A PREVIEW OF INTERVIEW’S TO COME WITH THE GUYS FROM THE LI BREW CREW BY A MEMBER OF THE TEAM THE BRUTE FORCE BRAD WEISS
Tumblr media
Myself and the host of New York’s #1 Sports Show, The Sports Report, Tom Brice are proud to announce that we will have multiple members of the LI Brew Crew softball team on the show in the coming months! As a member of the LI Brew Crew myself, I’m excited to have many of my great teammates talk about there great careers, early days, and there experiences as a part of the Fall 2020 ABA St. Louis Cardinals Division Champion LI Brew Crew softball team! In this blog post, I provide an introduction to the guys on the team to preview what is to come and what we will speak about on the show!
#44 Brendan Fitzpatrick “Fitzmagic” – Fitzy is from Plainview, NY and attended Plainview JFKHS.
Our good friend Brendan Fitzpatrick has already been on The Sports Report with us on the September 2nd episode, which of course you can check out on our SoundCloud page SoundCloud.com/thesportsreport2019. Fitz played baseball with me growing up alongside the Supran brothers and Salty for the Hawks travel team that went to Cooperstown in 2010. At Plainview JFK, Fitz played on the varsity football team and of course on the 2014-15 varsity basketball team that won a playoff game for the 1st time in a decade on Valentine’s Day 2015 vs Long Beach! Fitzy of course then went on to Cortland to play basketball where he had a ton of success that we talk all about in the interview we had with him on The Sports Report! After college, he then joined the Fall 2020 ABA St. Louis Cardinals Softball Division Champion LI Brew Crew where he played in all 18 games batting .662 for the season with 47 hits to lead the team, 29 RBI’s which was 2nd on the team, and hit 5 home runs tied for 3rd on the team! Fitz’s RED HOT start to the season earned in 2 Brews of the Week this past season as well! Stay tuned because Fitz will definitely be back on the show soon!
Tumblr media
#11 Jake Guggenheimer “Guggs” – Guggs is from Great Neck, NY and attended Great Neck North HS.
During his time at Great Neck North with the Blazers varsity baseball team, Guggs earned all-league honors as a sophomore and was all-conference as a junior and senior at Great Neck North. Guggs then continued to play college baseball for the McGill Redbirds whose campus is in Montreal, Quebec, Canada. Guggs did a whole lot of winning during his time at McGill as the team won 3 STRAIGHT CANADIAN NATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIPS between 2016-2019 in his 1st 3 years at the school. Guggs played at the catcher position primarily and had one of best days at the plate on September 17th, 2017 when he went 3 for 5 with a double, 3 RBI’s, and stolen base! After college, he then joined the Fall 2020 ABA St. Louis Cardinals Softball Division Champion LI Brew Crew where he played in 12 games batting .564 for the season with 22 hits, 17 runs scored, 8 doubles which was tied for 2nd on the team, and 4 walks which was tied for 1st on the team! Guggs always brought great energy for the Brew Crew and was terrific wherever he was asked to play in the field! Stay tuned because Guggs will be on The Sports Report for the December 9th episode coming up soon!
#3 Jake Supran “J Supes” - J Supes is from Plainview, NY and attended Plainview JFKHS.
Before his days at Plainview JFK, he played with myself, K Supes, Fitzmagic, and Salty on the Plainview Hawks Travel baseball team that won multiple tournaments and made a trip to Cooperstown in 2010! At Plainview JFK, he had a great career playing on the Varsity baseball team and was one of the teams captain his senior season in 2016. J Supes then continued his baseball career in college at Ursinus College for the Bears between 2017-2020 where he appeared in 58 games, was apart of the Ursinus Bears team in 2017 that made it to the Centennial Conference Championship, was a member of the Centennial Conference Academic Honor Roll in 2020, and hit his 1st home run this past season that was shortened due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Speaking of homers, J Supes definitely hit plenty of those with the team him and his brother Kyle put together in the Fall 2020 ABA St. Louis Cardinals Softball Division Champion LI Brew Crew where he played in 16 games leading the team in almost every category including batting .683 for the season, 1st in runs scored (34), 1st in RBI’s (39), tied for 1st in doubles (9), 1st in triples (4), tied for 1st in walks (4), and 1st in OBP at .750. With these numbers, J Supes definitely deserved 2 Brew of the Week honors this past season! J Supes is one of the captains of the Brew Crew, played a great OF for us, and was definitely a candidate for team MVP. Stay tuned because J Supes and his brother K Supes will be on The Sports Report for the December 23rd episode before Christmas and the Supes brothers birthdays coming soon!
Tumblr media
#18 Kyle Supran “K Supes” – K Supes is from Plainview, NY and attended Plainview JFKHS.
Before his days at Plainview JFK, he played with myself, J Supes, Fitzmagic, and Salty on the Plainview Hawks Travel baseball team that won multiple tournaments and made a trip to Cooperstown in 2010! At Plainview JFK, he had a great career playing on the Varsity baseball team and was one of the teams captains his senior season in 2016. K Supes then continued his baseball career in college at Ursinus College for the Bears between 2017-2020 where he appeared in 23 games, was apart of the Ursinus Bears team in 2017 that made it to the Centennial Conference Championship, was a member of the Centennial Conference Academic Honor Roll in 2020, and in 2019-20 he batted .471 for the Bears before the season was cut short due to the COVID-19 pandemic. After college, he then joined the Fall 2020 ABA St. Louis Cardinals Softball Division Champion LI Brew Crew where he played in all 18 games pitching every inning for the team and putting up great numbers batting .609 with 42 hits which was 3rd on the team, 31 singles which was 2nd on the team, and he was tied for 1st in doubles with 9! K Supes was also a 2x Brew of the Week recipient this past season! K Supes was one of the teams captains with is brother Jake and his pitching and fielding all season long was great! Stay tuned because K Supes alongside his brother J Supes will be on The Sports Report for the December 23rd episode before Christmas and the Supes brothers birthdays coming soon!
#2 Jake Saltzman “Salty” – Salty is from Plainview, NY and attended Plainview JFKHS.
