Nelliel holds a lot of affection for her little sand-grown tribe, enough to indulge in the continuation of childish games she no longer needs to entertain her now that she’s returned to her adult form. Still, the familiarity is pleasant and there is little else to do in the ruins of Las Noches.

Of course retrieving his sword wasn’t going to be such a simple affair. Kōta was lucky that it was the kind Nelliel who met with him first. Her presence alone was as much a deterrent as it was reassurance to the general populace... but he was on his way out now, and his presence was enough to set off several flags across Las Noches.

The moment he walks through that Garganta and returns to the world of the living? He would no longer be under her protection. Kōtarō becomes fair game. Maybe he should’ve taken her up on her offer to accompany him back to Karakura, but he’s certain he caused her enough grief as it is, even though one of the Pícaro instigated this whole affair. Besides, how can he call himself a lieutenant if he can’t hold his own?
