June 6-7, 2021 - Origin of the "Drink plenty of water" lld saying

Gong Jun released a small video saying he caught a cold a few days ago~

And Zhang Zhehan's weibo posted saying: "Drink plenty of water, drink plenty of water, drink plenty of water."

It's implied that he posted this in response to JunJun's post, since it was unusual for him to post something so random. The pictures attached are also just him drinking Perrier Sparkling Water, which he never endorsed :>. Source Below:

210609 - Gong Jun asks the livestream host to speak Zhang Zhehan's name!

The livestream host read out the winners of a giveaway. Some names were CP fans, and one of them was "fan of Gong Jun and Zhang Zhehan." But she wouldn't say his name. This is per etiquette bc they should have broken CP already, it was past the WOH/SHL airing period and after the concert. HOWEVER, Gong Jun insisted that she say his name because "it's not nice" to skip it!

June 10, 2021 - ZZH posts on weibo saying: "My mustache/beard has its own thoughts."

It's implied that his beard/mustache may be JunJun, and he can say whatever tf he wants >:).

Also the kadian is 21:46= the same seat number that ZZH was photographed next to during his mini concert~

June 16, 2021 - ZZH sings Unbreakable Love with changed lyrics, LLD handsign, GJ possible background vocals

ZZH sang Unbreakable Love on a show and changed some of the lyrics around.

The song ends normally with

"I walked past the rooftop where I watched the meteor shower with you." - he sang this during the rehearsal as well (3 different times, 3 x the same original lyrics)

During the 4th rehearsal he changed it to:

"where I survived the long rooftop with you"

During the LIVE performance, he changed it to:

"I walked past the rooftop where I survived the long distance and the wait."

He sang the song with tears in his eyes, and after he finished, he wiped his tears off (cries and screams)!!

There's also a point in the song where he purposely points at his ear piece, waits for the BG vocals to start, and then sings. There's a noticeable difference in BG vocals vs the rehearsal, which also is available on YT. We think that GJ may have provided his vocals for this surprise part of the performance~ Source

June 27, 2021 - GJ and ZZH reply to each other on Weibo with videos

GJ posted on Weibo saying, "This summer, go meet the person you want to meet."

ZZH's studio, on the same day, posted on Weibo with him singing a line from his new song (now unreleased) named, Run To Meet You.

They're definitely talking about each other, and I'm NOT surprised that ZH wrote a whole song about running to meet Gong Jun, considering they were extremely busy during that time and had very few chances to see each other. At least nowadays, I'm sure they can spend lots of quality time together <3 <3

These two really never slowed down hahaha, I miss them!

so this tweet about Gong Jun carrying only things for his laopo spurred me to finally make this post about the giver/carrier dynamic. I haven't watched an extensive amount of GJ non-bl bts but from what I did watch (~30 min each of Begin Again and Love Equations) it's pretty clear that GJ is totally different with ZZH. I would argue he approaches all his co-stars differently, ZZH is just the softest (but that's a different post).

The focus of this post is about the really seamless way ZZH seems to pass things to GJ. Obviously GJ is willing and (from the looks of it) likes to carry things for ZZH but it doesn't really happen the other way around. Believe it or not, this is a personality archetype LOLOL

My best friend Alex (@mr-iskender) is the perfect example of someone who will carry things for others happily and without noticing. But it took me years into our friendship to notice. In fact, I never noticed. I found out from an anecdote that he TOLD me.

I was like oh? and I started trying to hand things off to Alex but he always noticed. The hand off was always really stilted. And I don't think i ever really got very good at it. Now he will just graciously take things when im trying to hand things off to him without comment (but he still notices).