Before his days at Plainview JFK, he played with myself, the Supes brothers, and Fitzmagic on the Plainview Hawks Travel baseball team that won multiple tournaments and made a trip to Cooperstown in 2010! At Plainview JFK, he played on the varsity volleyball team alongside recent guest on The Sports Report Allen Durutovic on the 2014 Nassau AA Championship team and of course played on the Plainview JFK Baseball Varsity team where he earned both All-League and All-Conference honors. Salty continued after his great baseball career at Plainview JFK to attend D-2 Molloy College who produced the legendary Hicksville Comets Basketball star John Petrucelli who is playing professional basketball overseas and was also a guest on The Sports Report! Salty put up some great numbers at Molloy at the plate while playing a great OF as well! In his freshman season, he appeared in 39 games and batted .295, followed it up batting .284 appearing in 51 games for the 2018 Molloy Lions Baseball team that made it to the ECC Championship game, batted .261 his junior year, and then was batting .355 his senior season before it was cut short due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Salty primarily batted at the top of the lineup for the Lions, and he does the same for the team he joined after college in the Fall ABA St. Louis Cardinals Softball Division Champion LI Brew Crew where he played in 14 games batting .672, recorded 39 hits which was 5th on the team, 24 RBI’s which was 4th on the team, scored 26 runs which was tied for 3rd on the team, and 7 home runs which was 1st on the Brew Crew! Salty earned 2 Brew of the Week honors on the season as well! Salty is a gold-glove caliber left fielder for the Brew Crew and his .707 OBP in the lead off position in the lineup almost always led to big innings for the Brew Crew! Stay tuned because Salty is definitely a great candidate to come on The Sports Report in shortly after Guggs and the Supes brothers!
Tumblr media
#32 Bryan Safer “Big Safe” – Big Safe is from Plainview, NY and attended Plainview JFKHS.
Big Safe starred at Plainview JFK on both the varsity baseball team with the likes of Salty, the Supes brothers, Frankie, B Maloney, Galasso, and Dommo early on and the varsity basketball team with previous guests on the show Fitzy, Allen Durutovic, and of course yours truly THE BRUTE FORCE Brad Weiss. Big Safe was an essential part to each of those teams and on the special 2014-15 basketball team, Safe was definitely one of those “unsung heroes” Tom Brice referred to in our interviews with Fitzy and Allen. On the baseball field, Big Safe was the leader on the team in home runs as he smacked 5 in his junior year after being on the 2014-15 basketball team, and was definitely a big part of the Varsity baseball teams offense while being a great defensive player at 1st base! Big Safe attended UMass Amherst in Massachusetts and earned a Bachelor’s degree there and now does work with our New York Mets! After college, he decided he wanted to mash more for the Fall ABA St. Louis Cardinals Softball Division Champion LI Brew Crew where he played 12 games batting .533 with an .567 OBP, had 2 triples which was tied for 3rd on the team, 16 total hits in 30 AB’s, and had 1 home run for the Brew Crew on the season, although without some windy days I think Big Safe would have had more! Big Safe didn’t just play softball for the Brew Crew, he also played for our good friends and amazing supporters for the Long Island Sky Bison which you can follow on Instagram @liskybison! Stay tuned because Big Safe is a great candidate to come on the show to talk baseball and basketball very soon!
#24 Frankie Michells “Frank the Tank” – Frankie is from Plainview, NY and attended Plainview JFKHS.
Frankie was another 2 sport athlete at Plainview JFK as he played for both the varsity baseball and basketball teams during his time at Plainview JFK. Frankie played alongside many of the Brew’s including the Supes brothers, Salty, B Maloney, Big Safe, Dommo, and Joey Ray Bans on the baseball team and played with some Brews including Fitzy and Big Safe as well some guys mentioned on The Sports Report before including one of the strongest kids around Tom Flynn and Molly Lacrosse star Kevin Pastier amongst others on the 2016 varsity boys basketball team that made the playoffs in there senior seasons. Years later, Frankie may have found himself a career in softball as he became one of the best players on the Fall ABA St. Louis Cardinals Division Champion LI Brew Crew where he played in all 18 games, primarily playing a gold glove SS for the team, while batting .597 for the season, had 26 RBI’s which was 3rd on the team, 43 hits which was 2nd on the team, 9 doubles was tied for 1st on the team, and 33 singles which was 1st on the team. Frankie was also a 2x Brew of the Week recipient in the first week and last week of the regular season. Frankie shouldn’t only be a nominee for team MVP, but also one of the funniest guys on the team, whose also got a cannon of an arm throwing from SS to 1B where I almost lost feeling in my hand when catching those baseballs over at 1st base. Stay tuned because Frankie is an amazing candidate to come on The Sports Report in the near future!
Tumblr media
#14 Dom Palumbo “Dommo” – Dommo is from Plainview, NY and attended Plainview JFKHS.
Before his days at Plainview JFK, me and Dom played alongside each other on the Plainview Little League field where we won the 2009 Plainview Little League championship at the Plainview Pool Field with the Blue Thunder coached my dad Joel Weiss aka “THE SUPER FORCE”. Yours truly THE BRUTE FORCE hit a go-ahead home run to help us win that game and after 2009 I repeated as a Plainview Little League Champion in 2010. Now at Plainview JFK High School in 2012, me and Dom reunited on the Plainview JFK Boys Varsity Basketball team for 2 seasons. While Dom was a great teammate on the court, he made his mark on the baseball field where he was one of the best players in Nassau County earning All-County honors his senior year, unanimous Nassau AA league player of the year, Plainview JFK Student Athlete of the year, as well as NYSWAA All-State baseball selection. After his amazing career at Plainview JFK, he attended Farmingdale State College, a Skyline Conference rival for me as a St. Joseph’s Long Island Golden Eagles alum, and continued his legendary baseball career. At Farmingdale State between 2014-2018, Dom had a career .294 batting average, .373 OBP, played multiple infield positions well, and made 3 appearances in the Skyline Conference championship in 2015, 2016, and 2018. In his senior season in 2018, Dom was 2nd team All-Conference in the Skyline and in Dom’s 4 years at Farmingdale State, the team had a record of 84-63. After Dommo’s great career at Plainview JFK and Farmingdale State, he didn’t want to finish there as he joined the Fall ABA St. Louis Cardinals Division Champion LI Brew Crew softball team where he earned 3 Brew of the Week honors, which was most on the team, while also earning The Sports Report host Tom Brice’s approval saying “the award should be named after Dom” on the show! Dommo’s numbers for the team showed he deserved those Brew of the Week honors on multiple occasions as he played in 12 games batting .667 which was 3rd on the team, had 30 hits which was 7th on the team, 3 walks which was tied for 2nd on the team, and 6 doubles which was tied for 3rd on the team. Dommo is clearly a team MVP candidate as he mashed for us primarily in the middle of lineup while playing a great infield for the Brew Crew! Stay tuned because Dommo with all of these accomplishments will make a great guest on The Sports Report!
