So it's kind of being presented that the forehead touch is a Skrull greeting (ex. the scene where Priscilla introduces Fury and Gravik) but come on. The scenes where Talos and Soren, and Talos and Nick, respectively, were reunited show so much more intimacy and meaning than just an ordinary greeting; it's a real emotional moment on both accounts. The way they mirror each other is incredibly cool, and I love that in both it's insanely clear that Talos is locked in this embrace with someone he cares about deeply.

✗ I dont think he will be the most affectionate, it’s not his love language - and neither are words haHAH. His love language is most likely quality time and gift giving.

When he feels better he will come up to you and hug you into his chest so that he can’t see your face and you cant see his, then he will mumble an apology.

✗ Ever since you two began to date he has practiced apologising and getting better at apologising, this is because his inability to admit to his own mistakes was a sour patch in your relationship that almost ended it but he really did not want to lose you so he sucked up his pride and worked on what he had to; of course you also worked in what you had to. God I love character development 😩

✗ Dates are mostly at home dates or dates revolving around volleyball. If you're not into volleyball, Kageyama would not date you, it's something he is so passionate about and loves with every breath he takes (like you) and he refuses to compromise one love for the other. 

✗ ooooh he likes arcade dates a well! He thrives in a competitive environment. If you're not competitive and don't want to compete against him then he’ll compete for you - against the machines lol. Of course you play as well! But i doubt youre as competitive as this blueberry, and if you are - well i guess at the end of the day youll both be stacked in tokens 🤠

✗ Suga loves to cuddle, preferably face to face because he just thinks you're the most beautiful person in the world. 

✗ He is not the most jealous person, he definitely does get jealous but never of strangers. It's more when his close friends or your close friends get a bit too comfortable if that makes sense? He normally plays it off with humour and messes around because he acknowledges that he is insecure and that it is most likely him thinking of the worst case scenario; however if he really does start to worry and get jealous then he will sit you down and talk about it with you. To him, communication is key.

As we all know, he is shy and introverted but he likes to hang around and spend time with people he likes. He also talks a lot to them. So I hc that he’s a bit of a chatterbox with you and it makes him really happy when you let him talk about a game or a theory he has. He’s a great listener so you can count on him to pay attention to what you say.

✗ if you didn't already have one, he bought you a switch. He loves video game dates especially when he can't see you in person (*cough* lockdown *cough*) 

✗ he loves when you sit on his lap when he plays video games. I know everyone talks about sitting on their partner’s lap as some sexual thing and yeah that can happen but most of the time he’s really soft with you and just enjoys being close to you. Loves when you cuddle into him while he plays so that he can place his head on yours or your shoulder. 

✗ i think he is a bit shy when it comes to kisses but definitely warms up after a while. He absolutely refuses to sleep if he doesnt get your goodnight kisses. He loves to kiss you on your nose and your cheeks the most. He loves when you kiss him on the forehead and the nose <3

✗ kenma is not one for pda, it's just not his vibe. He prefers intimacy and privacy; his relationship is not a movie for the world to watch and gawk at. Especially timeskip!kenma. Though that does not mean he wont ever show you skinship in public, occasionally he will softly hold your hand and maybe press a light kiss to your cheek. 

✗ in terms of jealousy, he is moderate. Kenma, as we all know, has incredible people reading skills, so he understands the situation pretty clearly and knows when you’re uncomfortable/what you think of the situation. Most of the time you can deal with the unwanted attention and he doesnt get jealous, but he does get insecure. He shows this by going quiet and looking away when you look at him, you can cure this by giving him hugs when you get home.

✗ he is not jealous. He just doesn't get jealous, maybe annoyed if the third party is being a bit too pushy and you're clearly uncomfortable, but he just never feels jealous. No matter how hard you may try to make him jealous (plz dont cause that's kinda toxic imo) he just won't feel that way.

✗ oikawa 😳 have i told y'all how much i love him? Oikawa is the best written character, no cap, he is so complex and real it's crazy. It's so fun to write about him because you can pick him apart, you know his flaws, his weaknesses, his nightmares but also his strengths and dreams. Anywho i'll stop ranting now but i just love writing for such a perfectly imperfect character-

✗ he puts up a cocky exterior but thats all false. He's as scared as you are, he's scared that you'll leave him like his exes because of how obsessed and focused he is on volleyball. However he is a changed man, he's learned to balance his priorities. If you ever feel like you're being sidelined please communicate with him. 

