Something that came to mind for me recently to ask you is what do you think of lyanna stark and rhaegar targaryen from game of thrones and their relationship and do you think that if they both had lived would they have been good parents to jon and would catelyn actually have been decent to jon if that was the case
I can’t say much from the show because they didn’t focus on their characters or relationship - which I think is a real shame because in asoiaf they have such complex characters that are not one-dimensional at all. Especially Rhaegar - who is one of my favorite characters in the books.
I do think they have been amazing parents. Lynna would have raised Jon to be brave, confident and badass (not that he is isn’t those things already!) but we really would have seen more of the badass vibe we get from Sansa/Arya if Lyanna was there.
As for Rhaegar, I would have loved to see him with Jon. In the books, there is so much depth to his character. I think he would would encouraged Jon to read and play music. Jon is such a people’s person and he is a wonderful and kind leader. These are also traits I love about Rhaegar. I feel like they would have been amazing parents and it makes me sad that we never got to see that and that Jon never got to have that.
And yes of course, Catelyn would have definitely been nicer if she had known that Jon was not Ned’s son - which kind of annoys me. I never liked the way she treated Jon and made his life kind of miserable. Although he had Ned as a father figure, he wasn’t really a father to him. So, if you think about it, Jon never had parents growing up. Not really :(
All in all, #JonSnowDeservedBetter