#20 Joe Galasso “Joey Ray Bans” – Joey Ray Bans is from Plainview, NY and attended Plainview JFKHS.
Joey Ray Bans was a great baseball player starting as a young kid, growing up playing for the Seminoles travel baseball team, and even played a game where our New York Mets play of course at Citi Field during his time with the team! Joey Ray Bans then became apart of the Plainview JFK Varsity baseball team with the likes of Salty, the Supes brothers, Frankie, B Maloney, and Big Safe! Joe had some adversity during his time at Plainview JFK, but with his hard work and talent in the game of baseball he earned the opportunity to play college baseball for another Skyline Conference rival mine, me being a St. Joseph’s College Long Island Golden Eagles alum, for the Mount St. Mary College Knights! In his freshman season in 2017, the Knights made a run to the Skyline Conference Finals as they defeated my top seeded SJC-LI Golden Eagles in the semifinals to advance to finals. That season, I remember the disappointment from many of the guys I spoke to from that seasons baseball team from that loss, but Joey Ray Bans’s Knights pulled off the upset on May 7th, 2017. In 2018, the MSMC Knights came back with a 22-12 record, 13-5 in the Skyline Conference, but weren’t able to defeat my Golden Eagles and the USMMA Mariners in the playoffs. After a tough 2019 season, Joe and the Knights 2020 season was cut short due to the COVID-19 pandemic. At Mount St. Mary, Joe not only enjoyed success on the baseball field but was also the Vice President of the student government there and was a huge part of having some great events on the campus of Mount St. Mary! After Joey Ray Ban’s great years at Mount St. Mary, he took his talents to the softball field and joined the Fall ABA St. Louis Cardinals Division Champion LI Brew Crew where he earned a Brew of the Week honor in late September and put up some great numbers primarily towards the top of our lineup! Joey Ray Bans played in 14 games for the Brew Crew batting .644 was 5th on the team, 27 runs scored which was 2nd on the team, 38 hits which was 6th on the team, 8 doubles was tied for 2nd on the team, 3 triples was tied for 2nd on the team, and his 4 homers was 4th on the team. Joe was great for us all year getting on base with a .695 OBP frequently which was why he batted 2nd for us late in the season, and in the week he was named Brew of the Week, me and Tom both agreed he was the “savior of the week” because he batted right behind me and came through every time I failed in my early season struggles. Stay tuned because Joe’s great story, his ability as a leader, and his knowledge on all in the world of sports makes him a great candidate to come on The Sports Report very soon!
Tumblr media
#77 John Fitzgerald “Fitz” – Fitz is from Wantagh, NY and attended Wantagh HS.
Starting at Wantagh HS, Fitz had a journey in high school that no other member of the Brew Crew had. In 2016, the Wantagh Warriors Varsity Baseball Team not only won a Nassau County Class A championship, but they won the New York State Class A baseball championship! Wantagh captured there 1st Class A New York State championship since 1998! The Warriors finished that season 25-5 in which Fitz played a big part of this but it wouldn’t be his last championship in his career. After graduating Wantagh high school, John went to play his college baseball at SUNY Purchase, a rival in the Skyline Conference to me of course the St. Joseph’s College Long Island Alumni, for his freshman season. In his freshman season at Purchase, Fitz was great both on the mound and at the plate pitching to a 2.70 ERA in 2017 and hit .338 for the Purchase Panthers. After the 2017 season at Purchase, he transferred in 2018 to Queensborough Community College 2018. In 2018, Queensborough College Tigers went 22-12 and advanced to the 2018 CUNYAC/MCU Community College championship which took place at MCU Park in Brooklyn. After being down 4-0 late in the game, Queensborough came back to win in extra innings to capture the CUNYAC championship title for the 16th time in there history. The go-ahead hit in extra innings came from John Fitzgerald, who was the CUNYAC championship game MVP! After the 2018 season at Queensborough, John returned back to Purchase where he finished his final 2 seasons with some more big numbers! In 2019, Fitz batted .345 for the Panthers, with a .448 slugging percentage, while also dominated on the mound with a 4-1 record and a 2.28 ERA. At the end of that season, Fitz earned All-Skyline Conference 2nd team and was also a Skyline pitcher of the Week in March of 2019. Like many other of the Brews, the 2020 season for Fitz and the Purchase Panthers was cut short due to the COVID-19 pandemic. After Fitz’s amazing high school and college careers, he wanted to continue to mash at the plate when he joined the Fall ABA St. Louis Cardinals Division Champion LI Brew Crew where he earned a Brew of the Week honor in Week 1 of the season and overall was a big part of the teams success! John was able to play 6 games for the Brew Crew this past season batting .412 in those games and hit 2 home runs in 6 games, which was tied for 5th on the team for the season. Fitz the essential piece to the partnership with Ridgewood Station Tavern of Wantagh, since John is from Wantagh and has a great relationship with one of the best places to go watch a game, get a drink, and a good bite to eat! Each and every week on The Sports Report when we talk LI Brew Crew softball, we make sure to recognize Ridgewood Station Tavern for there awesome partnership with the team and we look forward to teaming up with them going forward! Stay tuned because with all of this success Fitz has had both on and off the field, he is tremendous candidate to come on The Sports Report in the near future!
#21 Brian Maloney “B-Maloney” – Brian is from Plainview, NY and attended Plainview JFKHS.
