Location: Sellsword Camp
This one is short and sweet. Just south of the Sword Monument, I found a camp of those mounted mercenaries. It took me a few tries to attack the camp, but I was able to drive them off eventually.
Tumblr media
Inside the camp, I found a dead Noble with a cookbook for making certain kinds of weapons. The voice informed me that it was originally penned by an armorer working for Radahn, though it didn't care to inform me who this Radahn was.
Tumblr media
I also was able to recover one of their weapons, which is how I now known that they're called Kaiden, which basically just means warrior. Sounds like someone who didn't know their language very well asked them what they were and the name stuck.
That's all I've got for now.
Where do the Kaiden Sellswords come from?
Who is General Radahn?

Why is St. Trina's sword in Caelid?
The torch makes sense, in the Snowfield where Miquella and most importantly the Albinaurics are. She gave music to the merchants. She gave arrows to the Albinaurics. Her clerics, apparently, wield swords- but Albinaurics don't use swords and merchants don't either. The only other people really associated with her are Cleanrot Knights, but I don't think they use swords either? I mean Malenia uses a katana, but her knights use spears and scythes.
Analysis of the straightswords in base game gives us:
Short sword/Longsword/Broadsword/Weathered straight sword/Lordsworn's straight sword/Noble's slender sword: Standard fare armaments.
Cane sword: Belonged to a Leyndell knight.
Warhawk's talon: I don't think the hawks chose to have these grafted on.
🔷Lazuli glintstone sword: Wizards.
🔷Carian Knight's sword: More wizards.
🕊️Crystal sword: Crystalian, found in the Albinauric village, which is associated with pilgrimage to the Haligtree. Notably we only see Crystalians actually use spears, staves, and chakrams.
🕊️Rotten crystal sword: Found in the Haligtree.
🕊️🔷Miquellan Knight's sword: Not only associated with Miquella, but possibly meant for his lord? Modeled after Carian swords, so technically another point for the wizard category.
Ornamental straight sword: Seems to be associated with Godrick.
🕊️Golden Epitaph: Made by Miquella.
🕊️Sword of St. Trina: Associated with St. Trina and by extension Miquella.
Regalia of Eochaid: All I know about Eochaid is they've apparently got telekinesis and lots of ascetics. Meanwhile this guy murdered merchants for their bell bearings. The Shaded Castle is kind of associated with the Haligtree, but also Gelmir? Who knows. This goes in the dump taxon.
Coded Sword: Potentially a Confessor weapon? That technically makes two Confessor weapons, this plus broadsword, but that's not much.
🔷Sword of Night and Flame: Even more wizards.
That puts us at 11 swords in the dump taxon/standard weapons, 4 straightswords involved with wizards, and 4 straightswords associated with Miquella in some way.
Considering Miquella's Carian connections I'm tempted to say that was an influence on the production of Trina's swords. Then again, straightswords also seem pretty common for footsoldiers, knights, and nobles. It's just really odd looking at the cultures attracted to Trina, and Miquella's Haligtree in general, and figuring out where the hell the sword inspiration came from. There were a few sorcerers there, but if I recall right the Haima conspectus uses hammers?
St. Trina's sword is also inspired by a real life sword- El Cid's Tizona. While it's debatable whether or not she actually belonged to him, potentially being a copy or even just something someone invented, the name is interesting and the design is very distinct.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
On the left is the Sword of St. Trina, and on the right is Tizona.
There's definitely some Spanish influence in some of the arms and armor of Elden Ring, but I'm not sure if that's enough evidence to start theorizing on or the game devs just thought they looked cool and applied the designs haphazardly. I mean the Mausoleum Knights are Polish, Jerren's set is based on the mostly German Landschnect, the Bloodhound Knights wear a hounskull bascinet that might be German or French, the Kaiden sellswords have some sort of Norse setup, Lionel's set is Spanish. For the hell of it I tried looking up scale skirts to see what the Zamor armor might be based on and I went down a wild rabbit hole.
Tizona is a really interesting sword, but I'm not sure how relevant she is to analyzing St. Trina? The devs might've just liked the flowery look of her. I might make another post for speculating wildly about that.
And, again, why the hell is St. Trina's sword in Caelid??? Because of the Cleanrot Knights? What were Rotview Balcony and the Forsaken Ruins, before the Shattering War? It's not like it's a grave, the sword is just kind of enshrined behind a simple lock. Was it a church?
I need to kill those goddamn birds and analyze the grounds.

