im gonna go on a rant in a sec. I'll try to cycle back and edit the top here to cw the post but if it takes too long and I forget or end up missing some im sorry

so a friend of mine just got outed to her ultra religious parents by her fucking shitty ex. it really fucking sucks and I so badly want to [redacted] the dude who did it. It especially sucks because like, I befriended this gal maybe a year into transition and she was still closeted/figuring stuff out at the time but would ask me some stuff about transition and I was happy to help. My first "baby trans" of being a woman who was out.

anyways her boyfriend seemed okay on twitter, tbh was always a bit annoying but then again who am I to judge. Our interactions were alright and it was just neat having some moots. Then twitter shat the bed and I made a lil friend server on discord for people I liked. I ended up sending a invite to both cuz they expressed interest and unfortunately the annoying vibes from boyf were correct. Dude would ping her in the server to get him to respond to their dms and say a buncha yikes things. I think he even mentioned being republican or smth which wasnt a hit in the "leftist tranny" discord server. Mostly he made peeps uncomfy but I was hesitant to give the boot to him because of his connection to someone I liked.

Then there was one point where I was in vc with him and baby trans messaged me saying "hey be careful with what you say around him" and then sent me a screenshot after he ended up going on a tirade against her for expressing interest in piercing her nipples at some point

at this point, i basically just stopped interacting with the dude in the server. I very much wanted to kick him, both from the server and irl but I was worried about escalating things and putting my friend in danger so I kinda just bit my tongue. eventually they broke up and I asked whether she'd like me to kick him or not and she told me she I didnt have to if I were comfy with him. I still didnt kick cuz I was worried about retaliation but my man was on thin ice, especially because I had just settled into a new place after fleeing a controlling man so I was not pleased with him.

Anyways then I made a joke about being gay in my sapphic tranny server and he was like "Wait, you like MEN????". Honestly, I had never felt like you could hear a pin drop in a digital space before. Anyways yeah I pulled out the boot after that.

Then dude was insistent on vc'ing me to "talk about what happened" and wouldnt stop messaging me trying to set up this call rather than just explain in text. Honestly I got the vibe this was intentional, I've had too many HR meetings to really buy that shit any more. I decided to entertain him just to get him off my back but then he kept pushing me so I eventually said I'll think about it. dude kept pushing and pushing me over text for updates for the next three days where I honestly just fucking ghosted him because of other life shit. Eventually I caved and told him to give me some space because I needed it and he went off about "Do you see how thats better than no response?" and then went on to talk about how "this issue isnt that big in the first place"

At that point I just never talked to him again. I figured his beef was with me and he has no leverage so I'm safe and hopefully baby trans is safe. Anyways fast forward half a year and god damn this girl has blossomed in the presence of other folks helping her through this stuff (if you end up reading this somehow, love you girl 💗). Unfortunately she learns that shitty ex has told ppl she cheated on him and thats why they broke up (girl absolutely has been too timid to pursue anything since, this is 100% a boldfaced lie. But gosh you rly should ask alex out already). She ends up making a very calm post clearing the air about how this isnt the case and she didnt feel safe around him due to the threat of being outed (above). No @'s, no names, just a simple post.

And then her dad gets a text talking about every little thing that could be used against her, from her caffeine addiction (lmfao) to her not rly being christian and eats weed gummies. Oh and, you know, she "wants to identify as a woman and have started taking drugs for hormone replacement therapy". As an aside, the text mentions she's "been dating a man for a year now" and "have sucked a couple of dicks". but who's dick i wonder 🤔. Also she's "never liked women and is attracted to penises" if this werent so fucking awful id be laughing my ass off.

The text ends with "I'd suggest confronting [deadname] about this since they're clearly out of your control and could learn a lesson about insubordination and respect". Not rly being subtle there bud. Anyways, me and my friends have spent all fucking day making sure our gal is safe and has a place to stay and are emotionally supporting her and I'm just so fucking angry. Her entire life has been uprooted, her autonomy violated, her existence endangered because this fucking prick decided he wants to be a petty motherfucker. For the record, she has temporary housing and is safe right now, but she's going to come out of this with such deep scars.

I think the worst part is, is that he's got a lot of trans women friends/mutuals. He was practically bragging about it in my server. Other trans womrn are in danger around this man and his vindictive rage but I dont have the energy to do anything more than try being there for my friend and help her through this. I'm just angry and sad and worried and tired. I hate this man. I hate people like him. I hate the fact that he will more than likely never face any sort of consequences for ruining someone else's life. I hate that society makes him feel comfortable where he is. I fucking hate.

