it has been years but I would still recommend shinsekai yori. I still think about it from time to time
#mine musings#i also think it's good to watch alongside psycho pass#but that's bc that's how i watched them#it's like if someone says read 1984 then contrast that with brave new world#in this case psycho pass is the 1984 and ssy (also known as from the new world) is the brave new world#but replace bny's orgy-porgy's and hedonism with cantus (magic) and reliance on forced empathy#hyper-empathy? like it's a whole thing it sounds good on paper but it backfires later on#DO NOT read the manga though#anime > book only. never the manga#the book is fine there's a translation online but honestly the anime will suffice#i tries reading the novel and you'll only miss out on some optional worldbuilding
