i love that jonathan has this season-long conflict with joyce, but that he still defends her when lonnie goes against her and he still tells hopper that his mom is tough. he'll only fight with her, he won't complain to anyone else.

it has such a beautiful complexity and tragedy to it. that boy loves his mom and he's worried for his mom and he'll try to keep his mom together and it's unfair and imbalanced and heartwarming and amazing.

okay, nobody pay attention to me, it's just that once she finally slows down and looks at what jonathan's been doing, joyce is so impressed and sorrowful and that's when jonathan starts to let it out. the guilt and the sadness and the fear, and he says he can't tell her but he clearly needs to, pay no attention to me, i am FINE—