I'm trying so hard to not succumb to hate and become this jaded feral beast but it's just so hard. its so hard seeing everyone i care about in this fucked up world get hurt over and over and over again. It's so hard seeing all this violence and pain and choosing to fight back with love. Every time someone i love is hurt it feels like a chunk of my flesh is taken along with it. a core of my being is robbed because I need to help. i need to be there. i need to counterract the world. but its not enough and itll never be enough and ill just wear myself thinner and thinner each day until all thats left is my bones bleaching in the sun. but what else can i do? the rabid dog gets put down. i just want to be safe and help my friends be safe and i want us all to live.

I think one of the worst parts is knowing that it's within my power to hurt him back. Like, he's told me the general area where he lives in the past and it's honestly not hard to narrow details down from there if you're dedicated. I could realistically make this fucker fear for his life. But then I'd be one of those radical violent transgenders who dared to bare her teeth at the society that uses and beats and breaks and kills her kind. I have to rise past it. I have to choke this rising bile in my throat back down and be a good girl for a chance to be granted the fucking right to live. hello mi!! i’m so excited to be here (again!!) many of you know me! i’m carly. i was previously @jeonggukxmi​ last time mi was open, and thankfully, i’ve returned with him-- same exact muse, but after undergoing some pretty drastic changes since i dropped him at the end of 2017. i also have my new little baby monster, jihoon here, whom i might be even more excited for (yes, for those of you that follow me on twitter, this is [redacted])

 for those of you that don’t know me, it’s great to meet you! i hope we’ll be fast friends ;w; a little bit about my history with mi, because a bitch is emo: i actually founded this roleplay back in 2014, first edition of mi-- murder inc. we closed after about three months because none of us were cut out for adminning at the time, and then we reopened mi again with some of the same staff and a new addition sometime at the end of 2015! i was actually mod of another roleplay at the same time i did that, and eventually had to step up to admin that and could not admin two roleplays, so i stepped down in mi, i think in 2016. that’s when our current champions, bek and abbie, stepped into the arena and grew mi into a wonderful community up until august of last year, when the last iteration of mi went on hiatus. now, we’re back with a new mi, better than ever!! and words cannot express how proud i am of bek and abbie and how grateful i am that they ended up inheriting the roleplay and making this new (beautiful!! showstopping!! spectacular!) version of it. it was divine intervention tbh, i’m convinced

born and raised on the island!

he is seemingly a human emoji, very ^o^ uwu ^ ^ on the outside, but do not be fooled, the cuteness is merely (mostly) an illusion meant to manipulate

in reality, his dad was a successful businessman due in part to making deals with all of the gangs. he never pledged loyalty to one, thus acting as a middleman of sorts. to his credit, he did build up his reputation and and fortune on his own, he wasn’t born into it

jihoon’s mother always dreamed of being a chef but worked most of her life as a seamstress, not ignorant to but ultimately avoiding the crime of the island, until she married her husband. true love flowed and prevailed and she didn’t leave his ass despite his shady dealings, and instead she learned to defend herself too

about a year before jihoon was born, jihoon’s dad surprised his mom on their anniversary with a deed to a building that would be their restaurant, co-owned by both of them. they named it the crow’s nest

jihoon was born not long after, and tcn’s head chef couldn’t just abandon her post, so jihoon essentially grew up in the restaurant

this was not any ordinary restaurant, however, and quickly became a neutral hub for gang activity, including but not limited to meetings, deals, and alliances, though they always exercised a no violence policy (sometimes resorting to violence themselves to enforce this)

therefore jihoon was exposed to the gangs very early on despite his mother trying to protect him, and grew desensitized to the dark side of myeongcho very quickly

since his mother couldn’t shield him from the reality of myeongcho, his father trained him to protect himself in it. thankfully, this was not in an unhealthy way, and consisted mostly of street smarts, self defense training, how to shoot a gun, and other useful things for someone frequently dealing with gangs

he’s never really had a normal life, and hasn’t really tried to. sometimes he resents this fact, but it’s rarely-- he usually enjoys it just fine

this has had some troubling impact on his personality, including but not limited to him being manipulative as hell and a spoiled little punk, having kleptomania, having a twisted nature, fixating on people instead of developing healthy feelings for them, and having a deeply sarcastic, controlling, and broody nature underneath all of his saccharine candy floss pretense. when his uwuing fails to manipulate you, sometimes the act will drop and he he’ll get a dark glint in his eye and turn all stone-faced and start threatening you and he Can back (most of) those up

he grew up “working” at the crow’s nest from as early as he can remember, but only really officially once he became a teenager, where he was a waiter. after he turned 19, his dad promoted him to manager and fired their old one. dad is in and out these days because he’s traveling back to the mainland a lot for a potential crow’s nest expansion, so jihoon is The Man In Charge when he’s away, yes he is way too young for this, no he does not think so

he has already confirmed shot a man dead and broken a plate over a man’s head to maintain order in the past year, and i’m sure he’s done more he hasn’t told me about yet 

somehow in spite of this the crow’s nest is still a largely trusted neutral establishment, and most people that come trust the staff to also remain neutral and protect all activity remaining civil. maybe their commitment to this aids that reputation?? maybe it hurts it?? we don’t know...you decide

