     " d’you miss it? home, that is. what you had before the order. ” sayuri’s voice is surprisingly soft, though it lacks the wistfulness her words might suggest. she misses the bakery, mrs. sauveterre, and alex’s brothers. she even misses sharing alex’s tiny bed, but sayuri doesn’t dare allow herself to long for any of it. it would be foolish to when she knows they can’t go back now.

     still, a tiny part hopes a visit won’t be out of the question one day.