Before high school, me and Brian played together on the Plainview Pythons alongside Fitzmagic as well before we crossed paths in the Plainview Little League. Brian was a tremendous player on the diamond, but also on the volleyball court in which he played both sports on the Plainview JFK varsity teams. In Volleyball, Brian played alongside recent guest on The Sports Report Allen Durutovic! They won the Nassau AA championship together in 2014, and Brian was a big part of that team along with another member of the team who is on the LI Brew Crew in Salty! On the baseball field, Brian also played alongside Salty as well as other Brew Crew teammates including the Supes brothers, Joey Ray Bans, Frankie, Big Safe, and Dommo. Brian was a tremendous player for the Plainview Varsity Team earning an All-League honor during his time and having a season where he batted .410 with 21 RBI’s while playing a solid SS for the team during his career. After high school, Brian attended the University of Florida where he enjoyed a great college education and some great weather down in Florida! After college, Brian decided to get back to having the bat in his hands and swinging for the Fall ABA St. Louis Cardinals Division Champion LI Brew Crew where he played in 10 games batted .559 for the LI Brew Crew, recorded 19 hits, scored 11 runs, and also had a home run for the team! Wherever Brian was asked to play in the field, he was solid wherever he was asked to play! Stay tuned because B-Maloney is definitely a great candidate to join me and Tom on The Sports Report in the future!
Tumblr media
#25 Nick Conti “Conti” – Conti is from Plainview, NY and attended Plainview JFKHS.
Conti was a tremendous athlete at Plainview JFK on the football field and the lacrosse field. Conti played on the varsity football team alongside Fitzmagic from the LI Brew Crew amongst others including Molloy Lacrosse legend, another one of my teammates on the 2014-15 Plainview JFK varsity basketball team, and another possible guest for The Sports Report down the road in Kevin Pastier! Nick was a tremendous football player, but his #1 sport was clearly Lacrosse! Nick played competitively on travel Lacrosse teams growing up and became an elite player for the Plainview JFK Hawks varsity team. Even through adversity and an injury, Nick performed well on the field earning him the opportunity to play in college for the LIU Post Pioneers at the time. Even though Nick was a football and lacrosse star, he has a passion for many other sports including soccer is very imminent as he has traveled the world and is a big Arsenal FC fan! Nick has persued a degree in Journalism at Farmingdale State College! Similar to my story where I didn’t play baseball for almost a decade, Conti had a similar story and still decided to join the great Fall ABA St. Louis Cardinals Division Champion LI Brew Crew softball team! Conti appeared in 16 games for the LI Brew Crew batting an even .500 for the team, recorded 24 hits for the team, 16 singles, 3 triples which was tied for 2nd on the team, and had 2 home runs as well! Conti is a tremendous teammate on the LI Brew Crew, and I know he would be a great guest on The Sports Report in the future!
#13 Nick Sciortino “Nicky Sciors” - Nicky Sciors is from Hicksville, NY and attended Chaminade High School in Mineola, NY.
Growing up, Nick played summer baseball with the Supes brothers for the LI Whalers organization. At Chaminade High School, Nick played for the Flyers varsity baseball team and even played some basketball in his early years at the school! Nick started many games during his time for the Chaminade varsity baseball team in the outfield, where he was stellar both for Chaminade and eventually the LI Brew Crew. After graduating Chaminade HS in 2016, Nick attended Fairfield University where he played club baseball and persued a degree with a great education from Fairfield! After college, Nick came back to swinging the bat and playing on the diamond for the Fall ABA St. Louis Cardinals Division Champion LI Brew Crew softball team where he played in 6 games batting at a .714 clip in those games with 15 hits, 8 runs scored, 7 RBI’s, and playing a tremendous outfield for us especially in the championship series vs the Goons. Nicky Sciors is another guy I didn’t get to know until meeting him as a member of the LI Brew Crew, but he’s an awesome teammate who came to play each game he was able to make it, and he’d make a great guest on The Sports Report to talk the LI Brew Crew and all the latest in the world of sports!

#16 Yours Truly Brad Weiss “THE BRUTE FORCE” – THE BRUTE FORCE is from Plainview, NY and attended Plainview JFKHS.
In my early days, I played in the Plainview Little League with and against many of the Brews! After playing alongside the Supes brothers, Salty, and Fitzmagic on the Plainview Hawks travel baseball team that made an appearance in Cooperstown, I decided to focus on basketball going into high school at Plainview JFK. I played 3 seasons for the Plainview JFK Varsity Basketball Team earning LongIslandBasketball.com’s All-Long Island Sophomore team honors in 2012-2013 and All-Conference honors for the 2013-14 season. In 2014-15, the team made it to the playoffs for the 1st time alongside All-County players and recent Sports Report guests Brendan Fitzpatrick and Allen Durutovic as well as All-Conference player Tom Flynn and won the school’s 1st playoff game in nearly a decade vs Long Beach on Valentine’s Day in 2015. After that senior season, I took a year at Nassau Community College before attending St. Joseph’s College Long Island to play 4 years of college basketball. I started for the Golden Eagles at the big man position for 2 ½ seasons between 2016-2019 before an injury plagued 2020 senior season. In 2018-19, I was 3rd in the Skyline Conference in blocked shots, 13th in rebounds, and in the school’s history I’m towards the top of the list in blocked shots. After graduating SJC-LI in 2020, I 1st was given the opportunity to do an interview on New York’s #1 Sports Show The Sports Report! My head coach at SJC-LI Mike McSloy recommended me to be interviewed and on March 25th, 2020 I was featured on the show. After that week, the legendary host of our show Tom Brice asked if I’d be intrested in being a weekly analyst for the show, and the rest is history as me and Tom are approaching 40 episodes together! In September, I was asked by the Supes brothers to come back to swinging the baseball bat after a 9 year absence to be apart of the Fall ABA St. Louis Cardinals Division Champion LI Brew Crew softball team. I agreed to join the team which was one of the best decisions I made and played all 18 games and batted .578 for the Brew Crew, earning 1 Brew of the Week honor on my birthday weekend on October 19th, had 23 RBI’s which was tied for 5th on the team, 26 total hits, 22 singles, 1 double, 1 triple, and 2 home runs for the season! THE BRUTE FORCE started the season under the Mendoza line of .200, but recovered because of the confidence instilled to me by my great teammates! I cannot wait to be apart of many of the guys on this team in the interviews coming up on The Sports Report!