also as a side note it's really funny that frenzy is stated to only affect tarnished for like...no discernable reason? aside from it just not being true, the majority of elden ring's enemies are clearly sapient beings that should be susceptible to it. the misbegotten and bat people are pretty obvious (singing bats and hewg both confirm that they're Like Actually People)
but aside from the literal humans (kaiden sellswords\misc. generic soldiers) you've got the ancestral followers and servants of rot both being intelligent enough at the very least to patrol roads and organize themselves. cleanrot knights are full of bugs but still likely intelligent, the man-serpents have a religious hierarchy, giants & trolls are explicitly stated & demonstrated to be intelligent, the beastmen have a whole city built around dragon worship, dragons themselves are intelligent...
i guess basilisks and the giant ants are probably just animals? and...bears? although some of the bears are partially draconic so who the fuck knows what's going on with that
like i don't Get what makes tarnished humans specifically susceptible to the flame of frenzy other than just. oops we forgot to make it work on enemies

I'm gonna say it: the Kaiden Sellsword spirit ash fucks. he can get it. one billion poise on roar, throws 90% of mobs around like they're chumps, complete bastard tier. They should have named him and put him with the other Renowned Ashes like bruh he can fuck just as hard as Hugues or Engvall or Floh.
No, he's not going to kill Elden Beast or Mohg by himself. He'll make them remember him though.

So I've got the itch to write but I don't feel like writing narrative stuff, so I'd thought I should finally share my Tarnished OCs here for whoever wants to see them!
Haradir of Kaiden / Haradir, the Last King of Caria
Tumblr media
Haradir is my first Elden Ring character, and so far, the only one I've beaten the story on. He's generally built as a mixed strength-intelligence build, favoring Loretta's halberd and frost sorceries.
As for his backstory, Haradir's mother was a runaway student from the Academy of Raya Lucaria, while his father was a Kaiden sellsword who also ran away from his post. Thus, Haradir was raised outside of the Lands Between, practicing both his mother's sorcery and his father's melee skills, and was already quite formidable when he was first called by Grace to mend the Elden Ring.
Tumblr media
Overall, Haradir is gruff and withdrawn, and brushes of appeals to sentimentality or threats. Still, he's very dedicated to doing what's right for as many people he comes by, though he understands when dirty work needs to get done. It was this attitude that led him to helping Ranni bring about the Age of the Stars, even if he still views warily (and too gay to see the marriage as romantic, lmao).
Flame Nun Lumina
Tumblr media
Lumina was my faith build save, and I think I started her around the time I got stuck in Farum Azula on my main save. I originally wanted to go all-in on blackflame incantations when I started this character, but then I discovered how crazy good the Blasphemer's Blade is and can no longer be separated from it.
Anyway! Lumina was originally a simple young noblewoman from Leyndell, and was known for her study of incantations and the Golden Order. Everything changed for her, however, when she was accused of studying forbidden history regarding the Gloam-Eyed Queen and was dishonorably banished to outside the Lands Between. A furious Lumina became increasingly determined to get revenge of the order that had wronged her and saw her call of grace as the perfect opportunity to carry out her plans.
Tumblr media
Lumina presents the facade of being a kindly young maiden when in the presence of other tarnished or respectable figures, but very much hides a cutthroat interior. Once she sets her sights on a goal, she will do whatever it takes to make sure it's done. Though she does hate the Golden Order and its servants, she tries to prevent collateral damage out of pragmaticism. Thus, she's going for the Age of the Duskborn instead of the Frenzied Flame.
