This whole story is so frustrating because you can’t have an AU that takes away any part of the pain because it’s all so essential to plot/character development. All we can hope for is reconciliation and healing in the future.

46. Fever

Shouya had done everything wrong that could go wrong, on their first night in their new apartment together Shouko had gotten a fever which made it hard for her to sign so she had to lip read, which was also hard since she was tired and her eyes, from what he gathered were watery and hurt; So all of this was destined to be a disaster from the start.

Both of their mothers were too busy to come and help, Yuzu was on a school trip and it seemed all their friends were also “busy” as well. So he was stuck, calling off work to take care of Shouko. Not that he minded until that day they didn’t see each other much due to their schedules plus this is what couples did right?

He’s done this before anyway so how hard could it be?

Apparently really hard of Ishida Shouya or just had the worst luck in the world, and it seemed the later was truer than anything considering how his life has gone. But as he watched her sleep peacefully finally, the cooling pack on her head with water bottle under her pillow and the air purifier running despite the burnt food and how he had to run to the store for medication (and the quick trip to the hospital when he ran his bike into a telephone pole) in the rain it all seemed to settle finally as she slept.

Slowly he reached his hand out nervous still that after everything it lead to this as he took her hand holding it. Never in his life would he think him and Nishimiya Shouko would be in this situation and living together as he bent over and kissed her forehead.

Maybe he wasn’t so unlucky after all.
