#it is so immersive. which is scary. like im reading it and truly forget that it's not actually happening in ireland rn*#which sounds sooo dumb lol. i'll go on a news website and for a moment wonder why they're not covering the protests in dublin 😭#considering the writing style i really didn't expect the reading experience to be like this#but yeah it really deserved to win the booker (<- has not read anything else from the shortlist)#how do you even write a book this good?#it is scary though. im so worried about world politics#*except also so aware that in many ways it IS happening. that while the far right were rejected at the last election they're still a threat#that violent extremists are here and they're acting now. that authoritarianism doesn't arrive one day out of nowhere. that it's journey#takes years and may sometimes be a silent one but is not invisible. that it becomes louder everyday. etc etc etc
