        THIS IS HOW A WARRIOR KNOWS FEAR: take her heart clean apart and ask her to entrust someone to put it back together. She sits too stiffly, a clean fork poised in her hand having no intention to be used. Nothing on her plate has been touched. HOW CAN SHE EAT? How can she force something down when something else is clawing its way up? It sits on her tongue like a spoonful of medicine, bitter and acrid, a punishment more than a cure. They have been little more than strangers for weeks now, though she knows what his hipbones feel like pressed to hers and can still remember the map she traced across his back of every constellation his freckles represented. What do you do when you love someone so much that you know better than to tell him so? She wants to swallow the medicine; instead, she says, ❝ I NEED TO TELL YOU SOMETHING. ❞