✗ he values communication above all else and wants nothing more in a partner than for them to also value communication.

✗ back to the point → if you feel insecure of your relationship and that volleyball is taking too much of his attention let him know. He will change that. To an extent → he may have an important game coming up which is why he is focusing more, but he will always find time for you. 

✗ he never forgets to text you good morning and good night. He also sends you wholesome memes and makes sure you're taking care of yourself - they're like reminders for him to also take care of himself. 

✗ he is both jealous and insecure. Everyone who gets too close to you or spends a lot of time with you, he is jealous of. Jealous because he wishes he could spend more time with you but he knows he can't - not without jeopardising his volleyball career. He's also insecure, because he knows you could just leave him for a more fulfilling, more attentive, more balanced relationship. You know that too, I mean, of course you could leave him but no one would be as good as him. No one could match up to your beautifully flawed boyfriend.

✗ he is affectionate, very, very affectionate. He loves you so much. And because he spends so much time on volleyball, anytime with you he's touching you - memorizing every dint, every curve, everything about you so that he won't ever forget. 

✗ Oikawa has trouble sleeping unless he's with you, he wants to sling to you in his sleep and be grounded and remember that he is loved and cherished and appreciated y'know?

✗ pda is not an issue for him. He doesn't care what anyone else says or thinks :P in this relationship the only opinions that matter are his and your’s. Tell him you're uncomfortable with something and he won't do it, and vice versa. But otherwise, like Semi, he won't mind having a good makeout session with you in the middle of the street ;)

forever (4,738 words) some assorted femslash ficlets from tumblr that i immediately forgot about after february. it of course got buried under a deluge of jenny fic but there’s still some cute stuff there! i had a lot of fun in particular writing about bb willow and the beginnings of her attraction to girls

she’s your destiny (9,560 words) AHHHHHH I FORGOT I WROTE THIS. blessings of writing This Much. soulmate au with buffy/willow and giles/jenny where like. none of them are soulmates but they fall crazy in love anyway.

the happy-ending bouquet (3,851 words) set in 2018. giles and jenny have been married for something like 15 years and are still very happy and in love. basically just an endless deluge of fluff

personas (2,729 words) hhhhh i hesitate to count this as a 2018 fic, because i technically posted it in summer 2017 and then deleted it for reasons unknown (even to me). but there aren’t enough fics that explore jenny’s fractured sense of identity and her broken heart and i love my girl so much. so. wrote that.

something real (2,173 words) my valentine’s day fic!! a friend and i share the headcanon that jenny would have finally shoved her way back into giles’s heart if not for the love spell throwing her off, so. wrote a fic where that happened, albeit somewhat angstily.

direct, but not unwelcome (4,478 words) this fic always makes me cringe, a little; the office verse was written largely for faith and tara, and writing giles and jenny in it was a decision i don’t entirely like (mostly bc there really is no narrative place for either of them). but it has a few good lines ig?

the second choice soulmates (6,942 words) the inevitable faith/tara sequel to the soulmate au!! i had it planned from the second i started writing the first fic in that series, and i had a lot of fun with it. in which faith and tara have to deal with their soulmates being in love with each other, and end up falling in love themselves.

moments of connection in an uncertain world (3,351 words) the olivia/jenny fic that set that amazing ship on its course. set in asoue; jenny’s identity in the narrative is ambiguous bc jenny’s identity in every narrative is ambiguous. mystery bicon

amends (remixed) (2,988 words) i’m like 99 percent sure i spite-wrote this fic after watching amends bc that really seems like something i would do. in which ghost jenny makes sure buffy, angel, and giles all know that she doesn’t blame them for a single thing.

it’s a family affair (11 chapters) jenny, married to giles and mom to two daughters, loses her memory. i meant for this to be an exploration of jenny and giles’s relationship + jenny as a character, but with hindsight i feel like i kinda rushed it. maybe someday i’ll come back and expand this a little?

maybe i’m in love (24 chapters) CRIES. this fic was posted all in one day and got buried under the deluge of fic i wrote this year and i am still so sad that it remains forgotten. even by me. like i forgot it existed till now. but it is the treasure of my heart and i am still not sure what i can possibly do for calendiles day 2019 that will even come close to “slow burn giles/jenny series rewrite in script format.”

