a personal favorite retelling of mine is Merugud Uilix maicc Leirtis (The Wandering of Ulixes Son of Laertes), simply because of the sheer delight it inspires
#I've already talked about Odysseus wriggling away from the cyclops#but Odysseus and his men also float over the cyclops 😂😂#and essentially Telemachus related gets cut out#which. thematically? sad#but the story that remains (and the revisions) is fascinating to me#the insertion of native themes and references into non-native stories remains one of my favorite things ever#like the bit in The Destruction of Troy where one of the warriors gets described as having a warp-spasm?#just like Cúchulainn?? and the description is word for word taken from the Táin?? *chef's kiss* beautiful#anyway stopping here before the tags become longer than the actual post 😂😂#history#and *deep sigh*#irish mythology#I KNOW it doesn't apply really but I don't wanna lose the post :(
