My part of an art trade with @or-what-you-will
They gave me a really cool ref and requested the unmasking, I absolutely love that scene from the novel so I had a blast doing this. Ty, bud!

Kirk Knight - IIWII ALBUM REVIEW
Tumblr media
Over the years, I’ve seen Kirk Knight live a handful of times whether he’s opening for Joey Bada$$ or The Underachievers or headlining a show with fellow Pro Era member Nyck Caution on their East Coast Summer Tour for the collab album, Nyck @ Knight. Most recently, I saw Kirk Knight open for Flatbush Zombies in May on the See You In Hell Tour. He did a few unreleased tracks which ended up on this album and they got me excited for this album. He did two of the best songs on this new album, Duffle Bag and Downtime. Even though he’s been very active, Kirk doesn’t have too many solo projects out there. Before this new album came out, the only albums of his outside Pro Era compilations were Late Knight Special, his collab album with Nyck Caution, and some instrumental projects. Whereas LKS seemed like a formal introduction to Kirk Knight, IIWII seems like Kirk is trying to follow up with more songs like LKS but they aren’t as good. IIWII is an abbreviation for It Is What It Is and this album is pretty straightforward like the title suggests. It’s not bad but it does not stack up against Late Knight Special, which is really the last solo rap album he put out. LKS had variety. There was the lyrical track (Brokeland), the energetic bangers (Knight Time, I Know), the laidback song (Dead Friends), and the love song (Scorpio). IIWII has variety but the songs themselves are not as good. Until Duffle Bag, which was the fifth track, I was not interested in this album. The beats weren’t as good and the hooks weren’t well constructed. Beats are usually never a problem because Kirk is a talented producer but these beats could’ve been way better. Duffle Bag had that catchy hook and the beat was hard. Speaking of hard-hitting tracks, I have to talk about my favorite track: Run It Back (Freestyle). This song came out of nowhere and the beat is crazy. Kirk has this crazy energy in his flow that matches the excitement of the beat. After I listened to this song for the first time, I hit replay like 3 times before moving on to the next track. Downtime was a track I really liked a lot. It has the catchiest hook and he’s rapping really well on it. Kirk’s rapping on this album is fine, I have nothing to complain about when it comes to his actual rapping. My only gripes with the majority of this are hooks and beats. There are a few tracks that have replay value to me but I would take Late Knight Special over this any day.
Fav Tracks: Duffle Bag, Downtime, Run It Back (Freestyle)