dragonslayers (8,048 words) i go back and forth between whether adding a sequel to a sappy-happy-ending fic was actually needed, but i had a lot of fun writing jenny and anya and tara being friends and adopting a dog. those girls deserve so much better.

tech support (1,315 words) jenny works at angel investigations, and giles meets her when he and buffy drive up to la to get a book. unabashed fluff.

family ties (2,294 words) giles introduces jenny to his dad and the aunts. i had giles call himself “rupert” for the entire fic and forgot to explain why i made the choice to do so (and there was a damn good reason!!!) so every time i see this fic....Regret™

i like you (992 words) the product of me realizing “wait, i never wrote a fic about my Very Specific Headcanon that giles and jenny had sex after school hard!!!” and then going ahead and writing that fic. not explicit; lots of giles and jenny being dumb and in love

the grieving process (9,771 words) this fic! was! such a trip to write! i wanted to write something where giles’s s6 issues were confronted. originally i wrote a jenny’s-alive fic where he goes to her place in la after leaving buffy in tabula rasa, but the mood of that fic was miserable and hostile, so i changed things ever so slightly. and then it became “giles goes to jenny after buffy dies,” and that transitioned into “giles actually finally gets to have an outlet for his emotions,” and then it became a very soft fic that i love very much.

unsolved mysteries (1,704 words) a modern jackaby au! where jenny cavanaugh has trauma-related anxiety and eats pretzels w jackaby in a hall closet! surprisingly soft.

the cleanup crew (2,968 words) post-ted; buffy calls jenny and giles in to help her with ted’s robot body. because that ep was a hot mess and too many things were tied up too fast.

coping (2,611 words) i really wanted to write about jenny and eyghon, bc there are like 0 fics that address the absolute mess that canon throws at that woman. so i did. very angsty with no clear happy ending, bc that’s what happens when you write canon compliant fic about jenny calendar.

yours (2,747 words) my first foray into writing phryne and jack! and, if the 4k-and-counting wip is anything to go by, definitely not my last. 2018 brought me a lot of things, but watching mfmm all the way through was definitely one of the best.

bless her soul (6,294 words) s3. jenny comes back wrong. lots of explorations of the guilt that buffy, giles, and angel harbored for jenny’s death, with none of the pain of using jenny solely as a mouthpiece for evil. so like. amends done right.

dear friend (1 chapter, so far) a you’ve got mail calendiles au that i really do intend to work on some more in 2019.

haunted (15,622 words) WHAT a note to end 2018 on. a (mostly) non-supernatural au in which jenny, after an intense & awful trauma, leaves sunnydale and buys a ridiculously inexpensive mansion in england. why was it so cheap? because giles, the ghost who lives there, has been scaring off buyers. naturally, jenny is not easily rattled.

Favorite Fic: it’s hard to choose bc i wrote so many but for now i’ll pick bless her soul. writing the-first-as-jenny and playing up scooby guilt while still getting to bring jenny back for a happy ending??? that was just so much fun.

Hardest Fic: very really married. absolutely. i was in a v weird place while writing that fic, so that certainly didn’t help, but that fic has been giving me Trouble since i started writing it.

What was the best thing about 2018? friendsssss!!! i’m entering 2019 with a lot of solid friendships, which really wasn’t the case in 2018. 

What was the worst thing about 2018? tbh the answer will always and forever be “my mom” until i am out of this house

“To improve is to change” - thoughts on Outlander S3E4

I saw many good posts about 3.04 already, but since I do love the changes in this episode, I’ll add my thoughts anyway! :)

Let’s start with Jamie’s storyline:

First of all, I really liked the portrayal of the Dunsany (DunsAny? Really?!) family. Especially Lady Isobel’s character, which is so much deeper and more vibrant than it is in the books. 

Jamie loosing his temper and showing his disrespect towards Geneva by dropping her in the mud. He has accepted his role as a servant to some extent, but his fiery nature is still there and he won’t swallow everything. This scene is also important in terms of the dynamic between these two characters - it shows both the deep dislike (at least from Jamie’s side) and the momentary crumbling of the social hierarchy between them, which is nothing but an illusion.

I’m glad the viewer gets the chance to witness the friendship between Jamie and LJG develop and strengthen throughout the episode. It’s endearing to see how much they enjoy each other’s company, even though John’s feelings for Jamie are obvious to both of them. His visits are also pretty much the only occasions where we see Jamie genuinely smiling (prior to Willie’s arrival).

