Hallow’s End CYOA - Prompt 2
The Scarecrow man had been quite clear with his instructions. The party was taking place at a large house not far away from the limits of Old Town in a large, beautiful plot of land. “You will find yourself surprised!” had said that weird… human?. He didn’t know if the man was even alive, to begin with. On his way to this location, Stauros had seen many of the denizens of the white city prancing around in elaborate costumes, carrying pumpkins and trays of food to their private parties or laughing as they made their way to the parks and plazas of the city, where those that didn’t want to spend the night on their homes came out to celebrate with others that thought like them. It surprised him to see some of his own race partaking in these traditions, these celebrations. A couple of draenei women walked past him, one dressed as a human witch and the other one dressed as a murloc. He chuckled at that. The arcanist used to forget that the rest of his people had arrived to Azeroth many, many years before him, and that they had made the celebrations of this world their own. Pumpkins carved with toothy grins and large candles placed on dark columns lit the path next to the canals, where the calm waters reflected the light that came from the many decorations, including strings that went from building to building over the canals with beautiful lamps hanging from them. As much as he despised humans and their antics, he had to admit that when they wanted to, they knew how to set up the mood for a celebration.
Finally, he managed to get to the house where the party was being held at. A large field laid in front of an old, big and beautiful house, clearly of someone with quite some wealth to their name. The path towards it was lined with tall, thick trees with dark leaves that threw a creepy shade on the cobblestone path. He saw a few couples walking behind the trees, enjoying the privacy of the shadows. A few of them took a confused and impressed look at him as he made his way up the fields up to the house, and it was easy to see why: He was a walking nightmare. His skin had dried and fallen almost entirely off, revealing cracked bone with old demonic carvings. Thorny vines grew from his eye sockets and coiled around his large antler-like horns, where dark spiders had made a sickening nest. His former obsidian mane was light grey and looked and moved like the hair of those who had been dead under the water for too long. Two lilac orbs of fire served as eyes and gave his skull an eerie look. His robes were as elegant as always, detailed, gorgeous, thick, heavily layered, peppered with gems and crystals… but they looked old and ragged. Like the remains of an emperor’s garments after he lost his empire to a great war. The dull colored crystals reflected the light of the moon over his robes, making them look almost ethereal. His clawed, skeletal hands still had some strings of flesh and muscle keeping them together, and his long bone-y tail swayed behind him. “Who goes there?” said a deep voice when he was walking up the stairs to the large carved wooden door. From the shadows behind a stone column a large man appeared. He was wearing a black mask that shadowed his eyes and barely let Stauros see his mouth, black leathr boots and dark trousers. He was muscled and quite attractive, if the lightforged was being honest. His desire to know more about this human would have to wait though. “I’m Stauros. A man dressed as a scarecrow spoke to me a while ago and told me about… well, this” The mage gestured towards the building, at which the human nodded and grinned at him. “You’re looking for the Asheton Hallow’s End party.”. He raised his large, imposing axe and hit the floor twice with the lower part of it. With a groan, the large door opened before him. “Go ahead”. As usual, Stauros hit his horns with the first hanging lamp on the receiving corridor. The house was exquisite in its details and it was clearly of a noble family. Probably an old one, he though when he noticed the several paintings of humans at different stages of life. “Woah dude, cool costume!” said a man dressed as a pirate who was walking on his direction with a young night elf on his hand. He nodded and followed the voices and the music and the lights until he got to a huge hall filled with people and gorgeous decorations. There were musicians sitting on the end of the room over a stone dais, playing hauntingly beautiful music. Several couples were dancing in the middle of the room, enthralled by the melody as many others watched them dance. Tables filled with food were placed at the sides of the giant room and after looking around for a bit, he saw many ‘stations’ with games and activities around the place. “You checking out everyone else’s heads?”