171021 Shinhwa’s Eric, the 20-year-old idol with great charms and great cooking skills on observatory variety show, ‘3 Meals a Day’
‘3 Meals a Day - Ocean Ranch’ wrapped up the season with a Director’s Cut episode on October 20th.  Now people are focusing on Eric, the singer and actor, who was cooking next to actor Lee Seojin and Yoon Kyunsang on ‘3 Meals a Day’. On tvN ‘3 Meals a Day - Ocean Ranch’ aired on 20th, the secrets were revealed with Director’s Edition episode. Especially on this day, the guests including Han Jimin complimented ‘Chef Eric’.
Tumblr media
Han Jimin said “It wasn’t shown in the broadcast, but Junghyuk oppa made something before I left. We had bean soup noodles for the last meal. I was the one to remain seated and finished the bowl while everyone else was leaving”, complimenting Eric’s cooking skills. Before showing his talents towards observation variety show by being on ‘3 Meals a Day’, Eric made his first appearance in the music scene as a member, and Leader of idol group Shinhwa under SM Entertainment since 1998. Shinhwa is one of the legendary groups that is still active until now and they still maintain a great friendship among the group members. Shinhwa released 13 regular albums, 7 compilation / mini albums, putting out numerous hit songs such as ‘Resolver’, ‘Eusha! Eusha!’, ‘T.O.P.’, ‘Only One’ ‘Perfect Man’, ‘Brand New’, ‘Venus’, ‘This Love’. Eric is in charge of rapping and he is considered one of the successful idol actor. In MBC drama ‘Phoenix’ broadcasted back in 2004, he was paired with Lee Eunjoo. With the famous line “Can’t you smell something burning? My heart is burning”, he left a deep impression as an actor. In order to avoid the confusing idol and singer images, he used his actual name Moon Junghyuk while working as an actor. In this drama Eric re-birthed as actor Moon Junghyuk with his memorable charming acting.  He was awarded with Rookie of The Year Award and Popularity Award that year on MBC Acting Awards. After that Eric showed his steady acting and became true actor. Including MBC drama with Han Ga-in ‘Super Rookie’ (2005).  He continued his filmography with more dramas like MBC ‘Que Sera, Sera’ (2007), KBS 2TV ‘Discovery of Love’ (2014) Especially, last year, tvN drama ‘Again miss Oh Haeyoung’, that made Seo Hyunjin the rom-com queen, Eric showed impressive acting as the role of Park Dokyung, who is a very sensitive sound director character. Creating great chemistry with his leading actress Seo Hyunjin, Eric made the actress shine and also gave him the popularity. After the drama finished in June (2016), in October of the same year he joined ‘3 Meals a Day – Fishing Village’ season 3 of the same broadcasting company as a permanent cast. Eric reunited with actor Lee Seojin who he co-starred in drama ‘Phoenix’. He accompanied the ‘grumpy brother’ and younger brother Yoon Kunsang very well, showing a fun combination. Not just that, he also got his nickname ‘E-Chef’ because of his hidden cooking skills. Eric's culinary talent and unique affinity shone through this season. After showing closeness with actress Han Jimin who appeared on the first episode, the other guests such as Lee Jehoon, Seolhyun, Lee Jongsuk, he treated them without any hesitation or reservation that made the viewers comfortable. The last guests were Shinhwa’s Minwoo and Andy, who Eric spent his longest time with. They showed their deep friendship during the episode. Eric who was a little distant as idol singer and actor has became more friendly and familiar to the public by starring in ‘3 Meals a Day’ variety. He got married right before the filming of this season and has got a stable family. We hope to see him as actor and singer more often later on.

171021 ‘3 Meals a day’ unreleased clips are this much, Shinhwa’s Eric’s cooking has no limit
Tumblr media
Eric does not have any limits with cooking. Even in unreleased clips, Eric was showing his cooking skills and made people’s mouth water.
On director’s edition of tvN ‘3 Meals a Day - Ocean Ranch’ released on October 16th, the unreleased clips of 3 brothers and guests were broadcasted. The dishes up until now was enormous, but the unseen cooking were also mouth-dropping phenomenal.