Early life[edit]
Born in Los Angeles, Walsh played running back in the San Francisco Bay Area for Hayward High School in Hayward.[1] Walsh played quarterback at the College of San Mateo for two seasons. (Both John Madden and Walsh played and coached at the College of San Mateo early in their careers.) After playing at the College of San Mateo, Walsh transferred to San José State University, where he played tight end and defensive end. He also participated in intercollegiate boxing, winning the golden glove.
Walsh graduated from San Jose State with a bachelor’s degree in physical education in 1955. After two years in the U.S. Army participating on their boxing team,[2] Walsh built a championship team at Washington High School in Fremont before becoming an assistant coach at Cal, Stanford and then the Oakland Raiders in 1966.[3]
Early coaching career[edit]
He served under Bob Bronzan as a graduate assistant coach on the Spartans football coaching staff and graduated with a master’s degree in physical education from San Jose State in 1959.[4] His master’s thesis was entitled Flank Formation Football — Stress:: Defense. Thesis 796.W228f.[5]
Following graduation, Walsh coached the football and swim teams at Washington High School in Fremont, California.
Walsh was coaching in Fremont when he interviewed for an assistant coaching position with Marv Levy, who had just been hired as the head coach at the University of California, Berkeley. “I was very impressed, individually, by his knowledge, by his intelligence, by his personality, and hired him,” Levy said. Levy and Walsh, two future NFL Hall of Famers, would never produce a winning season at Cal.
After coaching at Cal, Walsh did a stint at Stanford as an assistant coach, before beginning his pro coaching career.
Early professional coaching career[edit]
Walsh began his pro coaching career in 1966 as an assistant with the AFL’s Oakland Raiders. As a Raider assistant, Walsh was trained in the vertical passing offense favored by Al Davis, putting Walsh in Davis’s mentor Sid Gillman’s coaching tree.
In 1967 Walsh was the head coach and general manager of the San Jose Apaches of the Continental Football League (CFL). Walsh led the Apaches to 2nd place in the Pacific Division. Prior to the start of the 1968 CFL season the Apaches ceased all football operations.
In 1968, Walsh moved to the AFL expansion Cincinnati Bengals, joining the staff of legendary coach Paul Brown. It was there that Walsh developed the philosophy now known as the “West Coast Offense”, as a matter of necessity. Cincinnati’s new quarterback, Virgil Carter, was known for his great mobility and accuracy but lacked a strong arm necessary to throw deep passes. Thus, Walsh modified the vertical passing scheme he had learned during his time with the Raiders, designing a horizontal passing system that relied on quick, short throws, often spreading the ball across the entire width of the field.[6] The new offense was much better suited to Carter’s physical abilities; he led the league in pass completion percentage in 1971.
Walsh spent eight seasons as an assistant with the Bengals. Ken Anderson eventually replaced Carter as starting quarterback, and together with star wide receiver Isaac Curtis, produced a consistent, effective offensive attack. Initially, Walsh started out as the wide receivers coach from 1968 to 1970 before also coaching the quarterbacks from 1971 to 1975.
When Brown retired as head coach following the 1975 season and appointed Bill “Tiger” Johnson as his successor, Walsh resigned and served as an assistant coach for Tommy Prothro with the San Diego Chargers in 1976. In a 2006 interview,[7] Walsh claimed that during his tenure with the Bengals, Brown “worked against my candidacy” to be a head coach anywhere in the league. “All the way through I had opportunities, and I never knew about them,” Walsh said. “And then when I left him, he called whoever he thought was necessary to keep me out of the NFL.”
In 1977, Walsh was hired as the head coach at Stanford where he stayed for two seasons. His two Stanford teams were successful, posting a 9–3 record in 1977 with a win in the Sun Bowl, and 8–4 in 1978 with a win in the Bluebonnet Bowl. His notable players at Stanford included quarterbacks Guy Benjamin and Steve Dils, wide receivers James Lofton and Ken Margerum, linebacker Gordy Ceresino, in addition to running back Darrin Nelson. Walsh was the Pac-8 Conference Coach of the Year in 1977.
49ers head coach[edit]
In 1979, Walsh was hired as head coach of the San Francisco 49ers by owner Edward J. DeBartolo, Jr. The long-suffering 49ers went 2–14 in 1978, the season before Walsh’s arrival and repeated the same dismal record in his first season. But Walsh got the entire organization to buy into his philosophy and vowed to turn around a miserable situation. He also drafted quarterback Joe Montana from Notre Dame in the third round. Despite their second consecutive 2–14 record, the 49ers were playing more competitive football.
In 1980, Steve DeBerg was the starting quarterback who got San Francisco off to a 3–0 start, but after a 59–14 blowout loss to Dallas in week 6, Walsh promoted Montana to starting QB. In a Sunday game, December 7 vs. the New Orleans Saints, Montana brought the 49ers back from a 35–7 halftime deficit to win 38–35 in overtime. The 49ers improved to 6–10, but more importantly, Walsh had them making great strides and they were getting better every week.
1981 championship[edit]
In 1981, key victories were two wins each over the Los Angeles Rams and the Dallas Cowboys. The Rams were only two seasons removed from a Super Bowl appearance, and had dominated the series with the 49ers since 1967, winning 23, losing 3 and tying 1. San Francisco’s two wins over the Rams in 1981 marked the shift of dominance in favor of the 49ers that lasted until 1998 with 30 wins (including 17 consecutively) against only 6 defeats. The 49ers blew out the Cowboys in week 6 of the regular season. On Monday Night Football that week, the win was not included in the halftime highlights. Walsh felt that this was because the Cowboys were scheduled to play the Rams the next week in a Sunday night game and that showing the highlights of the 49ers’ win would potentially hurt the game’s ratings. However, Walsh used this as a motivating factor for his team, who felt they were disrespected.[8] The 49ers finished the regular season with a 13–3 record.