. A raspy and cheerful voice said next to him. He looked to his right and found a night elf woman with light blue skin and intense grin hair staring up at him with a large grin on her face. She was dressed like a cheap version of king Anduin, which made him chuckle for a moment. “I was figuring out what you’re suppoused to do at these events”. He tilted his head, inspecting the large room. “I’m quite new at this, you know. This is my first Hallow’s End”. He grinned awkwardly thanks to his lack of lips. “Oh, let me show you then!” She said as she took hold of his hand and quickly dragged him through the crowd, taking him all over the place. In a corner of the place, she made him try out at least twenty kinds of different sweets and candies, most of which made him grimace in horror at the awful taste of it. There was a specific one that he swore he would burn every single piece of it if he saw it again. A disgusting piece of hell she called ‘Candy Corn’. The next stage was in a room adjacent to the main one, where a fat, old woman dressed in weird silks and wearing a thousand necklaces was reading the fortune to those who paid the price. He was skeptic of this, but his companion dragged him down to her. The old woman began to move her hands around an old crystal ball and told the night elf some dumb ass thing about she finding her true love in a near future. Then, it was Stauros’ turn. She began to move her hands again around the crystal ball, but… she frowned and stared more and more into it. The woman lost her cocky grin and began to take turns staring at Stauros and then her ball. He was looking straight into her eyes with hiw two fiery balls, and when she kept on staring him without even blinking, the crystal ball suddenly cracked and fell apart in several pieces. The old woman screamed. “Ok. That was funny. But you shouldn’t have done that, dude!” she said as they made their way out of the room, with the muffled sound of a woman crying behind them. “She’s just doing a little act, no one believes in stuff like that!”. “Oh, I know, but it scared her. Isn’t that the purpose of this night? Scare people?” He asked as they walked past a table filled with pumpkin themed plates of food. He picked up a few small pies before joining the elf again. “Well… yes and no. You get to scare people, but that was cruel, man. Not cool”. The shoulderpads she was wearing were just about to come off. They were clearly too big for her, and now that he noticed this, he thought that maybe this wasn’t her original idea for a costume. She dragged him to something he had been dreading since he stepped inside the room back when he had arrived. A large wooden container filled with water and apples. Stauros stopped and gave her a ‘I’m not putting my mouth in there’ look. But then, she followed with a ‘You do it or I’ll make you do it’ look and somehow he knew deep inside that she would actually manage to do it. He was disgusted. Not only he had actually caught an apple with his mouth, but another one had stuck inside one of his eye sockets, gaining a roaring laugh from the night elf, who was hunching over herself as she cackled her heart away. He was not amused. But he was glad he had managed to make her laugh like that. - “You know, my boyfriend and I were there a while ago” he said as he munched on one of the pies. They were sitting on a bench outside of the house, overlooking the gorgeous mountains behind the city as the moonlight shone on them. “I didn’t expected it to be so stupidly big. But… I didn’t knew what I was expecting either. It’s a titan’s sword after all.” She shrugged and drank more of her pumpkin juice. “I don’t have any plans of going there myself. Too much drama. Too much pain. I already have enough as it is, y’know?. With all of us losing our home and… yeah…” She sighed. Teldrassil was still a sore wound to most night elves. Letting her green hair loose, she rested her back on the bench and looked up at the moon and the stars. “Do you believe in gods, Stauros?”. “No. I’ve seen too much pain, too much suffering, too much power to believe in gods.” He chugged some wine and sighed. “There are beings out there that have inmense amounts of power, yes, but that doesn’t mean we should be praising them or blindly following them. Like the naaru, for example. They can travel through the dimensions, they hold power over the light, they are basically immortal… but we still should not treat them as superior beings.” He sighed. “I’ve thought the same, for example, about your wild gods. And, forgive me for this, Elune”. This made her eyebrows rise. “Well… that’s one hot opinion for a light dude like you.” A snicker came out of her mouth. “Never met one of you guys who wasn’t all hot for the light and those giant windchimes.” Stauros chuckled at this. “ And well, Elune has always granted us her blessings but many of my people are doubting her since Teldrassil. Not her existence, since we have actually communicated with hr before, but her actions, or rather, the lack of”. “I see.” This was something he had not talked about much, since it was quite the sore topic for most night elves. It was refreshing to find someone with who he could talk like this, without fear of being shunned away because of his views. “Well. You know now my views regarding our ‘deities’. And if you can, try to keep them to yourself. Not many of my ‘brothers’ and ‘sisters’ appreciate one of them talking shit about the naaru”. Both of them laughed at this, shaking their heads and chuckling a bit after that as well. “Hey, can I ask you something?” “Sure. Shoot.” He said, munching on another pie. “I live a bit away from here and even though I’m strong and powerful and stuff, I’d rather not walk all the way home alone at this hour… in this specific day. Lots of drunk guys out there”. She wasn’t looking at him when she said this, only staring into the forest in front of them. “It will be my pleasure”. A soft smile spread on his bone-y factions and the mage offered his skeletal hand to her. “Show me the way”. - Walk Them Home

Stampede 2019: 5 Idea’s to take your corporate event from whoa to Yahoo!!!
