It's papa viking's birthday today! 🥳
So we went to see a over 100 year old norwegian veteran warship that survived service in both world wars and was saved from rust and damnation to be restored in the 1970's. This ship sure had Titanic vibes as it was built around the same time (1910's) but it was much more lucky!
Tumblr media Tumblr media
It was amazing to see how they had restored the entire ship! Its fit for a crew of 17 people and inside there was even a huge list over the 14000 (something) norwegian sailors that served in wars at sea. The ones that survived and those that sadly didn't.
I hope my great grandad is on that list (but it was impossible for us to find him as the names wasn't arranged alphabetically!). According to my dad, my great grandad survived 2 shipwreckings (hit by torpedo on 2 of the ships he served on during world war II and survived! Cheating fate twice!) My great grandad died two years ago. But if he would have been alive today he would have been 100 years old!! And right up until 15 years ago when I saw him the last time (my family is sadly split up due to silly fights and my great grandad lived a bit far away from me) he was sharp in the head and still with a clear hatred in his heart and soul for what the nazis did to his country and to the world. He really said to be that "all those fucking nazis should have been gassed or pushed out from "Preikestolen" (which is a huge cliff in Stavanger in Norway.)
I am proud to be the great grand daughter of one man who served his nation in the marine and the other (who sadly died before I was born) having survived a concentration camp (sachsenhausen). It brought me to tears to read the diaries and hear the diaries re-enacted of those 15-16 year old boys that had to fight at sea. Not knowing if they would make it back home to their mothers. Fighting in wars or not...they were boys in the end! Missing their mothers!
I just thought about that today. That world war II is not even 100 year away from us. And about all those boys and girls that had to grow up way too fast and serve their nation!
I just thought about that and also how they need volunteers on the veteran boat. And ok even though I have fishermen and marine folks in my blood... I still may not be a full blown sailor...but it sounds like an adventure to live at sea on a ship that have experienced so much and survived so much. Needless to say I would feel very safe on that ship!! Haha.
Even though I won't get paid I am considering it. To be a volunteer. I am very used at being onboard at boats/ships since my dad has worked on many ships and have taken me and my sister onboard from we were kids. And my grandad took us out fishing quite early too. (My parents met each other when they worked at the same ship so I might even be made at sea!)
Anyway all jokes aside: I just wanted to share this because I am proud of what my great grand dads have done and what they have survived.
Ok. That was all. Now you can go and enjoy the weekend! Because we truly are the lucky ones!
Oh and one last thing; how cool are these ventilation wheels on the doors to the cabins?

Ok that's it. Enjoy your weekend!

