We have stacks of these old paperbacks that my grandpa annotated and worked from and I’m always like oh it’ll be so neat to see what the big O thought about Dubliners :) and then I can’t read his handwriting 😭

#he was an english professor and a writer and a snob (affectionate) and a really really smart and interesting guy! but like.#it’s cursive pencil from 1950. incomprehensible #he was the first in his family to go to high school. first to leave the farm really #and while he was alive (and cognitively all there) I was not at an age to really get a ton out of a lot of the books he taught #and I know my mom would love for me to have this connection with him but like 😭 grandpa O I cannot read it 😭