Some of the unreleased dishes were Bean Soup Noodle with Han Jimin, Braised pork and Makguksu (buckwheat noodle) with Lee Jongsuk. Ha Jimin especially showed her liking towards the bean soup noodle saying “The last meal before we left, Bean soup noodle. Everyone else left the table but I had it till the end”. Lee Jehoon also picked his best dish through interview and Lee Jongsuk picked all the dishes.
The last meal with Han Jimin was suggested by Lee Seojin. They had bean at the moment. One of the things to do was to make young radish greens kimchi. So Eric made the radish Kimchi with Han Jimin and he made bean soup noodles at the same time. The works that needed strength were done by Lee Seojin and Yoon Kyunsang. They got exhausted after extracting the juice from the beans.
The bean soups with such effort was hitting the spot. All four of them were so into the soup and couldn’t get out of it. The weather got cloudy all of sudden, the brothers had to go shoot the poster but Han Jimin remained seated and emptied the bowl alone.
Tumblr media
It was more glamorous with Lee Jongsuk. The main dish was Makguksu (buckwheat noodle), but with braised pork and marinated yellow cucumbers were also there. Eric was again directing the assistants Kyunsang and Seojin, finishing the dishes. Jongsuk was surprised to see Yoon Kyunsang able to follow Eric’s vague instructions.
Makguksu, braised pork, cucumber marinade, everything was just right for everyone’s taste. Their mouth were dropped as seeing the braised pork just shatter away because it’s so soft. As they wrapped the pork with noodles, had pork with garlic and salted shrimp, it made the people who were watching the show drool for night snacks.
Lots of the dishes were broadcasted, but didn’t expect the unreleased dishes to be also this good. A total of 32 meals and 68 dishes on ‘3 Meals a Day - Ocean Ranch.’ It is clear that Eric takes 90% of the credit for all the dishes.

170909 Shinhwa’s Eric is a Waste of Talent to Just Be in ‘Three Meals a Day’… Let’s Start ‘Eric’s Restaurant’
Tumblr media Tumblr media
A genius Chef Eric has created a masterpiece again. There is a constant praise for Eric who made pizza and pasta this time in ‘Three Meals a Day’.
tvN’s ‘Three Meals a Day – Marine Ranch’ aired on September 8th featured Eric making pizza and a new guest Seolhyun.
In this episode, Eric took on the challenge of making Margherita Pizza. It was a tricky menu as you have to make cheese and pizza toppings. The pressure was on Eric’s shoulders to deliver. Lee Seojin ground the tomatoes and Yoon Kyunsang made the cheese.
Eric sweat himself out making the tomato sauce. He is not the old ‘snail restaurant’ owner any more. He surprised everyone with a meticulous plan. When the pizza was being baked, he made octopus broth and extracted garlic oil to prepare the oil pasta. Yoon Kyunsang could not hide his admiration at Eric’s perfect dish.
Yoon Kyunsang tried to make goat cheese for Eric, but he was surprised by the shrinking cheese. When Yoon Kyunsang asked Lee Seojin “You hate cheese right?” and Lee Seojin responded “I hate you.”  He also asked Eric “Do you think pizza will be very weird without the cheese?”, to which Eric replied “You haven’t seen me angry right?”
After some chaotic preparations, Yoon Kyunsang’s goat cheese was completed and so were Eric’s Margherita Pizza and Octopus Roe Pasta. In the presence of dishes that both look great and tasty, Lee Seojin exclaimed “It looks so good. How can it not taste good?” Yoon Kyunsang added “I want to live with you, Eric.”
Eric’s dishes made not only the three Deukryang-do brothers full but also the staffs. As Lee Seojin suggested that they make another pizza, the production staffs offered tomato sauce and pleaded “Please make some for us too.” After a deal between the staffs and the three brothers, Eric’s pepperoni pizza was completed and the staffs were ecstatic.
Eric is an all-round chef who can cook difficult cuisine and is approved by even Lee Seojin who is known to be picky. Eric has always showed off high-class cuisine on ‘Three Meals a Day’ and now truly become perfect ‘Chef Eric’ after he got faster with his cooking in this year’s Marine Ranch Edition.
