She couldn't help but grumbled uncharacteristically as she started moving the paddles once more. They were clearly not going to win the race, but if he was going to taunt her with information about her ex-wife, they might as well row while he did it. "You know that's rude," Sage pointed out with a huff, though the noise was filled more with amusement than not and she even accented it with a teasing eyeroll. Of course he wasn't going to give up any information on what Giada may have told him. Even if he did claim he was equally their friend, he was hers first.
She thought about joking that technically giving birth to his biological child should earn her a little more leeway with secrets, but the last thing she wanted to do was to add talking about Ruby into the conversation. She was barely holding it together with Gia being in town as it was. "I'm sure she would have found you eventually. She didn't even mean to run into me the second time, it just... happened. She showed up at the bar, had no clue I owned it, let alone worked there. I guess it was a surprise considering the job I had when she left." Or the job she didn't have, considering Sage had simply stopped showing up to work and eventually handed in her resignation for the job she'd done for over a decade. "She showed up at the house before that. Seemed surprised to see me. And I guess... Maggie, by extension. She looks so much like her, I think I'd be thrown off too. It took me months to get over it."

the last thing that floyd meant to do was cause tension in their conversation but he assumed that it was something sage would eventually bring up. after all, he was friends with both of them and he wasn't surprised that something had happened between the two of them. he knew what kind of chemistry the two of them had. "yeah, it was one of the first things she told me, actually. i'm beginning to wonder if that's why she came to find me. i didn't even know she was back in town until then." pausing, he shook his head. "come on. we both know there's no way i'm getting in between the two of you guys. i can't tell you what she said, just like i wouldn't tell her what you said. that isn't fair."

Any lightness in the moment had sunk deep down in the lake by the time he mentioned knowing about her and Giada's... moment. She was glad they'd already stopped paddling or she may have successfully tipped them in surprise at the news (though, she wondered if she should have been so surprised, considering the two were best friends after all). "You... know about that." Her brow was raised and her lips had opened and closed a few times, making her look like quite the fish out of water, before she finally uttered those words. Suddenly, the kayaks out in the water behind Floyd were far more interesting to her than meeting the man's gaze. Man, she wished she would have remembered to pack sunglasses. "What, uh... what did she say about it exactly?"
@floydparker
"hey, what the hell? you're not supposed to agree!" though, it was no surprise that she thought her daughter was cuter. he did too. maggie held a special place in his heart, just as ruby had and he was thankful that sage allowed her to be a part of her life just as she had with her other daughter. "yeah, she is. i'm sure she's in a hell of a lot better shape than her old uncle floyd but that's alright. she's supposed to be." he had a bad habit of not taking care of himself and anyone close to him knew that but he tried not to address it. in fact, he avoided the conversation more times than not. "a boat? you can count me in. i'm there one hundred percent. " he wasn't sure he'd ever befriended anyone that had a boat and so he felt pretty honored to have been invited. as the conversation shifted, he nodded in confirmation to her question. "actually, yeah. she stopped by the record store the other day. told me about y'all's rendezvous."

"Okay, you're a little right about the cuter part," Sage couldn't help but tease, just as she teased him all those years before about being thankful that Ruby seemed to pick up every bit of the Franklin genes and hadn't had the misfortune to look anything like the man in front of her. Now, that particular joke was nothing but an aching memory in the pit of her chest. "She's growing like a weed, though. It's crazy. I'm sure she'll be able to out paddle you by next year for sure." Almost three years had gone by since the tiny blonde was born and Sage knew that next came four, then five, and then... It seemed like a long way off, even though it was right around the corner. "I have a friend who has a boat, you'll have to come out with us this summer." There tended to be lots of swimming involved, but she was sure the other figured that was a given on a large boat in Summit Lake. What caught her off guard, though, was his mention of Gia, her cheeks immediately burning at the memory of what they'd done the last time she saw the woman. "Oh, uh, yeah... turns out she's back in town. Did you know?"
@floydparker
floyd laughed, "good." he figured the other knew him well enough to know how out of shape he was. "hey, maggie was probably a hell of a lot more help and she's a lot cuter to look at." he joked. he liked being an uncle and he was thankful that he was able to be one all over again, especially after the accident. as she mentioned the fact that he needed to budget for two kayaks, he furrowed his brow. "two?! do you really think that i'm going to come with you again? once we finish this, the only think i'll be doing in this lake from here on out is swimming. which, by the way, is a lot more fun." he pointed out. "unless, i'm not the one you wanted the other kayak for? speaking of, i ran into gia the other day...." and he wanted to gauge how sage was feeling after their hook up. "i can stay awake a little longer but i definitely deserve a slushie after this."

Sage couldn't help but chuckle at his complaints and with a shake of her head, replied, "I think I've stopped thinking I'm going to win a long time ago. Last year I brought Maggie and let me say, if you think you're not helpful, you can only imagine how that went. At least you have two regular sized arms and normal human strength." The tiny blonde toddler had been more of a passenger the previous year, deciding to prioritize a fun moment spent with her daughter and introduce her to the world of water sports instead of hoping to win anything... though two personalized kayaks did sound like a decent prize. "I guess you'll just have to budget for two new kayaks to make up for it," the older blonde teased as she paused her rowing, letting the boat flow with the tiny waves of water instead. "Do we need to dock for your naptime?"

floyd was definitely out of shape and how he managed to end up tagging along with sage for the boat race was still a mystery to him. "come on, you didn't seriously think we were going to win this thing, did you? if you did, you must've had high expectations when it comes to my ability to paddle." he probably could've done better had he not been drinking the night before but that was poor planning on his part. "look, not to be a whiner, but i need a break. i think my arms are going to fall off."