And obviously it's not a lack of love that makes this particular exchange stilted. It's just that I don't like/ am not used to other people carrying things for me. I don't particularly like carrying for others either. I just think everyone should hold onto their own things hahaha

so yeah the seamless handoff happens because of love AND because gong jun is a carrier. But why has he never done it for any other costar? Yeah it could be that he loves ZZH more than his other costars. And as much I think that is true, i don't think the threshold for carrying things for others is very high. You don't have to be soulmates, good friends should work. And he seemed to gel plenty with Zhou Yutong and Reyi Liu

So why GJ and ZZH have this seamless handoff relationship:

WOH-meta Translation Series

Preface:

I am (very very very slowly) doing a translation series of WOH meta. I gave up both Twitter and Youtube to join the Tumblr WOH fandom for one reason alone: meta. Here is the only place I’ve been able to find quality discussion of WOH! So I want to contribute my share by translating some of the best meta I have come across on the Chinese net – and some are mindblowing. I hope to give it my best.

Please understand that I will be translating video essays a lot of the time, and I don’t want to steal their videos, so I will be providing links to the videos, and creating my own translation articles based on those videos. However, because a video essay often relies on visuals to make a point I have to sometimes rely on paraphrasing or summary to make my workload less or the article read smoother.

I also want to say that I don’t always 100% agree with some of their arguments, so the opinions I translate don’t represent my opinions, but heck they are still worth listening to! (If lots of people engage with these posts, I will have more motivation to do it quickly =p) (I also feel maybe the WOH fandom is dying down now on tumblr, so maybe not as many people will read, since a large portion of us have moved on to JunZhe fandom haha)

Feb 14, 2022 - Happy Valentine's! GJ posted a Junzhe kadian + LXZ still muted + 1st WOH anniversary event

Hope everyone's got company in the form of people or chocolate / food today! Here's a candy for you all:

(disclaimer: these are all candies/fan assumptions, take with a grain of salt)

Note on kadian: Kadian is a number code that is a homophone to some Chinese words. For ex: 520 (wu er ling) sounds like I love you (wo ai ni), and is what a lot of Chinese people think when they see these numbers (also May 20, 5/20, is another day like Valentine’s). It’s very common shorthand to get across phrases without typing out the whole thing. It’s kind of like saying LOL or LMAO to express laughter, or like the joke:

Did you hear why six is afraid of seven?

Because seven eight (ate) nine!

Lots of companies make use of kadian as timestamps for posts. I guess an American equivalent would be some company posting at 04:20 advertising pot/etc.

1. GJ’s Valentine’s Day post history:

GJ normally makes a post on his weibo for Valentine’s Day, Feb 14. He sometimes updates other platforms as well.

In 2020, GJ posted at 11:11 (the kadian code 1111 is known for making a wish) with 1 dog emoji. Maybe he was wishing for love? This was before WOH filming, and presumably when he was still single and performing that young bachelor act. (For ex. He’d often post pics of his abs on social media, but post-WOH, he never showed those babies again haha)

/edit for July 2022/ he DID just post a whole slew of ab pics across a bunch of platforms. 🍬 Is he posted these as a thirst trap for ZH and he kadian'd:

Fans at the time speculated if the 5 fingers + 11 dog emojis referenced ZZH’s birthday. And we all know how much GJ likes to browse his own topic + their LLD/JunZhe supertopic, so he actually references and knows what fans are doing all the time (before 813 of course).

I can’t remember where I saved this image from, so forgive me, but it references the fans talking openly about 5/11 meaning ZZH’s birthday. They say, if GJ and ZZH meant for his Valentine’s post to refer to ZZH’s birthday, please post on your respective weibos these phrases: “Love without parting hands.” and “ ‘Gong’ happy, get rich”.

WHICH THEY ACTUALLY DID. THAT MARCH. Asjfakdflkas. Candy confirmed?

In 2022, THIS YEAR. GJ posted this at 2-14, 13:14 + 11 dog emojis again.

1+4=5 + 11 dog emojis = 5/11 (ZZH’s birthday).

1314 = forever / eternal love.

You might say, wow, what a coincidence, he’s posting the same thing this year, surely he knows what it meant to all the fans in 2021 right??? What a cute laogong. BUT HOLD YOUR HORSES, THERE’S MORE.

2.These twitter users noticed that this location is almost the same spot that ZZH took a photo at.

And when you overlap the two pictures… ZZH ends up in GJ’s arms.