Jamie touching John’s hand instead of kissing him was another very welcome change. It might even mean more to John than a kiss would have - a) because it’s an honest gesture by Jamie that comes from the heart, while a kiss would have been something he would have had to bring himself to do, and b) because he returns the gesture that he once was disgusted with when they first met in prison. 

Now…let’s talk about *the* scene, shall we? Let me start by saying that I like it. A lot. Here’s why:

It portrays two human beings. One of them, Geneva, suddenly isn’t the bitchy schemer anymore as soon as she steps on unknown territory, she’s just an insecure young woman, horrified at the thought of only ever being touched by a man who is old enough to be her grandfather. (Mind: I’m not in any way justifying what she did in order to get Jamie into her bed - that was a terrible thing to do. I’m just describing what I saw in that scene.)
The other human being in the room, Jamie, is a healthy man, so he’s obviously turned on by the young and beautiful woman in front of him. 

One can argue about the boob lick, but I personally don’t have any objections - simply because Jamie has always been portrayed as a „boob person“, at least in the show. This is the first time he sees and gets to touch a pair of breasts in years. 

The actual hmmpf-ing looked authentic - the coupling of two humans without any affection for each other, who are just having sex for the sake of it. Very technical, very enjoyable. But not at all like the firework sparking between Jamie and Claire. 

I saw people saying Jamie wasn’t sexy to look at and similar things. With that I don’t agree. I thought it was a hot scene (but, nope, not even close to the Jamie/Claire hotness). 


!!!Now, the most important aspects!!!:

The consent issue: solved. Jamie was forced to come to her bedroom but is still finding pleasure in having sex for the first time in many years. And Geneva never says the word „no“. Nor does she cry out in pain. Handled very well, imo. 👌🏼

Jamie stays true to his character - much more so than in the books. Because a) he honors Geneva by being gentle with her and trying to shut out his hostility and anger, as one would expect from him, and b) he DOESN’T call her loving nicknames, which I’m particularly grateful for. Reading about him calling her „mo ghraidh“ in the book always made me want to vomit. Also handled very well. 👌🏼

He doesn’t stay with her all night, it’s just this one time. And he doesn’t show any signs of affection afterwards either, not like he did in the book. He immediately gets up and away from her as soon as they’re done and she told him she loved him - and I especially love that he hands her her shift to cover herself. He doesn’t allow any sort of additional intimacy or familiarity to build between them. 👌🏼

AND, my favourite part: the scene closes with Jamie explaining to Geneva what love is - without looking at her. Making it crystal-clear that there’s only one person he’s ever loved and ever will love. 👌🏼

So, all in all, my personal conclusion is that *the* scene was handled brilliantly by the writers. Its existence was necessary - both because of Willie and to show the contrast between Jamie and Claire and any other pairing -, so they had to get it over with, but the way they filmed it, it allowed Jamie to stay true to his character and it didn’t involve the rape aspect. Take notes, Diana. I’d also like to add that Hannah James did a great, great job as Geneva. 

I was glad to see that they kept most of the Willie stuff the way it was in the book, but the one bigger change they made is possibly my favorite thing ever: SAWNY JUNIOR! 😍 I literally cheered when I saw it in the title card! It’s so like Jamie, and it’s such a brilliant idea to make the connection to Willie’s late namesake. I also adore that they included St. Anthony - it says so much about Jamie and his never-ending hope and love.  (And Jamie talking to baby Willie, reverently saying „You’re so wee“ made me tear up.)

The Claire/Bree/Roger storyline:

I don’t have a lot to say about their scenes because this episode was clearly focussed on Jamie, but the changes I love were:

I never knew how much I needed Claire’s life in Boston, along with her responsibilities, to catch up with her in Scotland. It’s not like Claire at all to simply forget about her patients, lbr. Especially not for such a long time. So I really liked to see Joe calling her (even though I was like „Woah, that must have been one heck of an expensive phone call“).

Claire, Brianna and Roger reaching a dead end in their research also adds to the realistic portrayal of that storyline. It always bugged me that the research went so smoothly in the book. It also makes Claire doubt and remember Mrs. Graham’s warning words about chasing a ghost. While very passionate and emotional, two of Claire’s most defining character traits are her rational mind and her sense of practicality. The twenty years apart from Jamie seem to have consolidated them even more. So it feels very much like something Claire would do - return to Boston, and thus return to what she has learned to come to terms with: a life without Jamie. Though her face on the plane says it all. She won’t be able to fully return to that life, because she now knows he hasn’t died and possibly is still alive, waiting for her to find him. I can’t wait for next week’s episode and Claire’s decision to go back.

