Hibari headcanons?
1. Hibari is an oops child, later in his parents marriage. By this I mean at least a decade age difference between him and his siblings.
2. This does mean he is the youngest and spoiled, but not absurdly so. He was raised to be disciplined and maintains and enforces it. His father taught the basics of how to fight, but his mother pressed the tonfa into his hands.
3. The thing parents do when they have older children? They put them in charge of the younger ones. Hibari is fond of his parents but his siblings raised him… mostly-ish.
They probably shouldn’t have been left with an impressionable child and minimal supervision from more distant relatives. Hibari’s had his catchphrase of ‘bite to death’ longer than he’s been potty-trained.
4. He had two older siblings. The older brother that ended up abandoning Japan for the Triads and an older sister who picked up the duties that their older brother left as heir to the Hibari.
Incidentally, he completely blames Fon for ‘taking’ his older brother, bringing shame to the Hibari name and also blames Fon for his brother dying. I-pin is his cousin. He knows this, for all Fon has never said such.
5. Hibari overcompensated for the shame of his brother’s actions when that happen as a child. Add in sending him to school, the difference in environment and people… Hibari created the foundation of the disciplinary committee before he was even in double digits.
Incidentally, his older sister was delighted and found it adorable. She started to use the Hibari influence to uh, bend Namimori to her brother’s will. Because he was obviously Heir, she’s just standing in but she’s not weak. Just low-key terrifying.
Also again, she should not have been left alone with an impressionable child and minimal supervision.
6. The Hibari are the local power of Namimori; old money, old connections. You know how people say that so-and-so built/founded this town? You can say that the Hibari did that to Namimori.
Incidentally, everyone seems so surprised to learn that Hibari’s father is in charge of he local hospital. But it does explain much about how those ‘bitten to death’ have never pressed charges against Hibari and made them stick.
Hibari takes a lot after his mother and sister. To everyone’s horror except the Hibari Clan who find it cute and the Kusakabe who are mostly immune to Hibari-crazy by dent of long exposure.
7. His sister taught him how to drive, illegally when he was tall enough to reach the pedals and arranged for his ownership of his motorcycle once he passed the driving test. His mother taught him how to race, how to pursue and the limits of the bike after. Incidentally, this is when Kusakabe learned how to fly a helicopter.
Hibari doesn’t see the point in ‘stunts’ in front of a crowed, but a race? It fires up all those predator-chase-prey instincts. Hunting down prey was an excellent bonding experience, as was ‘how to get rid of corpses’ and ‘how to make unruly herbivores wish they were prey.’
8. Dino is an idiot herbivore with delusions of grandeur but he’s strong and does know what he’s talking about. Mostly.
Hibari’s proud, but he’s not so proud to ignore good advice when he recognizes it.
9. Hibari spends more time behind a desk than people think; between school work, Hibari business and the Disciplinary Committee… his relatives were so proud when he graduated with honors while being in charge of Namimori.
Everyone at school was quietly relieved when Hibari graduated… until they realized that Hibari had so much more free time now.
10. Hibari is a lot fonder of the Varia than is obvious and not because they’re a pack of carnivores.
But that helps a lot. Compared to the small animal, the herbivores and Vongola annoyance he’s supposed to be part of, a pack of carnivores at least doesn’t have to deal with herbivore nonsense
