IPL - Draft
Dead series... dead series everywhere...
Hey all! This is BP for the Season 5 blog which will hopefully last longer than season 4! I dont do intros so lets just go!
Pick 1 - Celesteela - Nasa
Celesteelia is an amazing steel type which can be both defensive and offensive, but will always have amazing bulk. With admittedly not the largest movepool, but still one that works well enough, Celesteelia can SubSeed, Clean, or simply and plainly wall or attack. Beat Boost makes this thing more bulky as the match ensues. Celesteelia’s type is another big bonus, as it is only weak to two types (electric and fire) and immune to two, too (poison and ground). I’m super duper excited to be playing around with ‘Steelia
Pick 2 - Sylveon - Synthesiax
Although Sylveon’s nerf meant it could have probably been picked Turn 3, I didn’t want to risk it, Sylveon’s bulk meant it was specified to be a partner to Celesteelia, and i had quite a few dragons I had my eye on. Sylveon is an amazing cleric who can hit hard, too. Her Pixilate makes Hyper Voice a deadly move, and its boosted by a total of 1.7, including STAB. What is greatest about Sylveon, though, is her ability to Wish Pass well to a lot of pokemon, crucial ones being Celesteela, Swampert, and Cofagrigus. I’m looking forward to welcoming Sylveon back onto the team.
Pick 3 - Kyurem-Black - Blarg
How Kyurem-B lasted this long will always be a mystery to me, but I’m so glad I picked it up. Not only does this cover Celesteela’s weakness to Electric, but this guy is a strong Dragon Type, which is a must-have for Draft Leagues. This Dragon Typing also finishes my incredible SDF core, which is equal parts bulky and offensive, so I’m so hyped to use this! Kyurem-Black has just the movepool it needs to hit just about everything. It can go fully Physical for incredible damage, Special to hit around more, or Mixed to annihilate any counters. Its extremely hard to beat this Pokemon without outspeeding it, and then its lowest stat is base 90, and that’s bulky. With its amazing offenses and an amazing typing to go with it, I’m very happy to have scored this Pokemon.
Pick 4 - Swampert - Lexaeus
Kingdom hearts nickname had to be somewhere, eh? I was looking at the roster and I thought I’d get some hazards first, and Swampert just seemed to work. An amazing bulky ground and a bulky water in one with the ability to be ran offensively, Swampert hits very hard, and just covered up any extra weaknesses I had. I love Swamperts bulk. Too, and it doesn’t add any weaknesses which i can’t handle, only grass, which can be taken by Kyurem-B and Celesteela. I’ve never tried Swampy in a Draft League, nor have I ever seen it used, to my knowledge, this should be fun!
Pick 5 - Hitmonlee - Sanji
I decided to go with my tier 4 stright away. I saw I was losing bulk and I had no spinner, so i thought I could add some offensive pressure, speed and hazard removal in one fell swoop. In hindsight, maybe it would have been better to go Decidueye to get a defogger and a grass type to help Swampert out, but I’m stuck with Hitmonlee now, but I plan to make the most of him! With some amazing power, and the ability to force a lot of switches to spin away rocks, on a bulky team like this, Hitmonlee comes in and really puts in work. Sure, ghosts are a problem, but I have the bulkiest ghost around!
Pick 6 - Cofagrigus - Isis
This is tumblr so i should disclaim this this is the EGYPTIAN FUCKING GOD NOT A TERRORIST. Although I can confirm, Cofagrigus is gonna inflict some serious terror. Arguably the best bulky ghost type in Draft Leagues, Cofagrigus has the ability to inflict some serious pain over time. With access to Will-O-Wisp, Hex, Shadow Ball, Toxic Spikes, and even some weirder ones like Calm mind, Iron Defense and Toxic, Cofagrigus really has a good movepool for a bulky ghost, and he blocks rapid spin as well, so i’m glad I got this Pokemon. I’m really looking forward to where I can go with this!
Pick 7 - Galvantula - Larxene
I couldn’t resist, also I couldn’t think of a better nickname. Galvantula really helps with my speed issue thanks to Sticky Webs, as well as giving me a fast electric type and some more offensive pressure, along with a Volt Switch user. The electric typing also helps against other flying types, who can prove a problem after Celesteela has been KO’d. Psychic types are also taken down easier with bug buzz. But the biggest thing is indeed the Webs, and i’m looking forward to it!
Pick 8 - Cryogonal - Vexen
Will there be an end to the Organisation XIII nicknames? No. I looked at my team and realized if I don't get another spinner soon, I could be in a bind. Cryogonal was fast, specially bulky with recover and could also still beat Water-Ground types well, which meant I didn’t have to bring HP Grass everything. Cryogonal was also a great speed tier, allowing me to pressure some more balanced and defensive teams, and with utility moves like Reflect and Light Screen, he was very much what I wanted, he also helped me with my ground weakness, which would really come out in my next pick:
Pick 9 - Nihlegio - DropPopCandy
AKA special Crucibelle. Nihlegio is great because not only does his speed tier get boosted by webs, but he gets a Moxie boost in anything that he chooses, which is normally Special Attack, but it doesn’t limit him, he can be a sweet special wall, and an amazing fairy check, which was quickly becoming a problem. But Nihlegio had the perfect Speed Tier and special attack, along with movepool to be a Pokemon worthy of my T1 pick. I’m excited to use him.
Pick 10 - Sharpedo-Mega - Arlong
I’m actually really proud of this choice. With two spinners and no defoggers, I desperately needed a Bulky Ghost check, otherwise they ran rampant against my team. Even though arguably I had the bulkiest ghost around in Cofagrigus, I didn’t want to risk my luck against a freak Dusclops/noir or Marowak-Alolan. Sharpedo-Mega also fit well with Galvantula, who helped out with Sticky Webs and Volt Switch. Thanks to the First Turn mega rule, Sharpedo plummeted in viability, but he still isn’t bad, with a Speed Tier of 105, and an incredible attack of 140 partnered with 105 special attack, I can already see Sharpedo do very well.
Pick 11 - Dodrio - Chopper
Although he was somewhat a rushed pick, I saw my severe lack of Set Up and noticed a problem. Dodrio also helped with my speed tier more, and with Swords Dance, Brave Bird, Jump Kick, Return, Knock Off and other moves, Dodrio can come in well and clean slower teams, especially as traditional bird answers can’t take too many Jump Kicks, and if they can they don’t respond well to knock offs. Offensively checking this thing may be easier, but if weakened enough and with webs working against the opponent, Dodrio can clean efficiently.
And thats it! I also suck with endings, bye!
