Lavi hummed softly to herself as she brushed past the colorful curtains that acted as a makeshift door to her room in the subway car. The fabrics colorful and all hand stitched together, splattered with paint and embroiderer with stars and other constellations. It was a bright pop of color in contrast the otherwise more metallic blue hues of the lair.

The sea turtle had spent the otherwise chilly afternoon curled up nice and warm under her blankets, re watching her favorite movies for the hundredth time and doodling in her little sketchbook. However, an empty bowl of popcorn had sent her crawling out of her warm cocoon and into the slightly more chilly lair.

Bowl in hand she had her sights set on the kitchen, when something, or more so, someone, caught her eye. Casey, dressed in a hoodie much too large on him (One of Leos no doubt) and wrapped up in a colorful patchwork quilt(Which Lavi was fairly certain was hers but it was Casey so she could share), sat with his back to her on the couch. The TV was off so he clearly wasn't watching it, and he was hunched over at a slightly awkward angle.

She frowned a bit in concern, popcorn bowl abandoned on a nearby table as she made her way over to the slightly younger teen.

"Casey?" She called, meaning to reach out and touch a hand to his shoulder, only to jump back with a yelp as Casey let out a startled squeak of his own.

"Lavi!" He breathed in relief, shoulder immediately relaxing when he quickly turned and saw it was just the sea turtle. "You scared me!"

"Sorry!" Lavi couldn't help but let a slight giggle slip into her words "Ninja instincts I guess?"

She let her amusement fade into something more curious; leaning forward a bit to try and peer over his shoulder.

"What were you doing?"

"Hm? Oh!" The human teen angled his body so the turtle could see the book he held clutched in his hands. "I was just reading this book Raph recommended me."

"Ooooh!" Lavi Chirped, interest further piqued, she braced both her hands on the back of the couch, lifting herself a bit upwards so she could lean further forward.

"Whats it about?"

Casey gave a bit of a smile at the turtles antics and turned his body back so he could resume his previous position with the book held in his lap.

"Its about this little witch girl, shes trying to find her magical calling, its like a coming of age sort of thing."

Lavi let out a hum to let Casey know she was still listening, for a moment the two of them stayed in silence. Lavis movie and bowl of popcorn momentarily forgotten for the sake of spending time with Casey.

After a second however, Lavis arms started to get a bit tired from holding herself up over the back of the couch so she shifted forward a bit to get more comfortable, as she did however, the tail ends of her mask moved forward and brushed gently over the shell of Casey's ear.

The teen let out a loud squeak, shoulders immediately hunching up to his ears as Lavi froze. They sat in silence for just a split second before a little grin started to pull at the corners of the turtles mouth, her little tail starting to wag behind her.

"Casey? What was that?" She asked, laughter in her voice as her eyes sparkled. The human let out a low groan as he brought the book up to cover his face.

"Nuthin..."He grumbled, voice muffled by the book.

"Nuh-Uh!" She giggled, swooping forward so that her masks tassels brushed against his ears again drawing out another squeak and the beginning a bright red flush starting to creep up the back of his neck.

"That totally was something!"

"Lahehvi!" Casey huffed, trying to scooch himself forward and away from the turtle. "Cuhut it out!"

Lavis smile couldn't get any wider as she laid her upper body over the back of the couch in order to free up her hands, wiggiling her fingers carefully in between Casey's shoulders in order to reach his ears, drawing out a new kind of laughter from him; one that was more squeaky and high pitched then his usual laugh.

Lavis eyes were practically sparkling, she let out a squeal of pure delight.

"Casey! You have ticklish ears!? That's so cute!"

Casey hiccuped softly, book abandoned on his lap as he reached up with a hand to try and gently batter Lavis fingers away.

"Ehehe! L-Lavi! Stohohohp! Its not funhehehey!"

The turtle giggled, sneaking her fingers under Casey's chin making him outright squeal.

"If its not funny then why are you laughing silly?"

