We are a team.

I still remember those golden days playing scavenger hunt in my freshman year. The moment I saw a treasure hunt in our schedule, I was neither surprised nor excited about it. After a two-day recovery from the last trip, we had a brief city tour on Monday afternoon. However, we were forced to stop due to the rain. It was not bad walking in the rain for a girl living in Seattle though. Since there is no kitchen in our dorm, I have been having an egg craving for days. When sitting down in this hidden restaurant –Casa Bunicii, all my focus on the menu was any food with eggs. I was satisfied like a little girl and tried some more Romanian traditional food. Moreover, it was a little funny for me, a foreigner, seeing the green onion on the top of the dish. Why? :D

The next day, we participated in the treasure hunt, organized by the local committee. We were not allowed to use any means of technology, but a map. Being divided into two teams, it seemed like a coincidence that team members share similar characteristics. Team Green has a group of calm people while Team Red has another group of energetic people. Without further saying, the game started. Boys in my Team Green started running, and girls followed. We helped each other carrying backpacks and contributed to the team. We had been receiving a lot of stares since we are foreigners in this country. However, we were even stranger today. I saw people staring, I saw people laughing, and I saw people questioning. We were determined to win the game no matter what, and we did.

I am truly in love with every group pictures we took together. I am still amazed that we are from twelve different countries and share same, yet mostly different views in life. In the past two weeks, we lived in the same dorm, we traveled together, we had countless talks, and we had different habits and opinions. This treasure hunt was not designed for the win and the loss. It seemed like a moment for me, realizing that I now know much more about this city and about my team. While I was writing this afternoon, I read a quote from AIESEC Facebook page: “It’s not about the stereotypes anymore. It’s about the stories we create.”

The time went so fast that I didn’t realize that we had passed the Week Two. Attending other projects’ closing events made me feel emotional and fell into my little thoughts. We are a team and we create stories together. I will definitely cherish every single moment here.