The 49ers faced the Cowboys again that same season in the NFC title game. The game was very close, and in the fourth quarter Walsh called a series of running plays as the 49ers marched down the field against the Cowboys’ prevent defense, which had been expecting the 49ers to mainly pass. The 49ers came from behind to win the game on Dwight Clark’s touchdown reception, known as The Catch, propelling Walsh to his first Super Bowl. Walsh would later write that the 49ers’ two wins over the Rams showed a shift of power in their division, while the wins over the Cowboys showed a shift of power in the conference.
San Francisco won its first championship a year removed from back-to-back two-win seasons. The 49ers won Super Bowl XVI, defeating the Cincinnati Bengals 26–21 in Pontiac, Michigan. Under Walsh the team rose from the cellar to the top of the NFL in just two seasons.
The 49ers won Super Bowl championships in the 1981, 1984 and 1988 seasons. Walsh served as 49ers head coach for 10 years, and during his tenure he and his coaching staff perfected the style of play known popularly as the West Coast offense.[9] Walsh was nicknamed “The Genius” for both his innovative play calling and design. Walsh would regularly script the first 10–15 offensive plays before the start of each game. In the ten years during which Walsh was the 49ers’ head coach, San Francisco scored 3,714 points (24.4 per game), the most of any team in the league during that span.[10]
In addition to Joe Montana, Walsh drafted Ronnie Lott, Charles Haley, and Jerry Rice. He also traded a 2nd and 4th round pick in the 1987 draft for Steve Young. His success with the 49ers was rewarded with his election to the Pro Football Hall of Fame in 1993. Montana, Lott, Haley, Rice and Young were also elected to the Hall of Fame.
Coaching tree[edit]
Prominent assistant coaches[edit]
Many of Bill Walsh’s assistant coaches went on to be head coaches themselves, including George Seifert, Mike Holmgren, Ray Rhodes, and Dennis Green. After Walsh’s retirement from the 49ers, Seifert succeeded him as 49ers head coach, and guided San Francisco to victories in Super Bowl XXIV and Super Bowl XXIX. Holmgren won a Super Bowl with the Green Bay Packers, and made 3 Super Bowl appearances as a head coach: 2 with the Packers, and another with the Seattle Seahawks. These coaches in turn have their own disciples who have used Walsh’s West Coast system, such as former Denver Broncos head coach Mike Shanahan and former Houston Texans head coach Gary Kubiak. Mike Shanahan was an offensive coordinator under George Seifert and went on to win Super Bowl XXXII and Super Bowl XXXIII during his time as head coach of the Denver Broncos. Kubiak was first a quarterback coach with the 49ers, and then offensive coordinator for Shanahan with the Broncos. In 2015, he became the Broncos’ head coach and led Denver to victory in Super Bowl 50. Dennis Green trained Tony Dungy, who won a Super Bowl with the Indianapolis Colts, and Brian Billick with his brother-in law and linebackers coach Mike Smith. Billick won a Super Bowl as head coach of the Baltimore Ravens.
Mike Holmgren trained many of his assistants to become head coaches, including Jon Gruden and Andy Reid. Gruden won a Super Bowl with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. Reid served as head coach of the Philadelphia Eagles from 1999–2012, and guided the Eagles to multiple winning seasons and numerous playoff appearances. Ever since 2013, Reid has served as head coach of the Kansas City Chiefs. He was finally able to win a Super Bowl, when his Chiefs defeated the San Francisco 49ers in Super Bowl LIV. In addition to this, Marc Trestman, former head coach of the Chicago Bears, served as Offensive Coordinator under Seifert in the 90’s. Gruden himself would train Mike Tomlin, who led the Pittsburgh Steelers to their sixth Super Bowl championship, and Jim Harbaugh, whose 49ers would face his brother, John Harbaugh, whom Reid himself trained, and the Baltimore Ravens at Super Bowl XLVII, which marked the Ravens’ second World Championship.
Bill Walsh was viewed as a strong advocate for African-American head coaches in the NFL and NCAA.[11] Thus, the impact of Walsh also changed the NFL into an equal opportunity for African-American coaches. Along with Ray Rhodes and Dennis Green, Tyrone Willingham became the head coach at Stanford, then later Notre Dame and Washington. One of Mike Shanahan’s assistants, Karl Dorrell, went on to be the head coach at UCLA. Walsh directly helped propel Dennis Green into the NFL head coaching ranks by offering to take on the head coaching job at Stanford.
Bill Walsh coaching tree[edit]
Many former and current NFL head coaches trace their lineage back to Bill Walsh on his coaching tree, shown below.[12] Walsh, in turn, belonged to the coaching tree of American Football League great and Hall of Fame coach Sid Gillman of the AFL’s Los Angeles/San Diego Chargers and Hall of Fame coach Paul Brown.
Later career[edit]
After leaving the coaching ranks immediately following his team’s victory in Super Bowl XXIII, Walsh went to work as a broadcaster for NBC, teaming with Dick Enberg to form the lead broadcasting team, replacing Merlin Olsen.
During his time with NBC, rumors began to surface that Walsh would coach again in the NFL. There were at least two known instances.
First, according to a February 2015 article by Mike Florio of NBC Sports, after a 5–11 season in 1989, the Patriots fired Raymond Berry and unsuccessfully attempted to lure Walsh to Foxborough to become head coach and general manager. When that failed, New England promoted defensive coordinator Rod Rust; the team split its first two games and then lost 14 straight in 1990.[13]
Second, late in the 1990 season, Walsh was rumored to become Tampa Bay’s next head coach and general manager after the team fired Ray Perkins and promoted Richard Williamson on an interim basis. Part of the speculation was fueled by the fact that Walsh’s contract with NBC, which ran for 1989 and 1990, would soon be up for renewal, to say nothing of the pressure Hugh Culverhouse faced to increase fan support and to fill the seats at Tampa Stadium. However, less than a week after Super Bowl XXV, Walsh not only declined Tampa Bay’s offer, but he and NBC agreed on a contract extension. Walsh would continue in his role with NBC for 1991.[14] Meanwhile, after unsuccessfully courting then-recently fired Eagles coach Buddy Ryan or Giants then-defensive coordinator Bill Belichick to man the sidelines for Tampa Bay in 1991, the Bucs stuck with Williamson. Under Williamson’s leadership, Tampa Bay won only three games in 1991.
