There is something so soft to me about the way Tommy hugs people. Like how he cutely squishes his cheek against Buck’s or when he leaned into Chimney so they feel him and know he means that hug with his whole heart.

lol that “shovel talk” conversation was so on brand as a Hen and Tommy interaction. Karen being part of it made it even more enjoyable.

Hen has been giving Tommy shit for years. Remember when he tried to make a bet (on credit) and she told him she was gonna eat his lunch and she was the one who pushed his face into his cake?

That’s her old friend and that’s clearly how they get along. If she didn’t trust him or something, she could just tell him to stay the hell away from Buck.

Has anyone ever considered that Maybe Tommy wasn't very upbeat at the ceremony because his homophobic former captain was there and ruined his whole day and likely made him uneasy?

And maybe Buck was being his silly goofy golden retriever self to try and keep Tommy in good spirits?

Which only worked for a short while because Gerrard approached him specifically to harass him and basically called him a fairy. He knew Tommy transferred from the 118. He was purposely setting him up to be homophobic to him. He only approached Tommy to bully him.

So then, protective Buck had to come out and give him a nasty glare while Chimney stepped in front of them and put Gerrard in his place one good time.

Well ofc nobody's thinking about any of this because they don't like Tommy so they don't care about his feelings.

Tommy has consistently come through for the 118, Buck especially, and the one time he needs cheering up and support, people see him as miserable and "bringing Buck down" and they enjoy a moment where he gets hurt.

We have seen Tommy happier, laughing/smiling more and way more upbeat in other episodes.

How much fun did you expect that man to have when a homophobic demon that he wanted to be away from, is 10 feet away from him (and will soon approach him) on what's supposed to be as special for him as it was for everyone else.

Whether people like it or not, and whether people want to humanize his character or not, doesn't change the fact that the decision for him to have a hurtful moment was intentional to give him a piece of the "ghosts from your past" storyline that everyone else is impacted by, to emphasize that Tommy is part of the current story and his character matters too.

What if Buck did get to buy Tommy that beer and they really hit it off and agreed to hang out again.

So they hang out a few more times and Buck, being hopeless and unaware, doesn’t realize that he hangs out with Tommy differently from the ways he hangs out with his other friends.

They go to the movies, they go for walks on the beach, Tommy makes dinner reservations for them, they text a lot and spend hours on the phone, Tommy takes Buck for helicopter rides just because…

But during one of these sunset helicopter rides, Buck has a passing thought about how romantic this is

and he’s like…wait…

So he looks back at all the times they’ve spent together and he realizes he might have feelings for this man.

He turns to Tommy and asks him if he wants to go out on a date, while also apologizing in case he had the wrong idea.

Meanwhile poor Tommy’s confused because he thought they were already dating the entire time lol

I’m up early thinking about how fast people went from being cool about Tommy (and Lou) and the first kiss to absolutely hating him and wanting him dead.

At first, seeing the kiss brought everyone together, but also not really. Everyone was excited about the kiss, how it was executed and the fact that Buck was bisexual, but the thing is, many people were excited for completely different reasons.

Some people were excited because they thought Buck was written as bisexual for them. For their ship. To fit into their headcanons.

So at first, they were willing to ride the wave of Buck and Tommy, thinking he was only gonna be around for 4 episodes. They read Lou’s interviews, thought it was great that he improvised the chin grab, and he received a great deal of approval for how gentle he was with Buck. It wasn’t just bucktommy shippers that wanted to interact with Lou on twitter at one point in time.

Then, people started showing interest in Buck and Tommy as a ship and not a stepping stone and bucktommy shippers were being side-eyed like “hey haha wtf are you doing, this is temporary.” There was a lot of disappointment and resentment because people were “closing” on one ship to enjoy a very real and canon ship, and then the ship itself grew to 1,000 fics in a very short period of time and again, people were like “hey haha wtf, can you literally fucking stop? you’re being weird over a 4 episode fling.” and then people were showing Lou a lot of love, booking his Cameos and constantly praising bucktommy as a couple. And once more, people were like “yo, what the FUCK, you’re gonna make them last longer STOP TALKING ABOUT IT.”

So then the heavier resentment began and there was a very nasty shift. It was “bucktommy bones xx episode trust” every week until it wasn’t, and people became angrier and angrier about it.

Some people already didn’t like Tommy, but they were willing to speak on it either privately or not very aggressively until, well, Tommy received a lot of support and was *checks notes* around for too fucking long. And then hundreds of people started being so aggressive about it that some people felt forced to pick a side for sanity.

People were showing interest in Tommy in a way that was upsetting to people because it made him too significant. Like, when people asked for a Tommy begins episode and fatphobic jokes were made in response.

Shippers have been single-handedly blamed for Tommy being around beyond the 4 episodes. A lot of people thought he would simply disappear and Buck would move on to the relationship people believed he was made bisexual for.

I watched this happen and things became more and more uncomfortable with every week that passed until it was insufferable and I deactivated my old twt account and recently made a new one and blocked a bunch of people.

I bet they had a lot of moments like that. Where they’d pick up the phone and one would already be typing a message before the other could.

Or they’d call each other and a lot of their conversations start with “I was just thinking about you”

Maybe Tommy would show up with the exact food Buck was thinking about, Or Buck would cook the one thing Tommy was really hungry for.

They probably finished each other’s sentences from time to time.

They could agree on a lot of things because they’re constantly on the same wavelength.

They just fit together.

I had some fun in my little mind space imagining the possibility that Tommy already knew of Buck and was lowkey starstruck when he met him.

Chim was like “this is—“ only to be cut off by Tommy saying “Evan Buckley, struck by lightning and died for 3 minutes then came back to life to tell the tale.” And puts out a hand for Buck’s.

Buck knows word travels around and he’s amazed that this super cool pilot who agreed to fly them into a hurricane knows his lore and Buck just never tells him “call me Buck” and is fine with this really cool guy who made him feel like a celebrity for a sec calling him Evan.

Also it kinda explains why Buck was able to casually bring up being struck by lightning as a point of reference and Tommy was more shocked by Buck meeting an ex in a helicopter crash than him being fucking struck by lightning lol
