the sinclair family has been a member of huntsville for generations and generations, but that didn’t stop torrance sinclair from wanting to be the first to leave. it took all the scheming he could, but an embellished resume landed him a corporate job that was mostly based in atlanta. his intent had been to move the family after they’d all graduated high school at his wife’s request, but he rarely ever came home after that, too busy with his new life. 

evelyn didn’t really care about the children having a ‘stable education’, but the man in town she was having an affair with and wasn’t ready to destroy her reputation for, but also didn’t want to leave. 

jasper was far from a star pupil, but he was well-known, and one of the best soccer players their town had. it was hid dream to eventually play in the professional league. 

he was your typical jock, surrounding himself only with other athletes and their significant others, partying from a young age (easy when your parents were rarely around), prom king, etc. 

had two or three main best friends from the soccer team and one of their girlfriends, celia. in his mind, life would never change, going to the same university, no one ever breaking up, his own family he’d made and ... frankly ? liked more than his own. it was a bit hypocritical considering he broke up with his own girlfriends monthly. 

eventually celia and his best friend broke up, which he blames as the catalyst for the downfall of their high school legacy, and was quite bitter about the break up, as though that were why his best friend lost touch with him.

he went away to play soccer for the wvu mountaineers, where he did have a potential at going pro, at least until he broke his leg during a street race. his father was disgusted that he’d thrown away his only chance at being worth something, but at least he had his political science major... 

shortly after graduation, jasper went back to huntsville for another weekend trip to visit his friends when the storm hit. 

a few months after the storm began, his father came looking for them (more out of anger at their shirked responsibilities of following his dreams for them than concern) and refused to be trapped in the town, but was caught at the border by the monsters. jasper was never close to his father, but generally doesn’t like to talk about this. their last conversation was about his being a failure, as usual. 

generally is pleasant but arrogant and doesn’t really care what happens to anyone except his best friends and siblings.

This is the first year that Jasper has not immediately set his sights on some attractive skier’s girlfriend who stayed at the lodge or rich socialite here to crash his annual party. It is rather exclusive, after all, as he doesn’t even invite members of his own pack. Still, this information does cause him to raise an eyebrow at his own actions before ordering another drink. He’s hardly had time to work on a game plan when he spent most of the road trip arguing with Roxy and one of his family members over the road trip playlist and now he’s gotten distracted listening to Roxy’s karaoke rendition, absolutely for her voice and not her New Year Eve’s outfit, he’s a gentleman. “Do you think I could get an autograph ? ” Jasper teases hers, one hand lightly, playfully, platonically taking her wrist to tug her towards him.

JASPER ELLIOT SINCLAIR was born on the planet of iyama to an upper class pair, one of three children. the first image that may come to mind is a lively, bustling household, but jasper’s childhood was far from it. the children were not products of love to the scheming duo, but more bargaining chips into securing a legacy. would they grow up to serve on the council, to marry into a royal family, perhaps to ascend to the throne themselves? with three children, they could mold them like clay into whatever future they desired for them.

born the middle child, jasper managed to avoid the absolute brunt of his parent’s scheming ways. one sibling was the golden child, projected to be one of the youngest members to join iyama’s government thanks to their intellect and dedication to honing their abilities, the throne in their sights. the younger sibling was charm incarnate, wrapping everyone around their little finger, destined to enamor their way into the royal family. where did that leave jasper, too easily caught up in daydreams to excel in his classes and one of the only ones in his class yet to show any manifestation of powers? 

when his father became the current queen at the time’s advisor, jasper never remembered a time his family had been so happy. the celebrations were a high point in his life, but his parents’ hold on him became like a tether he could not free himself from. when they found themselves too late to match their youngest with callum, jasper was tossed into the boy’s orbit, along with all the other high-ranking officials’ children. if he had no choice, he might as well make the most of it, and that came in the shape of reckless adventures, from breaking palace furniture for mock weapons as children to throwing boisterous palaces as a teenager. jasper began to learn that the only way to survive the tether that felt now like a noose around his neck was to disappoint his parents just enough that they considered him not worth their time.

at sixteen, irresponsibility and mischief incarnate, jasper had a thing or two about flirting with girls, but one in particular had caught his eye. he’d spent months courting her, and a young jasper, certain she was ‘the one’, decided to ask for a betrothal. perhaps his parents would try and stop him, but why would he care what they thought now? this one girl made him happier than most of his family ever had. she’d said yes without hesitation, and breathless and elated, he’d all but demanded she not change her mind and stop loving him, even if his parents intruded. except... he’d wanted this promise so badly that it was a demand. her eyes glazed over for a moment, repeating back a monotone promise not to change her mind and stop loving him. confusion gave way to horror as jasper realized he was not powerless after all, but his father’s mental manipulation had manifested just in time to force someone to love him? 

take it back, he’d pleaded, panicked. his father was liked by many, and jasper knew a significant amount of his adoration was due to mental intervention. this... the very idea of becoming his father terrified him. he demanded she not promise him anything she didn’t want, and the problem seemed solved. he should be elated and yet... as the weeks went on, jasper became paranoid that her happiness and declarations of love were somehow invented, artificial, a product of his own making. guilt ate at him despite her assurances that she’d loved him all along, and jasper broke off their betrothal before his parents even learned of it, refusing to see her again. he confided in his father, desperate for a solution, but his father only laughed, a deceitful tongue too easily supplying that love was the easiest emotion of all to control. believing him, jasper decided love was something he never wanted to feel towards anyone again. 

despite years of service to a queen, loyalty was another word that meant nothing to jasper’s father. due to some government upheaval, a new queen was elected. jasper’s father wasted no time pledging his support, despite mocking her for her young age and lack of experience behind closed doors. like whiplash, after the usurper took action, jasper’s father’s alliances changed yet again. when it came time to choose sides, jasper found himself shoved onto the usurper’s side, betrothed to another family who’d chosen to follow him in a show of strength. throughout all of this, jasper found he didn’t particularly care who won the throne. was that all anyone on this damned planet wanted? 

on earth, a memory-less jasper’s life is still roughly identical to his life on iyama. 

believing themselves the only aliens that somehow crash landed to this planet, jasper’s parents still arranged for his and roxanne’s betrothal

still exorbitantly rich (it’s easy to get any job you want when 3/5 of your family has mental manipulation), his mother has been planning an elaborate 2024 wedding

     It is one thing to get married on a drunken whim, another to continue with this charade simply to ruin their parents’ lives, but to force Roxanne to spend an entire afternoon with a house (never a home) full of Sinclairs, Jasper can’t think of much worse of a situation that he can constrain his platonic wife to. The two of them alone in the kitchen other than the family made, Jasper leans behind her to reach for the champagne glasses. “You know,” he whispers into shell of her ear as he grasps two of said glasses, “If you want me to stage a scene for us to leave, I’m far from above such antics.”