Eric's cooking skills has become the focal point of what makes ’Three Meals a Day’ interesting to watch. It is such a waste to only be able to see Eric’s cooking in ‘Three Meals a Day’. In last season, Lee Seojin suggested to Eric, “How about we start a restaurant together?” It would not be surprising to see ‘Eric’s Restaurant’ much like ‘Youn’s Restaurant’.
With a fantastic chemistry among the cast and delicious food, ‘Three Meals a Day’ has achieved peak viewer rating of 12% in this week broadcast. At the heart of it is ‘Chef Eric’. His cuisine ranges from Western to Chinese, and the viewers are excited to see what Eric has in store in future episodes.

170803 Compilation of Three Meals A Day Press Conference (Lee Seojin, Shinhwa’s Eric, Yoon Kyunsang)
Tumblr media
‘Three Meals a Day’ is coming back with ‘Marine Ranch’ edition. A fishing boat has been tuned into a recreational boat, and the goat ‘Jackson’ and guests are newly making appearances. The cast and the place of the show, Deukryangdo are the same from the last season but there are many interesting changes ahead.
On August 2nd, a press conference for tvN’s new variety program ‘Three Meals a Day – Marine Ranch’ was held at the Grand Ball Room of Stanford Hotel in Mapo-Goo Sangam-Dong, Seoul. Production directors Na Youngsuk, Lee Jinjoo, and writer Kim Daejoo were at the press conference.
‘Three Meals a Day’ is a TV show where the cast use whatever food they find in unfamiliar and secluded farming and fishing villages rather than in the cities where you can easily find something to eat for a meal. The show had ‘Jeongson’ edition twice, ‘Gochang’ edition once, and ‘Fishing Village’ edition three times and it is loved by many.
Tumblr media
In this year’s ‘Three Meals a Day – Marine Ranch’, Lee Seojin, Eric and Yoon Kyunsang from ‘Three Meals a Day – Fishing Village 3’ are back together on the island of Deukryangdo. In the last season, Lee Seojin obtained a ‘fishing boat license’ and become ‘the Captain’. Eric displayed his great cooking skills as ‘Chef Eric’. Yoon Kyunsang was loved for the display of his big appetite. Everyone is excited to see what they all have in store working at a ranch this season.
The production team revealed why they chose to go back to Deukryang-do. Lee Jinjoo said she was thinking about where to go for the show and concluded that there was no place like Deukryangdo. She said “I thought we could show summer images by choosing Deukryang-do, and I was looking for new things for the show and ended up casting ‘Jackson’. We are going to feature the cast running a ranch and taking care of the Jackson goat’s family.”
Na Youngsuk PD also explained why this season is a “Marine Ranch” edition instead of “Fishing Village” edition, “Deukryangdo is an island so it makes more sense to go with Fishing Village edition but I learnt from the last season that the cast is not very talented at fishing so I thought we could do ranch instead of fishing on the island. With Jackson and his family happily agreed to be on the show. This let us make a unique show featuring a ranch on an island. Jackson is not just a regular goat but a mountain goat. He is able to produce high quality goat milk. When we offered the town folks the goat milk, they gave us compensations. We bought things we needed with that money.”
As the theme of this season is “Marine Ranch”, the ‘Seo Jini boat’ faced a big change. It was tuned into leisure rather than fishing. Na Youn suk said “We made over the ‘Seo Jini boat’. I gave up on the cast’s fishing so I installed parasols, comfortable chairs and ladders to jump into the ocean. I didn’t do it with much purpose but the cast was in love with it. Lee Seojin, Eric and even Han Jimin were so reluctant to come back once they rode out with the boat. I think chilling and fishing in the middle of the ocean might be what makes this season different from the others”.
Tumblr media
How was filming with Han Jimin? Na Youngsuk said “It was great. I even asked myself why I didn’t cast her before.” He also said “Han Jimin and Lee Seojin did Yi San drama a long time ago. She also did two dramas (Wolf, and Korea Secret Agency) with Eric. She became close to Lee Seojin and Eric through the dramas that they worked together. It is not easy to be close to two celebrities at the same time in the entertainment field, especially for an actress. So Han Jimin must be an angel. The atmosphere during filming was fantastic because of that.” He added with “She was so comfortable with us. She spent three fun days with Lee Seojin and Eric without much formality. They dissed each other, took care of each other, joked and had fun with each other.”
