Literally the only thing I’m grateful to R*kepick for is introducing us to Sickleworth. Where is he now? I miss him so much, he was the cutest little thing & now he’s nowhere to be found. I wish we could’ve adopted him or something, MC would have been a much better caretaker than her.

I've only just realized how much fanfic potential there is for this little guy. I want to see little mini-stories about his adventures as a little baby. Maybe the tale of how he met Rakepick in the first place, as a teenager. A story that threatens to make you go "aww" before you remember who it's about. Then his adventures in between, before finally being reunited with MC when they adopt him so that he can live happily ever after. Someone needs to draw that. This fandom is full to the brim of great artists, I hope one of them sees this.

I'll go with "(G)Ra(y)kepick." There's something so intriguing about a mentor who would die before she let anything happen to us, yet also torture someone in cold blood with a smile on her face. Someone who saved our lives, then refused to admit it happened. Someone who might have to divulge her secrets if we overpowered her, but let's be real, that isn't happening. Someone who broke our wand to keep us in line, but also warned us to watch over Merula if she should die.

Just...Year 5 Rakepick, I swear. This is what I mean when I say that once upon a time, she was interesting.

More of Bill's family tree, meet granny Kepick and gramps Oona. Not sure of their designs yet.

The disabilities I came up with for Kepick and Oona were these:

Kepick suffers from side over extension, which throws off her balance and makes it much harder to fit through places. With all her eyes facing away from it, she can't see if she's about to hit someone. It also leads to exhaustion because her body has to work extra hard to pump everywhere.

Or her other version: many of her eyes are blocking each other, which messes with her perception and overall hurts her ability to see clearly.

Grandpa Oona is missing his second hand. He also suffers from a symmetrical mutation, where he has a second set of three eyes that don't fully work, but occasionally send fuzzy info to him. This is disorienting to him. It also makes others confused because they speak to his back instead of his front.

Or his second design: still missing a hand, but now without any eyes, and uses a special cane to help him get around.

Kepick wears a necklace head piece combo that connects in the middle.

Oona wears a tie.

Ur pretty much one of the only ones I know of who actually likes R*kepick’s new look ngl. A lot of people think they overdid it especially in the sane route and I have to agree. She hasn’t even been there for a year, there’s no reason why she should look that bad already. If they had just used it for the insane route then it’d be more appropriate but it’s not. Also I don’t get why she’s still wearing her cloak over the uniform, like what they just let her keep it? Anyway yeah not really a fan of her new look but it’s whatever I guess :/

Yeah, it's possible that this redesign should have been saved exclusively for Vault Rakepick, and not given to Azkaban Rakepick. But I dunno...several months in that place is still pretty bad, even if it's comparably better than several months trapped in The Sunken Vault. Maybe they did overdo it but, eh...I'm not bothered. I just really like the design, but to each their own.

You gotta keep the cloak though. Even The Aurors understand that Rakepick without her cloak is hardly Rakepick at all. Okay, lame joking aside, her character model probably just looks better with it, and it's very befitting of her overall personality. Maybe they made a version of the sprite without it and didn't like how it looked so they added the cloak back in. It's a personal touch but I like it too.

I literally hate everything about R*kepick. She took everything from us and for what? Wtf was even her motivation apart from cruelty

I am now clapping hard enough to hurt my hands if I continue to do so for too long, so I shall stop now. In a nutshell, this. This is the problem I have with where they took Rakepick and with her betrayal. I know I have a bit of a reputation for being a "fan" of her but it's not in the way that people think. I was a fan of her in Year 5 as the problematic mentor, and I lament her betrayal because not only did we lose someone who I had grown to like (despite the frustrations) but because so much of her character was lost when she turned on MC. She taught them a hell of a lot and apparently forgot it all later. As well as forgetting the complexities of her personality. And as I've said, as I will never stop saying, she is not the sort of person who would have ever joined R. Stabbed MC in the back, used the Dark Side, become an enemy? Sure, I can believe all of that. But I don't believe she'd bend the knee to the Cabal. She'd go her own way, as she has always done. Selling out to a greater authority just isn't her style. It never was. What could she possibly be getting out of it? Nothing that we ever find out about, and given the place the story is in now, we'll probably never know.

merula literally started to say ‘avada kedavra’ & probably would’ve killed r*kepick in the buried vault if she wasn’t interrupted tho? jacob stopped her & threw her wand out of her hand but she really seemed like she had every intention to kill r*kepick right then & there imo. it only happens if you choose to tie her up & hand her to the authorities but still

I got quite a few anons who pointed this out to me, and you're right. That did happen.

