American Sepp Kuss won the 2023 Vuelta (Tour of Spain) despite attacks by teammates Jonas Vingegaard (left) and Primoz Roglic (right) who ended up 2nd and 3rd respectively. Vingegaard had already won the Tour de France this year and Roglic had won the Giro this year also. With teammates like that who needs rivals. Super teams implode due to infighting and the leaders depart for lesser teams that aren’t usually able to support them as well.
i am so happy the vuelta ends like this! i'm happy for sepp and i'm genuinely so proud of jonas and primoz. let us not forget the accolades they sacrificed to give sepp his win. no doubt that sepp earned this victory by riding so amazingly well in this vuelta, but there is also no doubt that jonas and primoz could have taken the red jersey if they had truly challenged sepp for it. primoz misses out on holding the record number of vuelta wins and jonas misses out on completing the tdf-vuelta double. there will be chances for them next year, of course, but it is a sacrifice and we should not forget that. but i think this will only add to their legends. history will write about them being great champions, not only on the bike but off the bike as well!