Walsh did return to Stanford as head coach in 1992, leading the Cardinal to a 10–3 record and a Pacific-10 Conference co-championship. Stanford finished the season with an upset victory over Penn State in the Blockbuster Bowl on January 1, 1993 and a #9 ranking in the final AP Poll. In 1994, after consecutive losing seasons, Walsh left Stanford and retired from coaching.
In 1996 Walsh returned to the 49ers as an administrative aide [15] Walsh was the Vice President and General Manager for the 49ers from 1999 to 2001 and was a special consultant to the team for three years afterwards.
In 2004, Walsh was appointed as special assistant to the athletic director at Stanford. In 2005, after then-athletic director Ted Leland stepped down, Walsh was named interim athletic director. He also acted as a consultant for his alma mater San Jose State University in their search for an Athletic Director and Head Football Coach in 2005.
Walsh was also the author of three books, a motivational speaker, and taught classes at the Stanford Graduate School of Business.
Walsh was a Board Member for the Lott IMPACT Trophy, which is named after Pro Football Hall of Fame defensive back Ronnie Lott, and is awarded annually to college football’s Defensive IMPACT Player of the Year. Walsh served as a keynote speaker at the award’s banquet.[16]
Awards and Honors[edit]
1989 – Golden Plate Award of the American Academy of Achievement[17]
1993 – Pro Football Hall of Fame[18]
1998 – San Jose State Hall of Fame and the SJSU Tower Award, the highest award given by SJSU[19]
Death[edit]
Bill Walsh died of leukemia on July 30, 2007 at his home in Woodside, California.[1]
Following Walsh’s death, the playing field at the former Candlestick Park was renamed “Bill Walsh Field”.[20] Additionally, the regular San Jose State versus Stanford football game was renamed the “Bill Walsh Legacy Game”.[21]
Family[edit]
Walsh is survived by his wife Geri, his son Craig and his daughter Elizabeth. Walsh had another son, Steve, who died in 2002.

Coaching stats at PFRPro Football Hall of Fame
William Ernest Walsh (November 30, 1931 – July 30, 2007) was an American professional and college football coach. He served as head coach of the San Francisco 49ers and the Stanford Cardinal, during which time he popularized the West Coast offense. After retiring from the 49ers, Walsh worked as a sports broadcaster for several years and then returned as head coach at Stanford for three seasons.
Walsh went 102–63–1 (wins-losses-ties) with the 49ers, winning 10 of his 14 postseason games along with six division titles, three NFC Championship titles, and three Super Bowls. He was named NFL Coach of the Year in 1981 and 1984. In 1993, he was elected to the Pro Football Hall of Fame.

See Recommendations Of Folks who Did Or Will Do The Examination Of Get And Really know what The Aspiring Attorneys Believe During the Country
Students and law graduates are dissatisfied when using the Evaluation of Order, evidence for the Brazilian Bar Association (OAB), which grants to individuals permitted the mandatory registration to the follow of law. The controversial factors encompassing the selection use.   To shut the sequence, observe testimonies that kind a mosaic for the distinct profiles of scholars and bachelors in Legislation of Brazil. On the whole, they are really significant for the test. Ambiguous problems, lack of transparency inside the method, subjective conditions inside the correction, minimal time for resolution and pricy registration cost are some of your details elevated.   Despite the fact that acknowledging the importance of some type of prior variety for foreseeable future legal professionals, the exaggerated diploma of issue from the proof is often a recurring notion, even between folks who have already been authorized and defended. This great degree of need adds towards the anguish to enter the labor sector and spouse and children tension to your factors which make the path with the career more difficult.
To look at extra drop by curso preparatorio oab   See stories and what learners and law students think:   Norma Desireé Barbosa Fortini, 27, celebrates graduation with her partner, but can not get an OAB   I have a legislation degree from PUC-RS, but I give good results being a consultant at Natura I did the OAB exam 4 instances, but I didn't endure into the next period very nearly. Missed two or 3 hits. It is actually hard to have a task only by using a degree, due to the fact they need the lawyer's or trainee's license. Even a law graduate from PUC-RS, I work for a consultant for Natura, earning R$ 500. The industry could be very saturated in Porto Alegre and has places of work that pay back lower than a least salary. With just about every disapproval we wear out and lessen our self-esteem. I uncover myself a dumb man or woman, but I am not, considering that I did 5 years of excellent university, graduation function and defense with banking. Like a stockbroker, he needed to carry out nicely. I concluded the PUC-RS shelling out R$ 1,250 month to month (without any a scholarship could well be R$ 2,five hundred). I've ability, I am aware the content, though the issues within the check can be quite superb. They make an evaluation to pass as very few most people as feasible. It's in the degree of a general public contest, when it should really only attest that you have the opportunity to advocate. Isn't going to quit. I want a general public defender, general public prosecutor, I need to be a choose. This can be my desire and that i will get there. But for this I want to advocate for at least two a long time. I bought pregnant on the previous yr of college and now I've a little daughter to lift. I want to concentration on my scientific studies to go this blessed test, but you'll find it challenging to aim on lacking diapers for your personal daughter. " Norma Desireé Barbosa Fortini, 27 ages outdated, retains a bachelor's degree in Regulation, graduated in 2009 from PUC-RS   The OAB portfolio isn't any assure that you just could make funds   "I am retired, former metalworker and at present I perform as serious estate broker. I decided to try and do Regulation mainly because I preferred to possess a better stage. The program assists me in my latest career, on the documentation element, to explain the civil vicinity for your clients. I have to do the subsequent OAB exam, which is certainly open, but I don't concur aided by the exam. They would like to appraise my 5 years of faculty in two tests. I've considerably better financial disorders than numerous classmates, but I discover the amount abusive. For me the examination is nickel-hunter and isn't going to aid us by any means. The low level of acceptance of Uniban is not going to concern me. In this particular past problem, I mastered that 4 in the one hundred learners in my course have passed. I feel most of the people really do not just want to become a attorney. Everybody knows the OAB portfolio isn't any make sure that it's going to generate profits. "   Immediately after 3 failed tries to get the Order's history, Rafael Alencastro Moll, 25, is executing course.   “I've been inside business for 4 a long time and experienced a little something over the test I've under no circumstances spotted. I have labored in a law firm since I up and running school. I read almost everyone say it was tricky, even so it was only after i started to go ahead and take tests which i understood how troublesome they truly had been. I've experimented with 3 occasions. In all, I appear close, but I usually do not access the grade to maneuver into the 2nd stage. There is certainly lots within the examination that we don't see in school suitable, they're acquiring lots of data that we don't essentially use in observe. I've been with the business four years in the past and there was a specific thing there that i never observed. I had not achieved university, but now I am undertaking it. It truly is aiding a great deal. I feel the Test of Order is very important to give a particular a person, there are actually many individuals unprepared for there. There can be countless colleges that are not truly serious. The test will need to consider the candidate, but I think they are simply executing over that, practically a contest. "