4 name three authors that were influential to your work and tell why

tamora pierce, for certain! she's still one of my favorite fantasy writers, and she's the first fantasy writer i really enjoyed and read. (and, to be /completely/ honest, is one of the only real fantasy writers i've read outside of tolkien...i'm not that well-read in the genre i love to write, lol.) i think this her influence is a big reason my writing tends to be...concise and simple, compared to some fantasy? i value clarity above poeticness, i guess, and that's true with both non-fiction and fiction for me.

i'm going to mash them into one person because i haven't really read their books and they're /both/ behind much of the da stuf that has influenced me, but patrick weekes and david gaider are people that have influenced my writing of fantasy settings quite heavily. i will say that i think weekes is the better writer, just imo, though he does tend to get a bit too long-winded at times (which is something i strive to avoid in writing fiction). i like how gaider handles pov more, but i got annoyed when he kept using the same devise over and over to spur conversation and conflict throughout the same book....felt forced to me.

for the last one i'm gonna reference someone outside of the shinee fandom who i've read dozens of time -- @strangestquiet, who has written tons of great souji/yosuke (souyo) fics that i've loved and admired for years. persona 4 was the first fandom i really delved into fic reading with, and her work is incredible. and the way she writes souji/yosuke's relationship and them dealing with issues is very sensitive and just..expert. the dating sim she wrote for p4 is also enjoyable as hell. 

17 favorite AU to write

since i keep talking about da au over and over, i'm going to say host club au/pink drunk love was TONS of fun. i really just wrote it to take a break from da au, but i'm kinda happy with how it came out - i love writing things that are sensual feeling, if that makes sense, and at least in my head, that fic has a very strong sensual aesthetic while also tapping into some things that amp up its eroticism, if that makes sense (hotels, late nights, etc).

20 favorite character to write

jinki, for certain! whether i write him as reserved or outgoing, he tends to be very headstrong - sometimes even stubborn, or overly cocky. it's a flaw that can be a lot of fun to write. specifically, da au jinki is my fave (and my favorite preson to draw as well...i have a dozen sketches of him), but i'm falling for my jinki in my new au the more i get into writing him.

21 least favorite character to write

ugh, any villain, tbh. i feel guilty writing them somehow, as if i'm responsible for what they've done or how they're making the protagonist/hero feel. i didn't have this problem as much in the past, but now that i'm able to develop more full/rounded characters, i worry so much about the likeable traits the bad guys have.

24 favorite scene you’ve ever written

this is tough, cause there's been so many now! lmao

but off the top of my head, it's the last scene before the epilogue of da au. jinki /asking/ for jong to use magic on him to help with his pain just...means a lot, especially since i wrote it from jong's pov. ;-; there's so much cheesy symbolism in that, and as much as i love writing sex and characters bonding through it, i also love writing little gestures that give the show a similar kind of intimacy/trust.

26 story you’re most proud of

da au! even though i'm trying to make my new story even bigger, i'm not sure anything will beat that for me...jinki's past and his growth is really, really personal for me and i'm not sure i'll get to write a character like him again.

28 worst review you ever got

not sure if this counts as a review, but...all the people who were pissed as hell when book of blood ended up heading a jongyu direction (especially the people who acted like it came out of nowhere, despite the fact them kissing was mentioned in the first part i posted). the hate i got for it sucked, and hearing that the story felt pointless cause it wouldn’t end with the pairing someone thought it would really sucked. i think that was my longest fic i had done at that time (and like da au, was dealing with some really personal things), so i took it pretty hard at the time.

40 which one of your stories would you most like to see as a movie/series

on a purely #aesthetic level...da au, because jinki would look so pretty and handsome with vallaslin, and i'd love to see something i worked so hard on in a visual medium. but, unfortunately, i don't think da au would even be a movie i would enjoy watching...action scenes aren't something that excites me, and the parts of jinki's past from part 1 i think are better done in text than in film.

but! of the stories i've posted, i think synchronicity (since it's already based on a movie) would lend itself best to film. and hyung au, since it's a slow burn and a simple and happy gay story which there's not enough of in the world. ^^ plus, the subtle chemistry of jong and jinki (and the hints that slowly come up...in the next few parts) would be lots of fun to watch develop.
