this deleted scene from 3x07 is so interesting to me from a rava perspective. 'anti-fascist twitter fascists' and 'the left, huh? eating their own'... like obviously, it's not surprising to see this attitude from someone who married the crown prince of waystar 'hate speech and rollercoasters' royco. but rava clearly dislikes logan and waystar in general at this point, so i think it's interesting to see that even with that bias the people she makes fun of are the ones criticizing shiv for going along with her family's support of mencken. i mean i do think she's ribbing shiv a little too with the secret meetings and memes mentions, but i also read her as sincere when she says it's not a big deal and it's obvious shiv didn't want to do it and people throwing out her career over one picture are absurd. logan's bad, mencken's bad, but people are being overdramatic.
honestly, it's kind of easy to imagine her using ken's language in this conversation and saying the people are 'too online' and have 'lost context'. the situations aren't the same, but that's actually kind of my point.
rava chose to marry kendall, whose entire identity since childhood has been shaped around one day inheriting waystar. she criticizes him in 4x07 for running 'a racist news organization' while she was raising their kids, but there's no way she didn't about waystar's politics when she married kendall. like yeah, i'm sure kendall talked a lot about how he'd take waystar into the 21st century and offered weak rebuttals to some of the more offensive comments logan made but come on. even if she fully bought into kendall's second coming delusions, they got married at like 24/25 so the real change happens from the inside revolution was gonna have to wait while he put in some hours. that wasn't a dealbreaker - his drug use and deadbeat behavior was.
i think the way she handwaves the mencken stuff is probably the same way she handwaved away all the waystar politics during the early years of their marriage, before it became clear kendall would put the company before her and the kids, which was the real issue. atn supporting mencken goes from a laughing matter to serious concern within a few months because now that she sees it impact her daughter, it's real. (of course, kendall's concerned about rape culture, he has a daughter. of course, rava's concerned about racism, she has a south asian child.)
yes, she does genuinely worry about sophie, which, you know. is more than you can say about kendall, who's primarily worried about how it looks. but her reaction is really just another way in which all the roys treat the election (and everything) as just part of their domestic drama. roman's upset about the roast chicken. and rava's angry kendall's once again unconcerned about his children's safety, but this time he's doing so by supporting a nazi instead of leaving coke on the kids' ipads. any implications beyond that, what it means for the rest of the world - it's all secondary.
