Lens flare and intentional camera movement with the Thingyfy Pinhole Pro S, 03 July 2023
This afternoon, just before the ‘golden hour’ I went out with the Olympus Pen E-PL2 and the Thingyfy Pinhole Pro S pinhole lens. The idea was to try some intentional camera movement (ICM), but I ended up pointing the lens towards the sun.

how would u define indie sleaze style??
Daniel Rodgers of Dazed magazine described it as "grubby, maximalist, and performatively vintage" and NME's El Hunt defined it as being defined by a sense of "chaotic spontaneity". It draws inspiration from 1980s fashion and grunge fashion, as well as mixing elements from twee, scene, and electropop.
Per Wikipedia, “[indie sleaze] clothes including metallic bodysuits, studded "Lita" boots manufactured by shoe company Jeffrey Campbell, lamé leggings, chokers, shutter shades, ballet flats, chunky gold jewelry, striped shirts, lensless glasses, sheer tops, big belts, plaid pants, cardigans, A-line skirts, tennis skirts, high-top Converse sneakers, long or layered necklaces, cropped leather jackets, fedoras, the Balenciaga Motorcycle Bag, stockings with shorts, wired headphones, band T-shirts, and skinny jeans, as well as other elements such as galaxy prints, "Aztec" prints, side-swept bangs, “waif-thin" bodies, “recession roots", smudged eyeliner and mascara, amateur flash photography, torn clothing, Polaroid cameras, cigarettes, and drug use have all been listed as hallmarks of indie sleaze. American Apparel was influential on the development of indie sleaze.”

SOLARGRAPHY
Tumblr media
Solarigrafia, solarigraphy, solargraphy is a photographic method for recording the paths of the Sun. Solargraphy is the art of pinhole photography and a part of Space Art, too.
Tumblr media
Solarigraphics or solargraphs are pinhole photographs taken with a lensless pinhole camera with a long exposure. By doing so the invisible movements of the Sun can be made visible in landscapes.

Darren Glass.
Darren Glass's photographic creations emerge from a unique blend of meticulously controlled experimentation and purposeful incorporation of serendipity. Since 1990, he has engineered a diverse range of cameras, ranging from his camera Frisbees, which capture images while soaring through the air, to static sculptural devices meticulously designed to capture multiple perspectives of stream banks. His lensless imaging contraptions offer us an unusually elemental form of photography. In his own words, he explains, "Much like the early photographers who transported immense glass negatives in wagon-darkrooms, striving for unparalleled resolution, I've crafted cameras that are substantial, unwieldy, and often intended for documenting distant and picturesque landscapes. I like to envision that the art of experimental camera design, initiated by 19th-century photography pioneers, is still in its early stages.

New "Camera" Has No Lens, Simply Detects Your Location and Generates an AI Picture of It
Susan Sontag's Worst Nightmare
If you haven't heard, Instagram is over — and with it, apparently, is the concept of a camera itself. Meet Paragraphica, a lensless "camera" that uses location data and various AI tools to generate imagery, instead of old-fashioned, uh, photons.
"Paragraphica is a camera that utilizes location data and artificial intelligence to visualize a 'photo' of a specific place and moment," reads the project's webpage. "The camera displays a description of your current location, utilizing the address, weather, time of day, and nearby places."
"When pressing the trigger," it continues, "the camera will create a photographic representation of it using a text-to-image AI."
If Susan Sontag said that regular photographs are a way of imprisoning reality, we can't even begin to imagine what she'd have to say about this thing. Honestly, though, considering how omnipresent cameras — and with those cameras, image-driven social media and algorithm-powered feeds — have been in our lives for the past decade-plus, Paragraphica kind of makes sense as the natural penance.
Introducing – Paragraphica!

A camera that takes photos using location data. It describes the place you are at and then converts it into an AI-generated "photo".

— Bjørn Karmann (@BjoernKarmann) May 30, 2023
Mole Talk
If you, of course, find yourself asking "but why?" its creator Bjørn Karmann, a designer in the Netherlands, has an answer.
"As AI models are increasingly becoming conscious, it will be hard to imagine how they might see our physical world," he wrote on the project's site. "The camera offers a way of experiencing the world around us, one that is not limited to visual perception alone."
"Paragraphica' provides deeper insight," he adds, "into the essence of a moment through the perspective of other intelligences."
Conscious is a strong — and some might say both misguided and incorrect — word to use for an amalgamation of various generative AI tools, but we digress. Karmann further compares his invention to a star-nosed mole; rather than seeing by way of light, as humans — and our conventional cameras — do, these underground moles "see" by way of snout antennae (hence the antennae-like design seen on the camera's lens.)
By the designer's metaphor, then, Paragraphica offers humans a chance to "see" as an AI program does. But to that end, it could well be argued that Paragraphica, which uses APIs trained on eye-watering amounts of human-generated content, isn't seeing or understanding for itself — instead, it's just spitting a mimicry of human perception right back at us.
Art Project
To his credit, though, Karmann did clarify in a Twitter thread that his creation is simply a "passion art project," further noting that he has "no intention of making a product or challenging photography."
"Rather," he added, "it's questioning the role of AI in a time of creative tension."

Pinhole photography
Today, I did the pinhole photography workshop with Gemma. I really enjoyed it and had never did anything like that before. I learnt that it is a lensless process. It needed much longer exposure times than normal photos, especially as the day went on and the sunlight became dimmer.
The hole that let in light had to be tiny and sharp for the clearest possible image. If the hole was too big then the photo would be close clear. Some of my photos turned out very light and white because there wasn't a long enough exposure time. After 'taking' the photo we brought the pinhole cameras back to the dark room and dipped the paper into three different chemicals and there was specific time for each.
I took my photos of a scarf I crocheted for my project. I crocheted the scarf because it’s what is used depending on the weather conditions and photographing it now links my fashion and photography disciplines.
Here are some photos of the process:

The photos inverted:

I wasn’t very happy with the results. I found that my images were very blurry and shaky until I started using the clamp to hold my pinhole camera in place and this steadied the photos.