I can’t with these two. Even after 813, after so much mess and heartache and trauma, GJ still shouts as loud as he can his love for ZZH. And this fandom, they are the best detectives I’ve ever seen lol. Hoooly- Ugh, I love them SO MUCH.

5. LXZ / Uncle Li has been muted for awhile but he’s still kickin’.

Edit: Uncle Li's account was deleted back in April :( He put a letter out through his show's weibo account stating that he will back away from all social media from now on, and anyone that comes up with his name is an imposter. This post was deleted shortly after.

Doing his thing offline, it seems like things are going well, so there’s not much news. Probably will come back after the Beijing Winter Olympics since CN wants to focus on that coverage instead of CAPA drama.

2021 - Year in Review - Let me tell you how I fell into this pit

It's New Year's, and I know it's a happy occasion, maybe? For me, I'm just really anxious due to personal family things, as well as ZZH things, so I'm writing this to distract myself haha. Let's talk about how I fell into this danmei pit~ (LONG POST)

1. It was early 2021 - Heaven Official's Blessing - TGCF

I was browsing on Netflix looking for things to watch when it recommended me Heaven Official's Blessing, the donghua. I watched it, thoroughly enjoyed the visuals/story/music, and then I checked out the manhua. And realized Starember's work is THE MOST BEAUTIFUL WORK I'VE EVER SEEN.

So then... the manhua wasn't updated that quickly, so I decided I'll just look up the novels and read them, I can read pretty quickly, so no big deal, right? WELL. I ended up spending 2 solid weeks reading ALL of the TGCF novels lol. My god, I fell in love. The writing was just -chefs kiss-. Hualian invented love, as they say. So I ran out of material and was slowly going insane...

2. I looked at MXTX's other work, MDZS + The Untamed

I was desperate for more, so I saw The Untamed was rec'd to me on Netflix. I used to watch old wuxia shows when I was a kid with my mom, so I thought I could get back into it lol. AND THEN, i couldn't even finish the first two episodes, the CGI killed me haha.

I ended up reading MDZS (Mo Dao Zu Shi), and then I came back to watch the Untamed. And I got HOOKED. HOOKED. Absolutely destroyed. I fell in love with the world, the stoic Lan Wangji, the chaotic good gremlin Wei Wuxian, and their forever-love. So sweet.

I checked out the BTS of The Untamed, all of it. Everything. And I became a turtle and started shipping RPF for the first time in my entire life. Yizhan / BJYX SZD stan here. I spent about three months just devouring every candy I could, honestly, where did my life go???

3So, I slowly went more and more insane... and then I heard about what happened to a certain actor in August.

3. Zhang Zhehan / Gong Jun + Word of Honor

I really didn't want to watch WOH/SHL because I was so obsessed with the Untamed, and my initial impression of ZZS's makeup was just too spray-on tan lol. It killed me. So I read a bunch of danmei like Thousand Autumns/reread TGCF, etc, until I gave in in September 2021. I started WOH and it took a few episodes, but when ZZH's face was revealed in that make-up remover lake, I just died. He was so beautiful. Their chemistry was off the charts, the flirting was so cute, the STORY itself - about older men falling in love and finding their own family, starting again. It's just such a rare story to see, I've never seen it. Usually media depicts really young people falling in love, or older people, or people who aren't Asian and queer. And this couple, WenZhou, was just so sweet. I loved it.

I even loved all the outrageous nut advertising, honestly. I still have to finish my 28 day LLD challenge about how much I love WOH/LLD/JunZhe.

After I demolished the show, I decided to watch the behind-the-scenes for funsies. I was thinking, how possible is it that ANOTHER couple, both men, fell in love on the set of a BL show??? Like YiZhan? No way. But damn. Those two are so loud, I don't know how you can deny it.

Ah god, I love them so much. I watched all their shows/interviews/the concert a thousand times. I just loved their love, it was so sweet, pure. I followed all the sagas/the ring saga/one night in x, etc. --which I want to do a write-up on this blog later too. When I discovered the saga of the ring, that convinced me 100% that they're together. It's not so uncommon for actors and actresses to fall in love on set, happens all the time in the West. So why would it be weird for these two boys to fall in love in CN?

