2016 Writing Year In Review

(Wow this is late) I was tagged by @notbrogues so thank you for that, also since apparently there’s, like, six of us that all follow each other and for the life of me I can’t remember any other writer-blog usernames, if you’ve see this and want to do it then tag me as your sponsor (or tagger or whatever the hell it’s called)

Here goes:

Total Number of Stories Completed: I would like to say 81 - but only because I take any of the drabbles from here and also post them on ao3, so the majority of them aren’t over 2k. I have, by basis of actual fic, like five actual works, and one isn’t even posted yet (only one is done).

Total Word Count: I clock in at somewhere around 119,367 words of things actually posted, which sounds super specific but I have somewhere about 20k of things nobody has gotten to read yet.

Fandoms Written In: Kingsman, predominantly, but I have one for TVD from waaaay back that I would like to continue even if I don’t end up writing more for it, and I would also like to do some Harry Potter and Marvel stuff, as well as Doctor Who officially instead of just world-play.

Looking Back, Did You Expect To Write More Fic Than You Thought You Would This Year, Less, Or About What You’d Expected? Less, by a long shot. I’ll admit I was nervous in the beginning, posting my writing, but I got such lovely reviews that it really helped my find my footing.

What’s Your Own Favorite Story Of The Year? It’s a toss-up between Fires Beyond the Clouds and In Pursuit of Sensibility, since in both I really get to play with characterization.

Did You Take Any Writing Risks This Year? Aside from, you know, actually putting my stuff out there? Writing is always going to be a risk because you never know how people are going to respond, but I think 2016 went alright.

Do You Have Any Fanfic Or Profic Goals For The New Year? Finishing things - I have three works that will hopefully be done by this coming Wednesday (and then it will just be updates), but I have one absolutely massive work that’s only two chapters in and clocks in at over 7.7k, and I’ve planned out three parts so I would like to get it done before Golden Circle comes and beats me over the head with a Rainmaker, even if it does go off track from the film entirely. Beyond that just making sure things get finished, since most if not all of the things that turn into things are because people ask. Also, like planning? And maybe starting another longer work legitimately without going from comments.

Best Story Of The Year? I like Fires Beyond the Clouds the most personally, and I think because I play with themes and characters it’s shaping up to be some of my best work. I hope.

Most Popular Story Of The Year? Looking at my ao3 stats, it has to be School Reunions in both hits and kudos, which is nice because it’s the first one that got extended and wrapped up, and everyone seemed to like it.

Story of Mine Most Under-appreciated By The Universe, IMO: None, I don’t think, because I’m constantly getting kudos emails and the titles go back to when I first started posting. 

Most Fun Story To Write: 

Definitely School Reunions thus far, because I had a ball with the possessive-insecurities and playfulness. Unwin’s a handful, for certain.

Story With The Single Sexiest Moment:

I’ve been slipping and sliding into higher ratings, but I don’t think I’ve had an actual “sexy” moment yet (a lot of it’s been implied and preludes generally involve a lot of heated staring but it’s not there yet), although A Lesson in Decorum does feature some shenanigans in Fitting Room One - but nothing obscene.

Most Sweet Story: Mosaic of Golden Leaves I found charming and adorable, but I don’t think I have one that is a high risk of giving anyone a cavity.

“Holy Crap, That’s Wrong, Even For You!” Story: The only one I think would have to be Tell You All About It because Eggsy get’s kinda dark and is healing while also being sad, and he writes letters and is sad and it gets to the point where our poor egg gets so bad I literally bring back a dead man to tell him to stop. And that actually hurt more than the rest of it.

Story That Shifted My Own Perceptions Of The Characters: Starry Night, without a doubt. I see a lot of fic where Harry and Eggsy simply move in together right off the bat after his return, and to write something where Eggsy has his own space where he can express himself helped me put him in a different light personally.

Most Unintentionally Telling Story:

Fly, Lark, Fly as well as Are You Alright (With You, One Day I Will Be) and Starry Night are the three I would rank highest because they all deal with some stuff that I continuously work through myself (wow that got super deep and personal super quick I’m sorry to throw that at you guys?)

Hardest Story To Write:

I’m not going to bore you with copying and pasting the Unintentionally Telling answer, but yeah, those. And also, I think, Tell You All About It - THAT one got away from me, like, hella. I actually had to stop in the middle of writing it, so it was just me staring at my laptop and trying not to cry while also wondering at wtf I just put poor Unwin through.

Biggest Disappointment: I don’t think I have one in regards to 2016, but I’m already starting this year off with #regrets because I managed to procrastinate and actual, legitimate novella to the point where even if I start it right this minute it won’t be done in time :( But in regards to fandom, not a one.

Biggest Surprise: How lovely and supportive everyone is! Seriously, you’re all such wonderful people and I’m so glad whenever someone drops a comment in the tags or the comment section, and I’ve made a fair few friends as a result.

I wasn’t very happy when I was recently (before Jasper) single, but I was going through some fucked up insane shit. I wasn’t very happy in my relationship until recently either. I’m still not at times, but no ones relationship is perfect. My boyfriend can be a dick, but I also have a severe personality disorder and several other mental illnesses that affect our relationship. That’s why we go to counselling and work on learning the tools no one ever taught us, so we can actually have a healthy relationship. And oh god yea it’s been shit in the past, and I’ve vented on here because some of you actually are supportive and caring. And sometimes after a long day a few kind words make me feel a thousand times better. But!!! Most of the time now it’s good between us. We are working on bettering ourselves and supporting each other. I still go to bed alone and bawl my eyes out some nights, but I choose to do that. I push him away, that’s my fault. I’m happier than I was when I was single, but honestly every relationship has its issues and you have to keep working at it everyday.
