The #fluorescentlights above the #workbench make it really hard to see the color without #tweaking the image a little, but here's the #sapele and #walnut #box that I've been #building . I used my skills to #designonthefly (a fancy way of saying that I don't know what I'm doing ) I still have to decide which wood I'm putting in the center. The #zinnsser #shellac went on well for most of the box, but I ended up messing up the lid. I'm going to wait for it to fully cure, and then #sand it off. Just for #shitsandgiggles I decided to make a #box from some #redoak that I #salvaged from a #pallet this afternoon. A few different views of the first #box that I made with my #routertable #boxjoint or #fingerjoint #sled . I made it out of some #scrap #poplar that I used my #dewalt #flexvolt #tablesaw and cleaned up with my #stanleynumber5 and #craftsman #smoothingplane on a #benchhook . I #finished it with #minwax #honey272 and #polycrylic #waterbased #polyurethane . I attached a #brass #chain to the #sapele and #walnut #box to keep the lid from swinging too far (I worked on it while waiting for poly to dry on another project.) I ended up taking a link out of the chain after this picture was taken. Of course, I used my #dewalt #20voltmax #hammerdrill to #drill the #pilothole for the #screw . That's about the smallest space I can fit it into. I bought some #cheap #underlayment #plywood from #homedepot to use as backing for various #projects and I found this. I'm not sure what the face is, but it looks like it has a #spalted pattern to it.