Anyway, I fell in love with their love <3. And After what happened to ZZH, I couldn't leave. I want to stay on the mountain, and support him from afar, waiting for the day he'll come back. And maybe the day where they'll both be in the same stage again! Now with Uncle Li's help, that future isn't so far off, I think.

Conclusion

Thank you for joining me on this journey :) I've only started this blog a few months ago because I was feeling very alone in my love for them, and my grief for ZZH. But I see that there are a lot of new followers, and people who like the same things I do, and like them the way I do. So great to have a shared love of something so pure :) Thanks all! Let's hope for a brighter 2022.

Day 3: Favorite WenZhou moment

So first off, I must include the Ni Bu Pei scene from Ep 27. The BTS is just so happy and sweet, and I love that both GJ and ZZH gang up on HYM lol.

ZZH: I can't stop laughing when I see your face, ni bu pei~!

GJ: Please bb if you laugh i'm gonna laugh oh no it's starti-

HYM: These gays, I stg-

4. Night Roof Date ep 9 + Ep 12 + EP 17

"You'll tell me why when you want to."

"It's difficult for us at our age to show our hearts to others. I can't do this myself and I shouldn't ask you to do so. So I decided to take the first step, and take a gamble. You are the one that I know."

I have a soft spot for considerate gentleness. ZZS is just so gentle with WKX every time the question of WKX's past comes up. He never pushes him to tell him about his past, and he understands that everyone's got things they regret about their past. He understands that WKX may not even know how to tell him, or how he feels, or if he even remembers everything anyway, but that's okay, ZZS is willing to wait and give him space. Ahh, so sweet.

3. Midnight ZZS Tears - EP 24

"Lao Wen, there's nothing between us that we can't discuss."

This scene solidified how much ZZS trusts WKX, regardless if WKX was willing to entrust him with his true feelings or not, ZZS just wanted to show that it's okay, and he can take the first step in admitting all the things he's regretted in his life to his zhiji. Because he knows WKX will understand him, how complicated life can be, when you have a good heart, but you do bad things, how can anyone else but WKX understand him? Here, WKX also doesn't push ZZS to confess any aspect of his past to him, but ZZS does so willingly - maybe to pave the way for WKX to do the same someday.

2. Confessions in the Rain - EP 14

This scene is one of my favorite favorite WenZhou scenes, which I will talk about more for Day 4, saddest WenZhou moment.

1. Basking in the Sun - EP 12

Honestly, this scene never fails to put a smile on my face. They're just so soft with each other. I don't prefer the overtly sugary/make-out slow-motion scenes in romance, I think it's so overdone and there's usually a lack of chemistry. There are only a few instances where it works out really well. Contrary to that, we have this very simple, slice-of-life scene where WKX calls out to A-Xu 3x, and expresses how much he feels surrounded by love, being able to call someone and have them be there for him. A-Xu is the same, and calls Lao Wen x3, each a lil more playful. I think it's one of the most romantic scenes I have ever watched lol. Of course it's also due to the very intense chemistry between Zhang Zhehan and Gong Jun.

During the concert, the hosts said that it was the first time WKX heard a call from the human world, the good part of it, full of hope and love. I think it must be the same for ZZS as well, since they both come from morally grey backgrounds and find this moment of happiness (and possible redemption?) in each other.

Day 4: Saddest WenZhou Moment- Wen Kexing's Grief, Zhou Zishu's Resolve

3. Ep 36: Dual Cultivation

I love the callback to Legend of Condor Heroes (or is it Return? click for link to video with comparisons) where they also dual cultivate and their hair turns white. The saddest part is when they enter the Armory and ZZS/WKX act as they normally do, teasing each other and having fun. Each knowing and already deciding that their lives will come to an end soon. In WKX's case, he's happily joking around and enjoying his last moments with ZZS knowing that his one important person left in this world will be taken care of, and he can't let ZZS know.

