I can't help but think of how there's an alternate version to the latest undercover chapter where Danny keeps the "combine" setting on and STILL gets away with his double identity for a moment longer. Or perhaps until the next round of skirting-around-the-truth shenanigans (if they get interrupted and separated long enough). Because Tucker and Sam already think these idiots are mind-melded, they will be screaming "Oh Hell this is Ten Times WORSE" at the sight of one whole Danny. Where did their other friend go?? Does he still exist in the other Danny's mind?? Is he there at all??? They will see that it was switched to "combine" and FLIP OUT.

Danny, being overtly conflict avoidant and skittish around the truth that could damage their relationship in this AU, could jump to the fastest means of calming them down: suggesting they redo the split and claiming he's fixed after. He couldn't directly break it to them like that, all wracked with existential stress. Danny needs calmer circumstances.

…..this could also get comedically absurd wherein they realize the fenton ghost catcher can give Phantom the ability to hide out as a human using Fenton (or hypothetically, to their knowledge, anyone else). And that has to be as close as you can POSSIBLY get to seeing Danny launch into ghost fights without connecting the dots gjkhbkv

i can't wait to make these three idiots suffer more with several more arcs that slowly slowwwwwly slip-slide their way to a full reveal >:3 there's just a lot of good emotion to dig into! the arc i'm currently working on is focusing on sam and tuck at the start but will switch to Danny at the mid-point I think, because ALSO you're completely spot-on in your description of Danny being "overtly conflict avoidant and skittish around the truth that could damage their relationship in this AU" like I don't think I could put it into words better myself, MWAH CHEFS KISS RIGHT THERE and LIKE, I really can't wait to keep digging into it hehehe
