Aruba.” - Swedish commentators

im so tired of christer björkman (hes commentating for sweden now) saying that he likes it when music has ethnic influences and you can tell where it’s from by the sound but also proud of every entry produced and written by swedish people and almost only compliments the classical pop songs

one day i’m going to write a thinkpiece of how the general eurovision fandom views any ethnic minorities, because even when people don’t intend to incorporate racial biases, or when they’re saying something nice i get veryyy strange vibes. for example i’ve seen a lot of people comparing manizha with jamala(!!!), and whilst both are very talented and artistic women, the similarities aren’t that many? i feel like people a lot of people connect them because they’re from eastern europe and also percievably “foreign” (maybe jamala less percievably so, but everyone in the general eurovision community knows she’s crimean tatar and that her family was deported to central asia).
it also shows in a very common comment about eurovision 2020 and 2021 - i saw so many people saying things like how it’s cool to “have so much african culture” or “so many african-americans” - instantly putting all black contestants in one category, when for example jeangu macroy is neither from africa or “african american” (which people usually use for black usamerican), but from suriname. i know the community is mainly white and european, but ihghgh this makes me uncomfortable and i wish people thought more about their possible inherent biases before saying Things.
#i know these things are (generally) not ill intended#but it gives me bad vibes#the fact that people always lump minorities together like this and compare them is just...hmmmm#sorry abt this#and tbh some similarities can be seen between russian woman (the song) and some of jamala's works so i really earnestly hope#that that's what people mean (it's just that i've seen some indications that it's not *always* the intent)#ieieotm

something else that pisses me off with eurovision fans is how apart from her winning esc all everyone associates with jamala is the question “crimea is ukraine?” which was not asked to make maruv look bad btw other hosts said harsher things/asked more pressuring and direct questions but they weren’t in english and no one took notice and to this day so many people treat jamala like a joke, and treat crimea and the annexation of crimea as a joke? like “here she comes dragging politics into everything 🙄” when her home was invaded and she and thousands of others can’t return there (and more people are unsafe) idk how to tell you this but your first association with jamala and crimea being this and treating it like a funny meme or joke is...not funny actually ... you can feel however you want about this and her and her music but don’t vilify her for being upset and cautious around people regarding their stance on crimea - it wasn’t a personal question here tho, it was preparatory for what reporters might ask maruv at esc - and idk don’t treat this like a funny punchline... people have died...
and jamala personally had nothing to do with ua:pbc not sending maruv to esc - a random celebrity judge doesn’t have any actual executive power and doesn’t decide contract details lmao
#ieieotm#it’s been two years but bc the eurovision fandom won’t let a dead horse lie I guess I’ll complain too#i really only open this blog to complain...#I’ll talk about other things when esc actually comes along#I could have phrased this better but if you still pull the ‘crimea is ukraine???’ meme at me in 2021 or act like jamala is the worst person#to ever have graced the eurovision stage ...#ugh
