Vaggie bc why not
i think that vaggie is very underdeveloped and that chaggie is a very plain and boring ship (they're cute tho) the only moment that made me go "awww they're so cute" was in the more than anything reprise which was in the last episode (not a good thing)
anyways i think vaggie had a lot of potential and yea, she pretty

Book Reviews: The Handmaid's Tale
o shit that was quick
it took me two days and it's: The Handmaid's Tale by Margaret Atwood
rating: 4/5 - 4.5/5
i highly doubt there's anything i could say that hasn't already been said lmfao. very good i very much liked. i like how conflicted offred feels about the whole Deal: obv im not an expert, but it feels like a very natural response to trauma. i like how very much written in the 80s it feels (no mention of mobile phones, everything vaguely techy is called a compu--). all of the characters feel real and.. slightly empty? but in a realistic way. all of the characters feel like cutouts but in a way that enhances the story and helps us get a better idea of offred's place in it. i want a series following pieixoto he's there for like five minutes at the end but im a sucker for any 'history buff characters'.
let's talk abt the stuff i didnt like as much
obv it was written 37 years ago (and the fact it still holds up is a testament to how good it is) but, in retrospect, the religious ideology isn't that realistic. i could be talking out of my ass, i wasnt around in 1985 US so idk what the religious climate looked like at the time, but, if it was written today, the religious ideology of gilead would be very different (more radical evangelical than 'before unheard ideology'). this isn't exactly a thing i didnt like. more of an observation.
i get that it was the point, but i kinda wish the framing device was revealed earlier. it would've made earlier reading a lot less confusing, bc i was expecting a linear story. also if it wasn't famous, it's the type of writing style that'd be considered pretentious. the earlier 1/3rd or so drags a little, mostly bc of how (intentionally) gradually the world is built. im a sucker for world-building, so it took me a while to get super invested (hence why i enjoyed the last section so much). ive heard that the testaments resolves this issue somewhat and is focused on world-building so it's def on my reading list for this year.
did i enjoy it? yes! how much? still not sure. even while writing this, my brain has flickered between 4 and 5 stars. do i recommend it? yep!! it's a lil hard to get into, and it feels like it drags at first but i read most of it in less than 5 sittings soo