Na Youngsuk hinted that there will be active guest appearances in this year’s “Marine Ranch” season, “I am planning to have a guest every time we film. Lee Seojin likes it when there is guest. He gets bored when he keeps still. He has fun and goes everywhere when there is someone around. What sets this season apart from the previous seasons is that you will see people having talks like friends, playing in water, cooking together. It will make the show feel like an MT (retreat).” He also added “In the near future, I would like to have Kim Nam Gil for a male guest and Park Narae for a female guest on the show.”
When asked if Eric’s wife Na Hyemi is going to make an appearance on the show, Na PD seemed rather caught off guard by the question. He replied, “Well. I haven’t thought about it so I don’t know.”
Tumblr media
Writer Kim Daejoo said “You guys can expect the positive Lee Seojin that you saw in ‘Yoon’s restaurant. Yoon Kyunsang has a lot more to do than before. It’s important to note that he started learning how to cook. His food is still terrible (laugh) but he started taking interests in cooking.” Writer Kim added “Eric has got faster with his cooking but we want to let him focus when he is cooking and deliver the best food. He has even more varieties now, getting faster, and making food that is very different from the food he used to make before. He was making unique food before but now his food feels more familiar and he improved in that regard”.
One of the things to watch in this season is the newlywed Eric and his cooking skills. When asked if Eric has got faster with his cooking Na PD said “He got faster. It took about 4 hours instead of 5”.  Then he added “After the marriage, the most different thing about him is that he became really cheerful. He was a quiet guy who didn’t talk much but now he talks a lot.”
Tumblr media
Na Youngsuk also mentioned about Lee Seojin and his habit of saying “This show is going to fail”. In fact, the show is a simple reality variety show that features a group of celebrities making meals for themselves but this variety show of Na Youngsuk’s has been getting consistent love from the viewers. Na Youngsuk revealed his serious resolution for the show “Whether it fails or not, it has nothing to do with Lee Seojin’s mindset. We follow the viewers’ choice, and I am making the show with a mindset that I will step down if it fails”. He also joked “I don’t think people decide if the show is a fail with viewer ratings these days. I think Lee Seojin will step down himself from the show if the viewer ratings don’t go over 10%”.
He mentioned he is growing more concerned as the show continues with more seasons. Na Youngsuk said “I’ve done many seasons of this so I am making the show while keeping in mind whether I am repeating the same content and whether the viewers will find it boring. I try to keep the show’s unique culture and its simplicity because I think simplicity should not change. The viewers can have their TV on while doing something else. I just hope the viewers can enjoy the simple life vicariously through the TV screens.”
Tumblr media
When asked about Lee Seojin’s regular appearances, Na PD said “’Fishing Village’ edition had that vibe of survival with Cha Seungwon and Yoo Haejin who fished and gather things for their meals. I realized last year that people have different approaches towards their environment when I spent time with Lee Seojin, Eric and Yoon Kyunsang on Deukryangdo.”
He continued “Lee Seojin, Eric, and Yoon Kyunsang were enjoying softly in a rather easier environment. It is different from the time with Cha Seungwon and Haejin who always wanted something desperately but I think the viewers are comparing with their standards set to the ‘Fishing Village’ edition. I wanted to cast Seungwon and Haejin as well but they were both too busy.”
The factors like vicarious enjoyment is one of the reasons why ‘Three Meals a Day’ is seeing so much move even after numerous seasons of the show. But curiosity to see the changes in characters in the variety show that have been there throughout the years is also an important reason. Na Youngsuk said “Lee Seojin is learning more about the life in the country, making food and sharing and so on after seasons of ‘Three Meals a Day. When I see him during filming, he is definitely enjoying more than before.”
The first episode of the Marine Ranch edition of “Three Meals a Day” will be on air on August 4 at 9:40PM KST.