Still, I don't know if I can really consider that evidence that Merula would have it in her to kill someone if the time came. Like, she'd definitely try, I'm not saying she wouldn't try. All throughout Year 6, she was discussing her plans to try. But I tend to think of her as being kind of like Draco and Regulus. Where she's drawn to the Dark Arts in idea, but in practice, she wouldn't truly have the stomach for it. Killing someone just requires an edge that I don't think she has. If you think about it, she got about as close as Harry got to killing Sirius in the Shrieking Shack during POA. But despite having the opportunity, and having several minutes where he held Sirius at wandpoint, Harry simply couldn’t do it. Although that case is somewhat muddled because he didn’t know how, and the spell hadn’t even been introduced yet...but the book seems to want you to assume he could if he really wanted to.

I digress. The point is that I simply don’t believe Merula is capable of actually murdering someone. But I could be wrong. That scene does indicate for certain that she was going to attempt Avada Kedavra. Would it have worked? Maybe. The Unforgiveables have been said to require meaningful and malicious intent. So if your heart isn’t really in it, the spell could simply fail. We’ve never seen this happen, per se, we’ve only seen Harry’s attempt at Cruciatus yield a much weaker version of the spell. But Avada Kedavra doesn’t have a spectrum like that. It kills someone, and that’s all it does. Perhaps Merula would have failed, or perhaps she would have simply missed, due to her nerves. Barty Crouch Jr. seemed to think it was possible for the spell to fail.

That said, choices are also a major theme in this universe, and killing someone is a choice. One that is so terrible that it rips your soul into pieces. Whether or not Merula could truly bring herself to murder someone if the moment came is a worthy discussion...but at this point, she hasn’t done it yet. Which makes all the difference. If she ever does, that will push her over that line. A part of her innocence will be permanently lost. I’m not saying that killing someone is always immoral, there’s a time and a place where it can be totally acceptable - Snape killing Dumbledore proves as much. Certainly, it would be appropriate to kill Rakepick. But even so, I think it would still qualify as murder if she was incapacitated and defenseless. At least based on the "soul tear" policy, if that makes sense. Then again, I wonder where we draw the line between what constitutes murder. You could make a case that, as a member of The Circle of Khanna, Merula would simply be executing Rakepick for her crime.

Trouble is, it’s personal for her. At least, I think it is. We still don’t know. The mindset that Merula portrayed in Year 6 was precisely the reason I never wanted her to be the one to finish Rakepick if they were indeed going to kill her off. I didn’t think that would do her any good, that it would only set her further down a terrible path. All of this is moot if Rakepick and Merula have secretly been working together this whole time, and Merula’s vendetta was a facade. But I don’t think they have, and I don’t think it was. It’s just a theory at this point, but whether or not Merula knew that Rakepick was going to betray MC in the Portrait Vault, I don’t think she was expecting to be tortured. I believe that was a bit of improv on Rakepick’s part, and Merula’s hatred of her is genuine. It’s Merula, would she really care that they’re on the same side? She’d want revenge. Likewise...perhaps she knew the Forbidden Forest was a trap. Perhaps not. But I genuinely doubt Merula knew anyone was going to die. I don’t even think she knew Rakepick was going to show up.

A lot of this remains to be seen, a lot of it comes down to how you interpret the Best Witch at Hogwarts. To absolutely no one’s surprise, I still try to see the best in her.

i pick all the mean choices and make my MC be rude to ppl whenever i’m in a bad mood. i feel bad about taking my anger out on the characters though even though they’re not real but sometimes it helps a bit. especially if it’s to characters who actually deserve it like R*kepick Snape and Dumbledore lol

This does make me dwell on the whole concept of writing your MC to be a budding dark wizard or a general asshole. I have to assume some folks do that, I know at least one person who does, but how common is it? Well it has to be common enough because the options are there, the dialogue choices, as recent as the infamous choice to challenge Cedric. What happens if you play your MC as a complete monster, who abandons Merula to the cursed ice in Year 1, who bullies Ben as much as she does, who treats Rowan like crap during the Prefect Sidequest? How does that reflect the way that the other characters see MC? And what about the times when it's debatably justified? Like during that big fight scene in Year 5. You already know Luca is going to say "I'm the one who should apologize" but what if you're playing through this and you agree with the "You should be sorry" option, what if you feel attacked during that scene?

I think you make a great point about how there are characters for whom this behavior is justifiable. There are far too few chances to call Dumbledore out for my liking, and not too many more for Snape. But resisting Rakepick and expressing doubt in her at every turn can be very cathartic, I would presume, if you have the foreknowledge of what's coming. But even if you don't, it makes for an intriguing rivalry/mentor dynamic in Year 5. In general, I think these choices are here to build up to a turning point for MC. There's been a fair bit of foreshadowing now that turning to the dark side will eventually be possible, perhaps joining R in the final act. That would be cool. I'm not saying I would do it, but it would be great if the option was there. I love games with big choices and multiple ending.
