There are specific pathways here in Portland that I feel significantly tied to. Whether it’s a clean asphalt pathway, dirt and gravel trail, or even a river or creek… I discover these places and find myself returning to them again and again to find peace, clear my head, and stretch my legs.
I love the winding nature of these pathways, and the dramatic shadows that are cast from the trees, fences or buildings that run along-side of them. On a personal level, they serve as metaphors for events in my life – as I travel on my path in life and face the challenges it presents. On an artistic level, they allow me to employ my mixed-media processes to capture the drama, emotion, and sentimentality of these landscapes.
Essentially, I am creating unique landscapes that portray my psychological reality of living in the Pacific Northwest.
