I will not reach you. 君には届かない。Ep 4
I was thinking about subtitles the entire first half of the episode so wasn't really liveblogging, but. These two. I love them. I love the pacing of this show. I really, really like the classmates, especially Hosaka, obnoxious as he's being.
Murasen is such a high school teacher. Dajare and all.
Hosaka is NOT letting this go and I love that for him, for me, and (ultimately, though I don't think he appreciates it yet) for Yamato (and Kakeru).
Arashiyama? EXCELLENT choice, Yamato's clearly a man of taste. When I lived in Kyoto I'd sometimes just bike out to have a walk in the bamboo grove, or to have sweets at one of the cafés, or just stand on Togetsukyo and look out over the water.
Yamato's smile when Kakeru offered!! I am so tempted to translate 'yakusoku da yo' with 'it's a date', but. aaah.
KYOTO oh I miss it (in case that wasn't clear from the rant above)
My kneejerk reaction just now was "oh NO not the girls", which isn't really fair to them – Kayo deserves to see her bf, and Akane is sweet.
"i need the bathroom" classic Yamato
these two, is2g
calling him out to see the stars with you, holy shit, you've got it just as bad as Yamato, Kakeru
the dad lives!!! aah I'm really happy to hear that somehow
awww, they really do go way back
oh Yamato, you're really trying
friends to lovers best dynamic forever, I said what I said
ONSENNNN
ONSENNNNNN
ahahaha Kakeru's SO in his head (but then again, who knows what goes down in the bathroom with teenagers – I legit got groped in the chest by a same-gender classmate during bath time on my own school trip, so, uh, maybe not unreasonable to assume things might get weird)
poor Kakeru, being used as a mule
Yamato is acting 'normal' because he's used to being in love with you, kiddo
HOSAKA
I love Hosaka so much
I kind of wonder about Hosaka's backstory now, with him all insightful
oh that shirt on Kakeru! I want that shirt!
ahaha CLASSIC
aaah, tatami. I'm almost sad my own class trip was to Hokkaido so we stayed at a regular hotel :'D but only almost
I am FOAMING AT THE MOUTH god these two, these TWO
the pacing of this show is so good!
In case you couldn't tell, I'm thoroughly in love with this show. Is it special? maybe not. but like many of my favourites (*cough* Bad Buddy *cough*) it takes an ordinary, run-of-the-mill story and tells it in a really lovely way.
Also apparently the Japanese shorthand for this show is kiminai, so I'll be rebranding in my head and tags, sigh

Current Time: 20:33
Current activity: winding down, tumblr
Currently thinking about: whether to try and catch up on more shows, work on subs, or actually spend time with people in brickspace.
Current favourite song: idk about favourite, but แน่ใจไหม (Are you sure) by Nont Tanont is once again living in my head rent-free.
Currently reading: [redacted] for beta work, also re-reading several older favourites from CQL/MDZS fandom and Bad Buddy. Also a lot of [also redacted] stuff for work.
Currently watching: suddenly a lot of Japanese shows? most of which are ending this week or next, alas. As @twig-tea said: lol here we go (in no particular order but semi-ranked in terms of how much space they are taking up in my brain?):
Won't get through to you (kiminai): I just watched the first episode because I wanted to see what that one new Japanese show was. Next thing I knew, I was first cleaning up terrible machine-translated subs, then (as of ep 4) translating from scratch. The show … it's nothing special, but it hits a LOT of right notes for me – I love the main characters, but also the supporting cast. All of them.
If it's with you (narakoi): cute, easy to watch, I love Ryuuji and the overall family dynamics and respect Amane's directness a lot. I also love the setting of this one.
One Room Angel: love the banter and Kouki's done-with-everything deadpan.
What Did You Eat Yesterday? (nanitabe): incredibly comforting to watch still. I do have moments of second-hand embarrassment with the occasional comedy scene, but overall, this is just peak. Food, grown adult protagonists, slice of life -- what's not to love?
I'm slightly (or extremely) behind on these shows, but consider them "currently watching" as they're not purposely on hold (Japanese is just easier on the brain atm):
I feel you linger in the air (currently 2 eps behind)
Love in Translation (1 ep behind)
Only Friends (…6? 7? eps behind)
Current favourite character: probably Kiminai's Hosaka Yui. He's SO DONE with his classmates' antics and still tries to be supportive to the best of his ability, but he'd never admit it. King behaviour.
Current WIP: subs for kiminai ep 7, tons of work stuff, some bits and bobs.