After one last bout of giggles Casey finally managed to gain enough control that he was able to duck and roll himself onto the far side of the couch and away from the mischievous sea turtle. He lay there red faced for a moment, trying to rid out the residual giggles still caught in his throat.

Still hanging over the back of the couch, Lavi looked absolutely delighted; giggling to herself as she flapped her hands in front her her.

"Awwww! Ive never heard you laugh like that before Case! That was adorable!"

Face still flushed red; Casey sat up with a grumble, crossing his arms over his chest.

"M'Not adorable." He huffed, trying to put on a stern face just like his Sensei taught him, but the effect was dampened by his messy hair and still flushed face. It only served to make Lavi giggle.

"Yes you are!" She chirped, giggling again when Casey just chose to scowl at her in response. She met his scowl with a smile of her own, holding up her hands and making her fingers into claws.

"Aww come on Casey, where did they smile go?" She teased, smile widening when she immediately saw the way Casey had to fight to keep a smile off his face.

She let out a sudden gasp, "There! I think I saw one! It was righttttt here!"

She lunged forward suddenly, poking rabidly all over Casey stomach, causing the teen to yelp and fall back into squeaky laughter.

"Lahehevi!"

Said turtle grinned, "Yesssss?"

The human didn't give her any more of a response, falling back onto the couch and attempting to curl up onto his side to try and shield his stomach from the turtles barrage of pokes. This of course only served to backfire as she simply just switch to poking up and down his side.

"Boop! Boop Boop Boop! I think I find your giggle button Casey!"

Casey, much to his own embarrassment and Lavis delight, let out a snort, Lavi snickered.

"Woops! Guess that was your snort button instead!"

"VehehEHEHE! Pleasehehehese!"

The turtle giggled, finally pulling her hands away.

"Okay! Okay, I'm done I promise!"

She stayed with her elbows propped up on the back of the couch, sitting back and watching as the human rolled back over onto his back, covering his face with his arms as he hiccuped with leftover giggles.

Lavi smile softened a bit, it was always nice to see Casey let lose and act like an actual kid. She knew he had, and was still having, a hard time adjusting to everything. And she was glad that she could help even just a little with that, even if she wasn't the same Lavi he has known in the past...or well...future in her case.

After a second, the teen let out a low groan, the skin peaking out from where he was hidden within his arms flushed a dark red. Lavi reached out and gently poked his elbow.

"Are you still alive in there Casey?"

Casey pulled away the arm covering his face to fix her with a mock glare; "I would start running if I were you."

Lavi let out a little amused scoff, "I'm not scared of you."

Casey rose a brow, "Oh yeah?" He grinned, before suddenly he lunged forward and snagged Lavi around the wrist, dragging her over the back of the couch and onto his chest with a yelp of surprise.

With a triumphant laugh Casey immediately wrapped his arms around the turtle in a sort of hug, his fingers hooking onto the sides of her shell and wiggling gently. Immediately the older turtle was thrown into a fit of chirping giggles, her legs kicking out wildly behind her as she flailed.

"N-Nohohohoho! Cashehehehey!"

"You brought this upon yourself!' Casey laughed, thankful for his training which allowed him the strength to keep the squirming turtle trapped in the tickly hug.

She let out a loud squeal when his fingers traveled up to wiggle into the hallows of her underarms, fighting between the urge to scrim away form the tickly sensations and wanting to melt into the nice warm hug.

"Pleasehehehse! MERCHEHEHEHY!"

Casey grinned downright evilly, channeling his inner Leonardo; "Mercy? I don't know the meaning of the word!"

"Oh? Is that so~?"

Ah, speak of the devil and he shall appear-

Both parties froze at the sudden drawl of a new voice, looking up, both having to crane their necks to see, and spotting Leo leaning over them both, arms held behind his back. His beak quirked up in a smirk.

"Leheheo!" Lavi giggled, breathless from laughter and for once looking relieved to see her little shit of a younger brother. "Hehehelp!"