To know extra particulars see curso para passar na oab     I studied at Unip and handed first   "I graduated final 12 months and passed the main attempt within the OAB exam. I used to be blessed and that i could also depend on the relatives. My father and mother are lawyers, I interned inside their places of work, and i had the guidance to always be in a position to devote myself wholly to my experiments. I do think other occupations relevant to your general public curiosity, similar to Engineering and Drugs, should have an OAB assessment. The exam fees quite a bit of decoreba on the legislation and will require a small a lot more authorized analysis. My faculty does not have an outstanding passing fee, nonetheless it has very good teachers, superior actual physical structure, an equipped library, and i had entry to the many textbooks I required to publish my monograph. "   In my working day, it absolutely was not required to take a split. At this time, the examination is a lot more problematic.   "I took the OAB examination once I finished university, and that i handed first. I took the first examination of Cespe (Middle for Selection and Promotion of Activities, in charge of the analysis until such time as 2009), which was organized by Vunesp, on account of the annulment of examination 134. The examination consists precisely in what you do not understand in college or university, much less in São Francisco (Law-USP), whose concentrate is the humanistic formation for the jurist. The understanding of your dogmatic matters, for reasons of general public examinations and use inside expert career, is fruit of the application belonging to the university student, and constantly can be. USP sorts jurists with free of charge, unbiased thinking. Relating to the other hand, the drawback of San Francisco would be the not enough didactics of some instructors, who will not transmit primary expertise of the topics, inspite of currently being excellent pros. In my day, it absolutely was not important to have a split. Currently, I think the test is more troublesome, demanding more certain experience. The evaluation needs to be taken care of given that, within the authorized viewpoint, there is certainly no offense from the Constitution. From the useful standpoint, the assessment helps prevent semi-literates from moving into a profession wherein writing skillsets and common practical knowledge of regulation are essential. And through examination these requirements will be confirmed. It is far from like in drugs, in which the qualified has handed a evidence of residence. A bachelors degree in legislation truly has to be examined just before being able to observe legislation. " Riccardo Napoli, 26, an attorney graduated through the College of São Paulo (USP) in 2007. João Paulo Gonçalvez did a two-year class and passed the next endeavor relating to the OAB   The evidence must exist, however it must be fair.   "I even now tend not to know if I am gonna be a lawyer, as a result of I at all times wished to get a delegate." When I graduated, I took an interest in regulation observe, and that i made a decision to provide the Examination as a result of I feel it would get a great deal more plus more troublesome. nevertheless it ought to be truthful.I think which the correction in the second section tests, which is subjective, is ambiguous. The assessments are troublesome, they can be no longer middleman. One can find lots of bad schools as well as state should consider responsibility, to evaluate far more also to advance their degree to stop people today from investing five years learning and then not with the ability to enter the occupation.Though the evidence in the Get must exist yes, I think even all professions ought to have a similar examination.I went to the second endeavor.I double-takeed and i imagine which was significant to direct my experiments for the check, however it is to paint necessary topics even because the courses are superficial. For me, the person's state of mind on the working day belonging to the examination also counts m The next time I took the exam, I was pretty tranquil, I had been able to consider much better and did all the things. "   I do the entire procedure, I just don't indication   "I completed the Regulation program in 2008 and also have presently supplied the Order Examination three times, but I had been not approved. I belonged to the group defending the exam, but after i experienced access on the excellent viewpoint on the Deputy Attorney Common Rodrigo Janot Monteiro de Barros, who asked for his unconstitutionality, I confess which i changed my head (the view was despatched towards Federal Supreme Court, which evaluation this year). In my very last exam, the OAB demanded during the next stage a little something that even the judiciary doesn't call for in the attorneys, the authorized foundation citation (the article of law) to instruct the solutions on the expert apply exam. I lost 2.eight details on account of that inside a race worthy of 10 factors. I'm wholly certain which i am in good shape and in a position to defend another person. I do the full method, I just don't indication. A further colleague symptoms. The OAB has heightened the degree of problem somewhat than the time for resolution. I used four several hours accomplishing just the piece and still had the essay thoughts with letters a, b, c. In exercise, the law firm has at the very least five days to generate a chunk. I comprehend which the much more you review, the greater you question by yourself and wonder. And it is a whole lot of 'banana peel' they set you to definitely slip. As well very much ambiguity, two-way problems. You can get diverse points of view in law therefore you do not know which inspecting lender to use. I am speaking with our colleagues: we are not finding out to work at NASA. "

In my past examination, the OAB demanded during the 2nd section an item that even the judiciary will not will need on the lawyers, the legal basis citation (the posting of legislation) to instruct the answers towards pro practice examination. I misplaced 2.eight points on account of that inside of a race worthy of 10 factors. I am absolutely confident that i am fit and ready to protect a person. I do the complete method, I just tend not to signal. An additional colleague symptoms. The OAB has increased the diploma of problems quite as opposed to time for resolution. I spent 4 several hours doing just the piece and still experienced the essay queries with letters a, b, c. In exercise, the lawyer has at the very least five days to produce a bit. I notice which the even more you review, the more you concern yourself and wonder. And it is a whole lot of 'banana peel' they place you to definitely slip. Too a whole lot ambiguity, two-way troubles. You'll find distinctive points of watch in legislation and you really don't know which inspecting financial institution to comply with.