2. Ep 10: "Leader Zhou, do you dare to say that you've only ever killed bad people?"

WKX assumed everyone in jianghu was bad and deserved a bad end, but he didn't anticipate the Four Sages of Anji to be so good and moral, finding each other as zhiji and living in peace (much like he hopes to live with ZZS). After his plan goes awry and the Four Sages are killed, ZZS confronts him and asks if this is what he wanted? He kind of pours salt on the wound, so WKX counters by asking if he deserves the moral high ground, hasn't he ever killed good people too? The look on ZZS's face as WKX says this to him is just- hurt. Tears in his eyes, he's surprised that WKX would use his past against him.

"How can people like you and me bear to be asked about our lives?" - Zhou Zishu

ZZS leaves, and they both spend the day being sad (and murder-y), thinking that their zhiji doesn't understand them. It is painful for ZZS to recall all the things he's done as Lord of the Window of Heaven, so he realizes that asking WKX to confront his bad moral decisions wasn't his place to do so b/c he's got plenty of past sins too.

I think this moment was important for both of them to see that they both have pasts that they regret, but who they are right now and with each other - that's what matters.

1. Ep 14 - Confessions in the Rain

Summary: Ye Baiyi corners Zhou Zishu and pushes him to reveal the truth about his deteriorating health. Wen Kexing realizes that his health is worse than he thought and pushes him as well. ZZS reveals that he punished himself with the nails and we find out that he would rather live a better quality of life with the use of his martial arts for a short time, than to live for ten years heavily injured without martial arts. And WKX is devastated that his newfound zhiji, the only person in the world who knows him, will only live for two more years.

WKX: “How long do you have left?”

ZZS: “At least two years.”

WKX: “Ah-Xu…”

ZZS: “Lao Wen, others can say stupid things, but you can’t. I would rather live freely for ten days than to live against my will for ten years.”

“There’s still enough time for us to taste all the wine in the world.”

WKX: “I understand! I understand it more than anyone. I just think it’s a bit funny. When I was little, I often disobeyed my parents and didn’t practice martial arts to play instead. My parents always said that if I didn't work hard at that time, I would regret it later. Once I got older, it would be too late to learn martial arts. I would argue back that when I grew up, it would also be too late to play with bird eggs and marbles. Who knew that I would spend.. my entire life… living in the wrong moment?

I couldn’t play when I wanted to, I didn't have anyone to teach me martial arts when I wanted to. I can’t have what I want. It’s too late to save who I want to save.

Fortunately… fortunately…” (I haven’t fallen in love with you yet)

ZZS: “Wen Kexing, are you done yet? I wasted my entire life, I gave all I had to win back my freedom. If even you are telling me to drag out my death for a few more years, then getting to know you was pointless.”

On Wen Kexing’s grief - for himself and for ZZS

I feel WKX’s life is really tragic. His entire life is marked by grief; grief for his lost family, grief for his lost childhood, grief for his lost love. He left Ghost Valley to enact a final revenge against the world, but he finds that there’s still a light of hope in the world for him, ZZS/ A-Xu. Maybe, once his plan is done, or maybe if he decides to leave his plan, he could travel the world with A-Xu. He finally met someone who understood him, all the layers of him, the buried good and the very bad. What great fate allowed him this? And then, he finds out- oh, ZZS is dying. He only has two years to live. How cruel can fate be? To dangle his light and hope in front of him again just to snatch it away? So I can understand his reaction here, to think that the world is truly cruel, to have his heart broken again, to have to mourn again, even while ZZS stands before him pouring his heart out.

