I don’t have the same issue with xie lian, actually. even though it strains suspension of disbelief that he was alive for 800 years and didn’t realize he was into men, his story is very different from wwx’s and I don’t feel as strongly about the inclusion of his sexuality into his personal arc. it became relevant when it was relevant. without exaggeration, xie lian’s character arc is one of the finest executed I’ve ever seen and I wouldn’t know what to change. everything about it satisfies and makes sense, even if it’s not perfect

#his story is also a lot lighter and less tragic than wwx's #he's made his peace with almost everything by the present day #his relationship and sexuality are only positives in his life #and the only resistence he meets from people in his life are from friends who are worried his bf is evil #it's a lot goofier and a lot lower stakes than wwx and lwj #I do wish there was a little something going on with mq and fx. it would add some drama #in book 2 I mean. like I know they were sworn celibates but...#but overall I really enjoyed his dynamic w hc and his realizing his sexuality. it's fun #even if I don't like the relationship itself very much #tgcf txp
