Speaking of colours, Great Pretender has to be the most eye-searing thing I’ve seen yet except Promare. Despite the restrained character designs the backgrounds have saturation 100% brightness 100% unblended colour blocks

It’s funny the different layers of verisimilitude you can get used to accepting. Leverage has solid con plots you can rap your knuckles on while the dialogue can feel campy and cheesy. PofI is always deadly serious but combines surprisingly apt political commentary with nonsensical action showmanship. Lupin is fantastical and fairy tale despite a layer of grime in the aesthetic presentation. Great Pretender does feel fake and cheesy and I’ll keep watching it because the bright colours and swingin’ sax telegraph that it’s not meant to be a cutting study of the corruption of The System, it’s meant to be a cheerful little Robin Hood fantasy