@gahyeonmi is his cousin, but was essentially raised as his sister after her parents passed away early in their life. their relationship is...complicated, but he cares for her

he was pretty popular in high school because it turns out acting super friendly and cute even when you aren’t gets you that. he went to myeongmoon! he played soccer, and he dated a bit but decided pretty quickly that dating wasn’t for him because he just felt Nothing on an emotional level. also discovered pretty quickly that he likes boys, though he’s still not sure if that’s entirely exclusively or just a heavy bias

he’s now going to myeongcho university, studying pre-law with no intention to actually become a lawyer, he just thinks the knowledge is useful and figures he’ll inherit the restaurant anyway, and he’s fine with this

he picked up magic tricks in middle school because he needed a hobby, and since has become pretty passionate about it, TOTALLY not because it gives him an excuse to pickpocket people, not at all. his specialty is card tricks, but he’s not limited to that, and can also break out of some handcuffs and supposedly a straight jacket though he hasn’t actually tried that yet

yes, he is a thief. he steals things from everyone and keeps what he collects on a bookshelf in the dorm he shares with @mihaknyeon. he used to keep them in a display case back when he lived with his parents, yes he is a freak

he’s not just a pickpocket, he also picks up larger scale thief missions from the crow’s nest patrons that know his skillset, and as such has a little experience with everyone under the sun (his favorite gang to work with is lynx)

It turns out that when your job is to give away money to companies with no customers and an unfinished product, a lot of people are interested in talking to you.

Being a venture capitalist is weird. Have you ever heard that investors only say yes 1% of the time? Now imagine what it’s like to live through the other 99%.

Founders ask investors for a meeting in their very first interaction. It’s jarring to get cold Twitter DMs with zero preamble or context, a paragraph (or many) about their startup, and then an ask for your time.

"Bryan, we are trying to change the fact that 90% of all [redacted] lose money. When do you have time for a meeting?"

"Wanna help us with intros to Tier 1 funds? We just got a US patent granted and want to start ASAP. Let's jump on Zoom and discuss"

"Bryan, would you be willing to look at my deck for a psychedelic clinic?"

When I stepped into a VC role, I learned quickly that there aren’t enough hours in the day to accept every meeting request and still do other necessary work and live life. I had to refine my criteria for who I want to spend time with, and then get ruthless about turning down all other requests to survive.

Some VCs try to do things that better scale, like having an application process, hosting office hours, or appearing on podcasts and panels. Others create more friction by requiring warm intros, never answering emails, and ghosting founders mid-conversation. Saying no is a big part of the job, regardless of how you manage it.

When you look at a no as a rejection, it can feel horrible. It's not easy to ask someone for time or money, especially when it might result in keeping your company alive a bit longer. It's even worse when you don't learn why your request was declined because your mind will make up stories about what might have happened.

I came up with a metaphor that helps me reframe things. I try to look at it more like the way attraction works in nature. Take bees and flowers, for example.

Bees want nectar for energy and pollen for protein. Flowers want bees to land on them, get pollen stuck on them, and then go pollinate other same-trait flowers.

Some bees are only attracted to specific flowers with yellow and purple petals. Pink flowers don't sit around feeling bad that these bees ignore them. They just wait for the bees that are a match for them.

Finding investors, co-founders, and employees is like that. It’s about finding the right relationship at the right time. There are a lot of people and a lot of opportunities out there and they won’t all be the right fit for you. But you still have to get out there and smell the flowers if you expect to make any honey. This metaphor is tired now and needs to go to bed. Sorry it didn’t work out for us to have a meeting.

After running RapidAPI for about a year and getting funded by some top tier Angels & VCs, we decided it was time for a proper institutional seed round. The market was up, our revenue was groewing wildly and our metrics were regarded as top notch for our field - with a very good room to grow.

One of the first meetings I took was with one of the top VC firms in Israel. In the first meeting they were super impressed by our work and our progress and we immediately scheduled a follow up meeting for the next day. After updating one of our angels (who made the connection), he emailed them saying:

“… This is unbelievable for an 18 years old, right?….”

I immediately got a phone called from one of their surprised partners asking if that was indeed my age. Before the next meeting he wanted to talk to my parents and ask them about me. On the meeting the day after, he actually gave me the number of a psychologist he wanted me to talk to to “assess my mental fitness to run a company” and my “level of maturity”.

Looking at the (older) founders of some of their portfolio companies I find it hard to believe that they went through the same due diligence process.
