Modern Vaastu Home Designed by KN Associates (@kn.associates ) To be used by an extended family with three generations living under the same roof, five bedrooms were required in R House on a plot of 8,000 sq. ft., all in a Vaastu-compliant layout. The architects took these practicalities forward, weaving interventions that introduce sculpture and installations as part of the design, all the time using local artists and craftsmen. Principal Architects Narendra Joshi and Pritesh Patel narrate the story of this home as it attempts to complement the raw, exposed brick and concrete mould with refurbished traditional elements. House of Zinc Walls by @studiouf_o is a 2500 sq. ft residence made up of 4 amalgamated smaller, twin apartments, for a family of 6 with varying finishes. From simple and labour-intensive brass and teak wood to machine produced sophisticated elemental zinc panelling and Italian marbles, have all been used in the project, in order to create what was specified by the client to be in essence a modern-day, ‘Indian’ home set within a straight-lined and minimal aesthetic. The apartment is dotted with bespoke pieces that were painstakingly detailed and crafted as a response to the functional requirements set out by the clients. This project is characterized by a unique zinc wall panelling system intended to unify the shared living, dining and kitchen areas. Zinc Panels meant originally for building exterior cladding were re-appropriated within an interior design context for this purpose.