"Björn Ragnarsson!"
He almost smiled at your angry face and your hands on your waist, giggling inside of your frown while looking at you with his best arrogant face, as if your words weren't covered in the thickest reason of the world.
"How dare you to tell me you don't have a box to put under our tree for your own daughter with this naturality?" you said, exploding in a wave of anger that would be completely justified...
If he wasn't playing games with you, of course.
"Would you like me to lie?" he asked, mockingly. "I don't have a box. That's it. No boxes this year..."
"And that's what you'll tell our child? Is that it? No gifts from papa this year, honey. Just like that?" you spat back so beautifully furious.
If you only knew how much your anger was sexy for him.
"You heartless bastard! How can you still look at me with all this arrogance, you motherfucker! Go fucking buy your daughter's gift right now, Björn!" you yelled, punching his chest, furious with the way he was giggling at your punches, walking back to avoid them to become too strong.
He was playing with you. He had to be.
"You jerk! I'll call Lagertha and tell her the bitchy bastard she raised has no gift to her granddaughter this year! What do you think of this, uh, Mr. Father of the Year!?"
"Hey... haha... Calm down, Y/N, for god's sake, of course, I have a gift to Y/D/N. Jez... I just couldn't decide which ribbon I would place on it..."
"Asshole," you cursed, seeing his lips curling as he laughed at your face.
"Come on, babe, you thought I would be this much of a bastard?"
"You lost her birthday once..." you remembered causing him to roll his eyes.
"It was an accident. And I promised it would never happen again, right? So... Would you help me to choose the right ribbon? I still have to pick her gift up, so you come with me and help me with this, what do you think?" he asked, caressing your face softly as you were still coming from your high of fury.
"Fine..." you sighed, punching his chest one more time, surprising him this time not giving him time to get rid of the punch and earning a faked 'oof' he giggled off, pretending it was a hard punch. "I hope this is not one more of your games. You better have a gift to my daughter or else I swear I'll buy her a new dad!" you joked picking up your coat to get into the car.
He drove for a while - far away from the commercial district, by the way, which made you start thinking he might not be kidding and really not have a proper gift for her. It wouldn't be something new - Björn seemed to be always learning about how to be a good father to your child and despite he tried very hard, sometimes she stumbled as hard as he tried...
Your heart became even more worried when he stopped in the middle of nowhere, in front of a house you've never seen in your whole life.
"Stay in the car. I'll be right back," he said, getting out of the car and causing chills down through your spine.
What the heck was Björn planning after all?
Was he buying something used or classical for her? Maybe some handmade thing... The thought of a handmade doll made your heart beat deeper. This would be a wonderful choice! Maybe he was visiting an old lady and buying from her products and there were you, full of preconceptions about something that could be beautiful.
That wasn't the spirit of the Holidays and in the end, you were the one hurting it after all. You took a deep breath. Björn was her father. Despite all the mistakes he had done, he was still her father and he would know what was best in his heart to make your little princess happy.
With all your thoughts you didn't notice when he came back from that old house until he knocked on your glass, waving his hand for you to open the door and come out, which you did, curious about what was he holding in his other hand, hidden behind his back.
He had such a beautiful smile on his face.
"Did you get it?" you asked.
And his smile became bigger.
"I did, now... Red... or Green?"
Red or green?
They were Christmas colors, but your girl loved pink. And blue... What red or green thing could Björn have found for her?
"Björn... if you're talking about the gift, then you should..." you started, thinking about telling him it was good to exchange the colors.
But he didn't wait you to finish your thought.
“Do you think red, or green ribbon, would look better on me?” his voice sounded before he brought his hand forward holding the most beautiful little pup you have ever seen in your life.
"Oh, my god! He's so cute!!!" you said, picking it from Björn's hand carefully since he was still young and so beautiful. "Oh, my god, Björn she'll love it! She was asking me so hard!"
He smiled proudly, knowing he had hit the bullseye.
"I knew she wanted a dog and well, I confess I didn't want to buy one for her. You know how these breeding houses produce their pups and I was thinking about an alternative to avoid contributing to their horrible ways so, Hvitserk heard his girlfriend saying this old lady's dog was having pups and I thought it was a perfect idea: they would have time to naturally leave their mother's breasts and she even gave him all the vaccines and stuff he needs," he said, warming your heart with how he was planning it so long and how much time he dedicated to that sweet gift. "The little boy here is ready for some adventures! But first, he needs a proper tie, don't you think?" he joked.
"Since he'll be introduced to a princess, I guess green and red braided ribbon would be the perfect Christmas tie for this little one, don't you think, sweet little thing?" you said, laughing when the dog licked your nose, shaking its tail happily. "This is adorable, Björn. The most adorable thing you could have ever done. You really surprised me and I think Y/D/N will love her gift!"
"I'll teach her everything about how to take care of our new family member. And you, boy, prepare yourself for years of a wonderful life!" he played, touching the dog's tail and smiling at you before kissing your forehead.
Björn had his mistakes, it was undeniable. But you had to admit he was an amazing man. And in the end, his heart was pure and knew exactly what to do to make the two of you happy.
Now... The three...
Cause your family just grew bigger and you couldn't be more satisfied.

Author’s Notes 2 | Yeah, a second box! I didn't want to place it upon the fic to not ruin the surprise, but I think it is important to mention it here and take the chance to speak about this subject.
Christmas is coming and I know there are many children buzzing in their parents' ears about how much they want a dog or a cat or a bird or any pet your son likes like his life depends on it. Believe me, it doesn't. But this pet you intend to buy for him... This life depends on you.
A pet is not a toy. It might be a gift, but before everything, it must be a responsible gift. A pretty responsible one! You're adopting a life! So, before just going there and buying what your son wants for that beautiful smile and teary face of his, think about this twice...
Children are growing. They change their minds all the time. And what your son wants today might not be what he wants tomorrow. But a dog won't vanish from a day to another, nor will stay quietly turned off in a shelf while your son is now playing videogames with his friends.
So, before buying a pet, make yourself some basic questions to avoid risking a bad adoption and posterior suffering for this life you're taking under your responsibility:
- Do you have time to have a pet? Children won't always play with their pets but the pet needs attention, it needs to be educated, it needs to be well treated. Do you have time to go out with the new Fido to walk or will you just sit and work while he stares at that beautiful collar you bought with him?
- Do you have space for a pet? If you live in a small apartment, a pug might be an amazing idea, but for the lords' sake, think before you just go and buy it. Small races are, sometimes, bred cruelly just to be aesthetic and even being small, your pet will need space to walk, space to play, space to sleep, to poo, to eat... Don't buy a cat if you don't have space to put his food in a pot far away from his sandbox! And don't think you can just push everything in your cubic service area... No one likes to eat into the bathroom so don't be cruel and force your pet to have a single square of space in your house ok?
- Do you HAVE to BUY a pet? Can't you adopt? A pug will give you lots of love of course, but the dog that spent 5 years in a shelter waiting for some love will be an incredible companion as well. And some pet stores will forcefully breed the pups for this time of the year to get their profit. If we stop giving them what they want, then they'll have no reason to force animals into procreation just to have that beautiful pups you love to see on their glass windows every year...
- Do you have money to have a pet? They get sick, have needs, have special foods, vaccines, microchips, licenses, medicine, pots, clothes (depending on what you live, they'll even need shoes!)... Do you have money to supply this second child with all he needs?
A pet is pretty more than a gift, it's a new member of your life that will be there for, at least 15 years from now. S,o please, adopt with responsibility and have in mind your gift is life and it must be respected.
Thank you and Merry Christmas!
