so i'm curious: does anyone ever homebrew the Tome of Strahd a bit without making it an entire new magic item that does a billion things?
i actually really like the Tome of Strahd. not only is it a good exposition dump, but i really enjoy the fact the players having it actively changes Strahd's tactics and behaviors. it actively changes Strahd's primary goal in the immediate moment RAW and i actually quite enjoy that. if the party realizes that, it's possible to use the Tome to bait Strahd, or put it on a PC that's loaded with enchantments to tank a few blasts until Strahd realizes something is going on
my issue is it feels... hard for players to figure out? like it feels like a powerful boon but one that requires a bit of metagaming to figure out? i don't like the homebrews that basically turns the Tome into a completely new item, so i really wanted to ask: any DMs here or players that were part of a game where the Tome's utility was changed at all? and if so, how was it done???