Casey however looked far less relieved, lips quirking up in a nervous grin, any confidence he had previously seemingly having vanished without a trace at the sight of the other blue masked turtle.

"Oh, heh, heeeey Leonardo."

The turtles grin widened even further. "Wooow Case, bullying my sister are you? In her own home? For shame, I really thought you were better then that."

"I-" Casey sputtered. "She...She started it!"

"Ohhh and now your blaming her?" He cracked his knuckles dramatically. "Don't worry Vee, your amazing brother Leo is here to avenge you."

"WaIT-" Casey managed to squeak out, trying to squirm out from under Lavi who, grinning like the cat that got the canary, was now using her weight to keep him trapped there.

"Leo, Leo dont-Lavi, Lavi call him off-Leo LEO-!"

Lavis popcorn bowl would be left forgotten on the table for just a little while longer it seemed.

Chapter 3

First glimpse of the jungle

You smile as the two of you walk in the airport, walking outside and deciding to explore town for awhile before going to the rented house you will be staying in. You smile as you take a picture of all the umbrellas above you before you and Damian try street food which earned many different reactions from both of you, mostly enjoying the flavors and unique choices before grabbing a car from a rental place and driving to the house in the jungle, you look in awe as lean out the window feeling the breeze blow by until the two of you made it to the house and walked in immediately loving the view of the jungle around and below you before going in, unpacking, settling in before eating and spending the night inside since you both were jetlagged and tired from the flight and all the exploring in town earlier, you fall asleep in bed while damian showers and he joins you after drying off and putting boxers on, wrapping you in his arms as the only sounds that could be heard was the birds in the jungle and the wind lightly blowing outside throughout the night. The two of you wake up and have breakfast in bed together before you both decide to get ready and walk the trail in the jungle with a hiker who's traveled the trail you're going to be taking, you check your packs having extra water and a little bit of food before locking the house and waiting for the hiker who you officially meet after walking down the stairs learning her name was Laviana, the two of you look around in awe while following lavi on the trail occasionally stopping to take pictures and enjoying the serene and noises of the jungle until you stopped for a break before walking back to the house planning on walking the trail again the next day but without lavi remembering the purple ties you placed on trees where you stopped and took breaks knowing that you would be okay as long as you saw the ties and kept to the trail not knowing the plans in store to happen the next day.

Doing quests. Decided to go after Cassia first, because Lavinia's first instinct would be to want to replace the person navigating through the warp. And it's for this reason that she'll be going after Pasqual next.

But yeah, we're working on trying to find Cassia and I was told to build the "key." Ok, got it. Got everything I needed, too. ...and then I couldn't figure out how to open the big door in the main area.

And it was obvious that Something Needed To Be Triggered, but I was missing what it was. And I tried reading a guide, and it wasn't making sense yesterday, and then I was too tired so I went to bed early.

Tried today, and it still took a few tries before... I found out that I somehow completely missed the doors in that one hallway.

I felt so phenomenally dumb when I realized that was what the problem was. I have the game set to Story Mode, so it's not supposed to be difficult.

This, yet again, reflects something that I feel might be the most frustrating part of the gameplay for me so far. My cursor was just... not where it needed for me to see the door outline. But it will teach me that when I'm trying to find things, I should frequently rotate the camera so I can pass the cursor over everything, just in case.

As for actual story, LOL at Idira being worried about Cassia. You know shit's wack when the psyker is like "...ummm, you sure about her, boss?"

Hard to have an opinion on Cassia yet, but I do like my first impressions. Laviana convinced Cassia to come along of her own free will.

Idira is still my boo.

Navona and Armony think that I should always have Abelard in the party so Lavinia can be like "Abelard, introduce me."

Photo Series Critique

I will be analyzing and critiquing ‘Beauty Warriors” by Evija Laivina. A photo-series that highlights “featuring strange and unusual-looking beauty products”. All of these beauty products were bought on ebay, are very cheap and have questionable results. Yet overall they highlight the way that people have been manipulated into trying everything and anything to improve their physical appearance.

