Resin update. 😻
Tumblr media
Of all the things I made last time, I don't actually hate anything, surprised?, I am... and nothing needs scrapping or too much work.
The original plan was to use acrylic paint to pick out the details from the mold of the cat, but there are a few microbubble holes which would cause an issue I don't need to make, it looks cute enough. My niece is changing her bedroom from German Shepherd inspired, to her fave colours, and I think she'll love everything I have made/have planned, flaws an' all, she's that kinda gal 🥰.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Trinket pot is really bubble filled, but, I'm thinking 'cause the colours, I might make a tray to go with it, and make it sea'spired (have some ideas), then I could claim the bubbles as intentional, lol. 😂
Tumblr media
Leaf coaster-thingamabob, was for me, and I was experimenting with using mica pigment with a little isopropyl alcohol mix to paint details straight on the mold before resin pouring. I like it, currently residing with some of my plants. Could be better, but, heyho, there's always a next time.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
I'm going to make 3 more coasters, different inserts, same colours, but different glitters etc... I'll keep you posted, as they're just gifts, for no particular reason, I'm in no hurry. The coaster does need a top coat, I have tape, or liquid latex which should make it easy enough just to pop on a thin layer to get rid of those little surface holes where the insert dog sticker went. The bottom of the coaster holder required some sanding back to smooth it, but it's the bottom, and I have some little non slip stickers I can use, it's also for a 9y/o, she won't even notice.

Managed to waste half the resin I mixed up for xmas dec's by leaving it in a single cup, so it generated too much heat and flash cured, in about 20mins 😳. Only ended up making 3 large copper & gold snowflakes, and 3 dangly purple one's for my niece. sigh.
Kicking myself, if I'd only spread it out and poured it in to more cups it wouldn't have heated up so quickly. sigh.
Should have known better, I know that resin (Resin Glory) has a habit of curing quicker than most as is. sigh.
Payday tomorrow...

Decided to make a few gifts for xmas this year, didn't turn out cheaper, but for the most part happy.
Made these for one brother & sister in-law...
Tumblr media
And then these, for another, which didn't turn out perfect, but to remake would cost me money I don't have... I don't hate them, they're just not perfect, damn bubbles between the decal and the layer of clear resin... 🥺
Tumblr media
Each coaster the same, mum said it appears at first glance to be glitter. I disagree, but, I guess I know it's a cockup. I could cry, and if I hadn't already spent a fortune on resin this month, I'd be remaking the coasters, minus the decals.
Pics also to come of the dominoes I've made for both nieces, I'm waiting on tools so I can neatly paint the dots so they stand out.
And I've made some xmas decorations. The wee tree mold my bro' got me is awesome.

Didn't manage to make anything Halloween, or autumnal (yet), my brother had a job for me...
Tumblr media
Not the most fun I've had with resin craft, he bought the resin (more than enough, or so I thought), and the molds. Molds weren't great quality, and quite flimsy. Had to redo the first T, and O, I wanted those to be transparent resin pigments, but the molds had other ideas, the O isn't smooth in areas which stood out, but doesn't using the shimmering mica pigments, and the T has a couple of indents in the silicone. Oh and I made the third T first, and found it bulged out at the bottom (subsequent Ts had a flat edge shoved against to get them flat, so they'd stand), I had to sand it down flat and put a top coat on, the resin which had been perfect up to this point did not cooperate...
Tumblr media
It did at least cure, but it did not cure nicely. Thankfully it's out of sight. This is a thank you gift for his bestie that did his dino inspired sleeve, (super mates rates). The colours I used represent different parts of the tattoo. Very happy with how they look, mind, as he is. And the colours are very close if not perfect, phew.
Made plenty of clips/barrettes out of the excess leftovers. Just didn't work out in my favour in terms of profit, wouldn't allow my brother to give me money, the excess resin was to be my payment, he did treat me to some Christmas decoration/snowflakes molds as a thank you. 🥰

Amazing how less mess and significantly less sticky I get when I decide to sit on the floor and use resin impromptu.
Top coat on previously made coaster, clear layer and stickers added to another couple of coasters for my niece to add to the set, and the remaining resin I added some mica and added to the leftovers cactus (work in progress).
I did order another couple of coasters for convenience, but they sent the holders ¯\_(ツ)_/¯. Too inexpensive, and way too far away to bother inquiring about returning. I did luckily have another coaster mold which fits the holder, so I'll just have one left, and there'll be two of each shape. I'll look to another site to see if I can find the same size coaster mold, it would be far more easier if I had a few for the future.

Top two were gifts, the little (5cm) cactus is mine. I have since bought another cactus mold I've yet to try out, a little bigger, same shape, and I have a couple of different kinds in my wish-list, these oranament shape molds are great for left over resin, layering them up.

My afternoon...
Tumblr media
Results to come at a later date. I made a small lidded pot, round coaster & holder, a cat, and a leaf coaster...
I kinda hate this resin, I can see it's plus points, if I ever need to dome something, I'd give this a go first... for my needs/skill it's just too thick straight off when working with multiple projects at once, it turned out okay when I made that green leafy coaster set, but it was still a stressful experience. It's near impossible to be bubble free (unless using small amounts at a time), and it flash cures way too easily. I've been collecting up new molds, thought I'd use the rest of this up, so I can buy one I can rely on (I have three I use regularly, depends on what's on offer or how much I need). I expect everything today to be imperfect, but I really don't care.

15:40pm... finally lunch time. I've been asked to make a coaster set for friends of one of my brothers and wanted to get a start on that early enough that I had plenty of sunshine and warmth without sacrificing a lay-in. Cleaning & feeding the birds, and lunch was a little delayed.
The brief, clear & sage green. He chose the geode shape set of molds, the set I used for the Mickey inspired Xmas pressie I made them. Asked if I could deviate somewhat away from too much clear, I'm always wary that the resin might yellow with time, or more importantly not be able to de-bubble it. Bubbles, the bane of my existence. He sent a pic of their recently decorated living room, and I told him my ideas. He seemed happy, I got him to pick out some detail inserts... 🤞🏻
Tumblr media
Everything crossed what I've done cures and is relatively bubble free. So far the base is complete and curing, but the four coasters are just a clear layer with the leaf detail... once dry, tomorrow I'll mix up the back layer, add a little sparkle accent and pour. I'll post pics of when I'm finished. I thought about taking pics whilst working, but I get sooooo sticky, and I can't post on Instagram as that would spoil the surprise, so decided just to photograph the final product.
I will do a little board to show the inspiration tho'... excuse the fuzzy pics, I had to zoom in on the pic he sent lol...
Tumblr media
My sister in-law also mentioned they like some sparkle, so plenty of sparkle going on in the base.

Today's crafty afternoon involves, making my mum some Xmas coasters for her birthday, as per her request.
Part one... Clear resin using red, green and gold glitters and sequins; stars and snowflakes.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
In a few hours I'll mix up another batch (will have to use a different brand resin, thought I'd have enough), and use mica pigments in the same three colours to do the back layers. I'm thinking one of each colour, and the fourth to be all three colours or clear, not decided.
All fingers and toes crossed for this, as the resin I've just used (NIUB) has been hit and miss for setting solid. Also I haven't as of yet had much luck getting rid of all bubbles that form round patterns/indented bits in the molds. Not used these ones before, they came with a holder too (see below), but that's for another day, and only if these work.