Zhou Zishu’s resolve- for himself, for WKX

In ZZS’s case, he quietly kept his illness to himself, hoping to live out the rest of his days in peace with WKX because he already knows that WKX is his zhiji, the one who knows him, the one that he knows. And that’s enough for him. He’s lived his whole life regretting his decisions, trying to do what he thought was for a higher cause, taking his sect to become the Window of Heaven to work for a better future with Prince Jin, and then losing his whole family, one by one. He just wants to take something for himself this time, these last few years with Lao Wen would be enough, more than he could ask for. So he keeps his imminent death a secret. When WKX and YBY force him to reveal his secret, it not only devastates them but ZZS as well. His little fantasy of having a peaceful life is shattered, too. He desperately wants WKX to agree with him, understand that this was his decision, it represents his choice to be free. He wants WKX to validate his choices, to know that ZZS would rather live free and die quickly, than to suffer a long drawn-out death. And really, it’s his choice and his life. If WKX can’t understand that, then they wouldn’t have worked out anyway.

What tops this moment for me is the mutual helplessness from both of them. They both understand that this situation has no easy solution. So how do you move on from it? How do you still choose to love each other? Will it be lying to themselves to think they could have a happy love story? Could their love even be able to flourish with all this baggage? Would it be foolish to have some hope that they could still grow old together?

My answer is a quote from one of my favorite characters:

The glory of the heavens was ever beyond the grasp of those who never thought to reach for it. But if I’ve gained anything from all of this, it is the courage to stretch out my hand.

I haven't been able to write for a few months before cat!zishu so it's nice to have motivation for it and I always look forward to your responses so that's even more motivation haha (but also no pressure if you're busy)

Also, I kind of sit and have crazy thoughts about junzhe etc. all the time so having you (and now a few others!) read and enjoy my meta gives me an outlet to just let all my thoughts out.

It lets me do something with my free time other than be miserable.

You know yesterday your post about gj's acting hit me right into the heart (and into the brain too). It was like you've opened up a different perspective for me. I realized why i felt i like i felt. Today i came across zzh song in my playlist and 😩 it made me miss him so much. Where my zzh meta Naaaaani pls ahahah. I read junzhe fics all day because of this. Brainrot is real

But it makes me happy to know that my writing reached you in this way. I never actually watched entire scenes of Begin Again before and had a really galaxy brain moment yesterday. I'm still gonna drag him about how he carried that girl in Flavor It's Yours but I also think we should stay within the perspective that it's not really his fault. He's just not built to sit tight and look pretty the way low effort tropey het romances need their leads to be.

But he looks EXACTLY like the dream version of tropey het romance leads. GJ is not stupid so he absolutely knows that. And I think there is a prestige to playing even bad lead roles that he wouldn't have gotten from say a well written side character. (though I think Liu Yuning has shown that this is not true)

Everybody talks about how ZZH was typecast but as a overall trajectory I think ZZH has done a lot more dopey diverse roles than GJ. I mean ZZH has just done a lot more than GJ in general because of the 4 year headstart. But the pressures they had starting out as being from an elite school vs not must have made their priorities really different in the roles they chose to audition for (in addition to management etc etc)

I haven't seen any of zzh's works other than 'Ge' but happy to do more research for zzh romance style because:

1) No pizza delivery guy porn has made be want to fuck a delivery guy as much as Wang Yue

2) I have seen Ruyi and Yanxi BTS to prove to myself that GJ was special to ZZH (I'm a shipper this will always be my goal and perspective) and I have thoughts (ie he is and he isn't lol)

I liked the posts you made, but I understand if you want to stay away from the toxic parts of fandom. I hope they still do the novel and script for zzh and gj.

I’ll continue to make posts about WOH and JunZhe definitely! (will sit down and make more long posts, meta etc) It’s just that today was my first explicit post reporting on trending fandom issues... And I don’t think I want to do that again. I think it’s more that I’m shocked that literally the very day that WOH ends and the two of them get into direct competition with others, they get into trouble immediately. I don’t think I needed verification of my worries so soon...

The joke in fandom since the concert ended has been “Is Gong Jun in trouble yet? Can he go ask ZZH for help yet?” *let them meet let them meet* And then they both get into trouble... It’s the timing. Every time I get a glimpse of how ugly it gets in fan wars, I just immediately want to turn around and run in the opposite direction.

Ultimately though I think the love that this author, XiaoChu and MaTao have for JunZhe won’t waver. Goodness will prevail.