The first thing I notice about these products is how intensive many of them are, although none are drastically harmful, the way in which they hope to shape your face could in some ways be described as mutilation, given they are designed to stretch your muscles and leave them manipulated and damaged. Take the “Smile trainer" for example, it stretches your cheeks and jaw outwards and holds them in place in the hopes that your body heals around it .This is a physical and real embodiment of ‘beauty standards’ being harmful.

The next thing I wonder is, do these products even work? Take for example the “Anti-double chin bandage”. By the looks of things it holds your skin in place against your chin. I am not well educated in biology but to my understanding that is not how fat and skin works. You can just hold it in position and hope it stays there after you take the bandage off, it will return to its original and natural position in due time, if not quickly.

I think only choosing cheap products on Ebay helps this narrative for these reasons. Half of them have questionable functionality, and the ones that look like they do work do it by damaging your skin and muscles. Yet despite this, they clearly have a market of desperate people, who have been conditioned to believe they need to buy this product and go to extreme lengths to achieve their beauty goals. It highlights a system that profits from peoples insecurities.

However, I do wonder why Evija chose some of these products as they don’t seem to fit in with the rest. For example I see no real reason why a “color therapy mask” or “ear protectors” could be seen as either problematic or a beauty product at all. Sure, they are still cheap and likely non-functional, but I don’t see how they fit in with the rest of her work.

Looking into the actual photography, I admire the ability to remain consistent throughout the series while implementing drastically different colors and styles. Usually when photographers want to make their photos consistent they stick to color palettes or precise formatting. Evija’s consistency however comes more from the atmosphere created. Her colors and backdrops change but all utilize contrast, lighting and subject matter in a similar way.

Her subject is positioned and framed similarly, and the beauty products all carry a similar cheap and plastic vibe. The images are different but the atmosphere is the same. I think if I were to change one thing it would be consistent in the lighting. As some of these images have vignettes created with the lighting and others don't. I personally feel like the flat color lighting looks alot better.

This photo series overall showcases the ridiculous lengths people have pushed to by insecurities the beauty industry have created. It shows how people profit off of victims to the “looks-maxing rabbit hole”. Yet I feel like some images don’t show this as well as others, with some of the products not fitting the criteria of ‘useless or dangerous’ that I feel like is important for this kind of message.

As Evija Laviana says in her introduction to this piece, “To be successful, you must be perfect and look perfect—these are our society’s rules, which we all follow without even realising how ridiculous the standards are. We often forget about the importance of inner beauty”. I will be thinking about this idea as i make my own project around the portrayal of beauty and the desperation for perfection.

*NUEVE CONSEJOS PARA LOS MILITANTES DE Izquierda de Frei Betto, Teólogo de la Liberación.*

*Yo diría que militantes de izquierda, somos todos aquellos que sin llamarnos izquierdistas creemos en el proyecto de un mundo mejor, de solidaridad con los oprimidos, y de lucha por la imposición de la justicia social.*

*1. Mantenga viva la indignación.*

_*Verifique periódicamente si usted es de Izquierda. Adopte el criterio de Norberto Bobbio: para la derecha la desigualdad social es tan natural como la diferencia entre el día y la noche. La Izquierda, en cambio, la considera una aberración que debe ser erradicada. Atención: Usted puede estar contaminado por el virus socialdemócrata cuyos principales síntomas son usar métodos de derecha para obtener conquistas de Izquierda y, en caso de conflicto, agraviar a los pequeños para no quedar mal con los grandes.*_

*2. La cabeza piensa donde pisan los pies.*

_*No se puede ser de Izquierda sin "ensuciarse" los zapatos donde el pueblo vive, sufre, se alegra y celebra sus creencias y sus victorias. Teoría sin práctica es hacerle el juego a la derecha.*_

