Ancestor Project by Kwame Akoto @osramba_media 🙏🏾 The enslaved ancestors of the #Nkyinkyiminstallation at my studio before they left for the slave forts and dungeons of Usher Fort and and Cape Coast Castle. If you ever thought this was haunting then you should see them now. I'm leaving Cape Coast Castle today after a brief visit, doing research for the next stage of the installation. The atmosphere there have already taken toll on them. You can literally see the light and life have been sucked out of them. I can only imagine what happened to human beings. Kwame Akoto et Hervé Di Rosa : conférence du 7 avril 2018 au Musée du Quai Branly

Hervé Di Rosa présente quelques-unes des dix oeuvres de Kwame Akoto, acquises par le musée du quai Branly en 2017. Avec Sarah Ligner, commissaire de l'exposition "Peintures des Lointains" actuellement présentée au musée, il revient sur les échanges prolongés qui le lient au peintre ghanéen et le nourrissent depuis plus de vingt ans.

A beautiful shot of this installation in the rain. "It was as if the ancestors were weeping in anticipation of the painful journey ahead. In my studio where I created these sculptures for the @ancestorproject they were revered and treated with so much love. I told my assistants and volunteers as well as my studio visitors who these people were and they also accorded them with due respect and admiration. At the Kwame Nkrumah Park they are facing a new kind of admiration in the form of touching, probing, and countless selfies that I can imagine they feel like they are in a human zoo. Interesting to note that elderly Ghanaians got the symbolism right away without any need for explanation but the ancestors are having a hard time relating to the youth of this generation. But there is hope because this generation is so curious. “Cabinets de curiosités” au Fonds Hélène & Édouard Leclerc pour la Culture

L’artiste Kwame Akoto dit Almighty god est présenté dans l’exposition Cabinets de curiosités du 23 juin au 3 novembre 2019 au Fonds                                Hélène et Edouard Leclerc pour la culture à Landerneau.  

Seize cabinets sont mis en lumière : Jean Jacques Lebel, Mucem, Miquel Barcelo, Théo Mercier... On retrouve l’oeuvre de Kwame Akoto dans le Cabinet Antoine de Galbert illustré par la célèbre citation de Gandhi : « On peut juger de la grandeur d’une nation par la façon dont les animaux y sont traités » aux cotés de Joan Fonctuberta, Wim Deloye, Magritte, Oppenheim, etc..

You are invited to my exhibition dubbed “ #Faux-Reedom ” on the Sat. 4th March at the Kwame Nkrumah Park (Nkrumah Mausoleum) The exhibit is a progress on my #NkyinkyimInstallation and it comprises over 1,200 concrete heads that I have been working on for the past 3 and a half years with my assistants and volunteers. The exhibition is an intervention to Ghana’s 60th Anniversary celebration and the title ‘Faux-Reedom’ is a play on the word ‘Freedom’ with the word ‘free’ replaced by the word ‘Faux’. The latter word being a French word for false or artificial. Are we really free from the legacies of slavery and colonisation? It’s been 60 years, may the dialogue begin anew.