Stampede 2019: 5 Idea’s to take your corporate event from whoa to Yahoo!!!
Believe it or not it’s almost Stampede time! Yay! Each year The Greatest Show on Earth, takes over our city and we all don our cowboy hats to network, mingle and show off our country roots.
Corporate stampede events are some of my favorites! They’re always designed around fun and are full of amazing energy. The downside, though, is they all tend to follow the same formula: Beer + Cowboy Boots + Country Music and on to the next. Variety isn’t exactly our strong suit but that doesn’t mean there aren’t ways to set your event apart with some creative touches.
Here are five of my favorite Stampede embellishments to help take your annual Stampede ho down from whoah to Yahoo!
Custom Give-Aways How many metal bottle openers and beer mugs have you collected over the years? If you’re anything like me, too many! Give your guests something memorable instead. One of my favorites is Kat Marks Designs. This local artist creates bespoke leather corporate gifts that can incorporate your branding into gifts that everyone will love!
  From the simple Bolo tie
To leather beer holsters & bottle openers.
Checkout the Leathr bar website for so many more idea’s. There is something for everyone! https://lethrbar.com/welcome
Custom Cocktails Beer may still be the undisputed king of Stampede bevy’s but there’s still room to make your mark at the bar. Craft beer and ciders are a nice subtle departure from the norm while custom cocktails always elevate the prestige of an event while offering a welcome alternative to the drink menus everywhere else.A perfect example of an out of the ordinary drink option is this Cotton Candy cocktail from our friends at Lynn Fletcher Weddings. It’s such a unique and memorable option that tastes amazing! And, really, who doesn’t love a bag of cotton candy on the midway?

Leave the hay (bales) to the horses I’ve talked in the past about the value an event designer or décor house can bring to an event and if you’re really wanting to make an amazing first impression without being cliché, this is how it’s done. Our go-to for a chic twist on a Stampede classic is always the team at One West Event Design. It really is amazing what can be done with a little focused imagination.

Live entertainment The entertainment alone can make or break any event but that doesn’t always have to mean DJ’s and cover bands. There is some exceptional Canadian talent that is absolutely worth considering before falling back on the old stand-by’s.For instance I was recently introduced to an all girl band who knocked my socks off – Called Nice Horse. They are beyond talented and, mark my words, they will be big some day!

Location. Location. It’s true, Stampede venues can sometimes book up a year in advance but there are still options that won’t relegate you to a dodgy bar in the middle of nowhere. For example, what could be better than hosting right on the grounds? There are numerous options to consider right in the middle of all the action including a Palm Bay Patio at the iconic Nashville North https://www.calgarystampede.com/stampede/music/nashville-northOr the new Big four Roadhouse – which offers live music, food and even games for corporate events. https://www.calgarystampede.com/big-four-roadhouse
There’s still time to stand out! These are just a few of our favorite out of the box ideas but if you’re still looking to make a bigger bang at this year’s event, there’s always so much more where these came from. Contact Jennifer at [email protected] to your stampede event to the next level.