*3. No se avergüence de creer en el socialismo.*

_*El escándalo de la Inquisición no hizo que los cristianos abandonaran los valores y propuestas del Evangelio.*_ _*Igualmente, el fracaso del socialismo en Europa del Este no debe inducir a descartar el socialismo del horizonte de la historia humana. El capitalismo, vigente hace 200 años, ha sido un fracaso para la mayoría de la población del mundo. Hoy día somos 6 mil millones de habitantes. Según el Banco Mundial, 2 mil 800 millones sobreviven con menos de 2 dólares al día; y 1 mil 200 millones con menos de 1 dólar diario. La globalización de la miseria no es todavía mayor gracias al socialismo chino que -a pesar de sus errores- asegura alimentación, salud y educación a 1 mil 200 millones de personas.*_

*4. Sea crítico sin perder la autocrítica.*

_*Muchos militantes de Izquierda cambian de lado cuando pierden la perspectiva.*_ _*Desplazados del poder se vuelven amargos y acusan a sus compañeros(as) de errores y vacilaciones. Como dijo Jesús, ven la paja en el ojo ajeno y no la viga en el propio. No se esfuerzan por mejorar las cosas. Se convierten en meros espectadores y jueces y, al poco tiempo, son cooptados por el sistema.*_

_*Autocrítica es no solamente admitir los propios errores. Es aceptar la crítica de los(as) compañeros(as).*_

*5. Conozca la diferencia entre militante y "militonto".*

_*"Militonto" es aquél que se jacta de estar en todo, de participar en todos los eventos y movimientos, de actuar en todos los frentes. Su lenguaje está repleto de lugares comunes y consignas y los efectos de su accionar son superficiales.*_

_*El militante profundiza sus vínculos con el pueblo, estudia, piensa, medita, se califica en una determinada forma y área de actuación o actividad, valoriza los vínculos orgánicos y los proyectos comunitarios.*_

*6. Sea riguroso en la ética de la militancia.*

_*La Izquierda actúa por principios. La derecha, por intereses. Un militante de Izquierda puede perder todo –la libertad, el empleo, la vida- menos la moral. Al desmoralizarse, desmoraliza la causa que defiende y encarna. Presta un inestimable servicio a la derecha.*_

_*Hay sinvergüenzas disfrazados de militantes de Izquierda. Se trata de sujetos que piensan, en primer lugar, en su ascenso al poder. En nombre de una causa colectiva, buscan primero su interés personal.*_

_*El verdadero militante - como Jesús ,Camilo Torres , Gaspar Garcia Laviana , Che Guevara - es un servidor, dispuesto a dar la propia vida para que otros vivan. No se siente humillado por no estar en el poder, ni orgulloso de su posición. El no se confunde con la función que cumple.*_

*7. Aliméntese con la tradición de Izquierda.*

_*La oración es necesaria para cultivar la fe, el cariño para nutrir el amor de pareja, "volver a las fuentes" es necesario para mantener el ardor de la mística de la militancia. Conozca la historia de la Izquierda, lea (auto) biografías como "El diario del Che en Bolivia" o novelas como "La madre" de Gorki o "Viñas de la ira" de Steinbeck.*_

*8. Prefiera el riesgo de errar con los pobres a tener la pretensión de acertar sin ellos.*

_*Convivir con los pobres no es fácil. Primero, existe la tendencia a idealizarlos. Después se descubre que entre ellos existen los mismos vicios que hay en otras clases sociales. No son mejores ni peores que los demás seres humanos. La diferencia es que son pobres, o sea, personas privadas injusta e involuntariamente de los bienes esenciales para una vida digna. Por eso estamos del lado de ellos. Por una cuestión de justicia. Un militante de Izquierda jamás transa los derechos de los pobres y sabe aprender de ellos.*_

*9. Defienda siempre al oprimido aunque aparentemente no tenga la razón.*

_*Son tantos los sufrimientos de los pobres del mundo que no se puede esperar de ellos actitudes que no siempre aparecen en la vida de los que tuvieron una educación refinada.*_
