How To Use Sheet Masks

Sheet masks are a part of self care, guys. They make you feel better after bad days, they help your skin glow, they make awesome sleep over activities with friends. 

Not all sheet masks are alike, and there are many different kinds for different skin issues. I find I like sheet masks best when they are anti aging or hydrating because those make your skin smooth and glowy afterwards but some are also exfoliating and pore tightening. My favorite sheet mask brand is Leaders which you can get at Ulta or online. I also love Mizon because they’re around $3 each and getting sheet masks from the korean curated website Soko Glam. 

Sheet masks come saturated in a liquid and a good sheet mask isn’t too dry because you want the most bang for your dollar, more liquid means more goodness. The liquid is full of good, skin loving ingredients. The liquid that sheet masks come saturated in will be an essence, a serum or an ampoule. 

An essence water light or slightly thicker than water substance that’s full of good stuff. If your sheet mask feels really wet it’s most like an essence. It penetrates into the skin quickly and doesn’t leave a film behind. These tend to be the cheaper sheet masks, usually under a few dollars. I find these are good quick fixes, if your skin is dry and you throw on a hydrating essence sheet mask it’s like having a glass of water for your skin. If you want long term results you’ll have to use these often. Sheet masks also come saturated in serums which will feel thicker, more of a sticky consistency. Serums are more nutrient dense than essence. Serums contain a higher concentration of effective ingredients. Sheet masks with serums are a little pricier and can range from $5-15 or more expensive if it’s a serum from a luxury brand. An ampoule is basically a serum with no water making everything in the liquid pure goodness. They usually come sealed beaker looking tubes and once you open it you have to use it right away. Pure nutrients and the main ingredients. These sheet masks also tend to be on the pricier side as they will have more immediate and long lasting results. Ampoule sheet masks like Leaders First Ampoule Masks are great and not overly expensive, they’re currently buy one get one free here until 2/21!

Okay so you’ve chosen your sheet mask... what’s next?

When applying your sheet mask you want it to be one of the last steps in your skin care routine... after toner and serum but before moisturizer. Depending on how moisturizing and concentrated your sheet mask is, you might not even need a moisturizer! Essence and serum cannot penetrate through moisturizer, so save sheet masks for second to last!

Once your sheet mask is applied you wait about 10-20 minutes for the essence/serum to absorb and then flip the mask over and use the other side because that side will still have excess liquid, basically getting two uses from one one sheet mask. 

Once your sheet mask is mostly dry, rub the excess liquid on your hands, arms, neck, chest. I mostly just do the chest and hands because those age just like the skin on your face, so don’t neglect them and don’t waste the serum! Massage the serum/essence into your skin so it doesn’t just sit on top of the skin. You could even give yourself a mini facial massage for anti wrinkle/anti aging muscle stimulation and draining of the lymph nodes for a slimmer face appearance like this one here. 

Then repeat this process once or twice a week for good skin health! Can be done during Netflix binge session and with a glass of wine.

Friday & I seem to have spent most of the week stressing where to get toilet paper and food from. I rely on home deliveries being housebound for over 9yrs and getting a delivery is nigh on impossible at the moment! It's making me anxious and causing unnecessary stress. I wish people would just buy what they need and there'd be none of this worry. Anyway, I digress. ⁣ ⁣ I don't know about you guys but I'm definitely in the need of some self-care right now to unwind and calm my nerves and I do love a @leaders_europe @leadersusa sheet mask. This one was in February's @masktimeuk box. 😀⁣ ⁣ 𝐒𝐊𝐈𝐍 𝐓𝐘𝐏𝐄⁣ Normal to dry with some dry flaky patches. It's also being a little sensitive right now & I have a couple of blemishes, no doubt caused by the stress.⁣ ⁣ 𝐓𝐇𝐄 𝐌𝐀𝐒𝐊⁣ The mask had plenty of essence. No overpowering scent, fitted really well and didn't dry out too quickly.⁣ ⁣ 𝐑𝐄𝐒𝐔𝐋𝐓𝐒⁣ Really liked this mask a lot. My skin tends to be dull and I do feel like this mask left my face brighter and gave it some glow.
