 My last Valentine’s Day is hard to top. It was perfect—a perfect storm, that is.

 My high school sweetheart and I had been engaged forfive years when we finally decided to tie the knot last February. We planned to whisk an intimate group of our families and very best friends away for a romantic whirlwind in DESTINATION X.The invitations had long since been posted, my mother’s wedding dress refitted, flights booked.

Well, the proof was in the Pukkah shells, as they say.

Apparently to my sweetheart, “‘til death do us part” meant “til, the tarmac at SD Int’l Airport.” That’s right, cold feet. It was winter in San Diego, after all.

 Our vacation was non-refundable, so I went anyway.Thank god I have the most supportive family a girl could ask for—they came with me and helped me recover (still am).

 It was my big brother who encouraged me to get online and date the pain away. Up until now, my playing the field has felt more like sitting on the bench.But, tonight’s the big night. After 2 months of correspondence with Joe, I’m going on a date, my first since the V-Day Debacle of 2014.

 These days, I’m feeling a little green, but I’m still shopping to buy. This guy seems solid—smart, funny, confident with the right amount of self-deprecation and ready to settle down. Hemight beworth the risk, but a girl’s got to be smart these days.I don’t leave self-defense up to chance. That’s why I’m taking my best friend with me, my Ruger LCP, fitted snuggly in my DeSantis holster.

 When I’m getting ready, my outfit isn’t complete without my DeSantis Thigh Hide. Slipping on the soft neoprene garter, makes the butterflies subside a bit. I can go anywhere, go protected, and most importantly, go stylish—the Thigh Hide is perfectly concealed under my favorite little white dress/floor length stunner/ knee length tailored dress. Really though, it goes with everything.And best of all, it’s my little secret.

 I take one last look in the mirror before I’m out the door. Phone, check. Lipstick, check. Firearm, check. Here we go…

 But hey—If tonight isn’t happily ever after, at least I’ve got a companion I can trust in DeSantis. That’s the love of a lifetime.
