#having lots of thoughts about. like. the injury culture in the nhl#it’s scarily reminding me of the injury culture of the color guard at my high school (i was in marching band) where they would try#to practice and perform through injuries. one girl fucked something up so bad that she was on crutches for months and then she tried to#perform again and fucked it up so badly it’ll give her problems for the rest of her life. one of my best friends was having a weird mystery#back pain and the director made her feel bad for sitting out practice and i got SO pissed bc it literally could’ve been a SPINE ISSUE and he#was like ‘why the hell aren’t you rehearsing’#the culture has shifted a lot there in the past few years bc we went through like three bad directors all with the same shitty attitude and#finally we have a new guy and from what i’ve heard he’s been WAY better on all levels of changing the culture not just the injury part#but just in general. it’s so fucked that ‘playing through pain’ is seen as admirable. or rushing a recovery to play faster. it’s so fucked.#you have to HEAL. you have to rest and recover and LET YOUR BODY HEAL. it’s just a really fucked up culture in the nhl and i get so mad#whenever i think abt it bc i saw firsthand what a really similar culture did to the bodies of teenage girls and it was fucking terrible#hannah rambles
