Blue is the Eye has been on repeat in my house since the album came out. So dreamy. There's something ancient about the Gloinn brothers' voices that melts my brain.
And omg someone who also likes Offa Rex! I was obsessed with The Decemberists in college (still am, just less fervently) and I think the stuff Colin Meloy wrote/arranged with Olivia Chaney for Offa Rex is some of the best he's ever recorded. I want The Old Churchyard to be played at my funeral and I'm not even remotely religious lol.
waitttt not me losing this ask for almost a year ASKJDFH
IM SO SORRY FOR THAT but i still love these musicians just as much as i did when you sent this and i'm so glad someone else loves them just as much. I KNOWW offa rex is my roman empire tbh it's practically a no-skip album and same about the old churchyard. no pagan has ever sung along to the words "and i fear not to enter the dark lonely tomb where our saviour has lain and has conquered the gloom" as passionately as i do ToT my personal favourite off the album is sheepcrook and black dog like something just happens in my brain when olivia chaney sings "tomorrow we'll be married, love, tomorrow is the day" that needs to be studied. AND offa rex lead to me getting into the decemberists bc i somehow had not before (tbh i was too young when they were really really popular lol)!!
and and ye vagabonds collab with phoebe bridgers + boygenius for the parting glass recently???? fucking haunting. beautiful. other highlights from nine waves are her mantle so green (because i saw a live perfomance of this on youtube in like 2020 and had been waiting for the studio version ever since), go away and come back hither, and máire bhán. like, woof. those fucking guys.
