#leverageposting in 2025

what i love so much about leverage (and now redemption), is that the creators and showrunners are so deeply aware of how people in fandom consume and appreciate media. they understand the power of the little in-jokes (the doctor who references alone lol), of genre homages (and turning character blueprints on their heads), of respecting their fans and their theories (see the "are we a poly—" fade to black this season).

they give us those nods, but tptb is still firmly in the drivers' seat, creatively. it's not at all pure fanservice, but it makes for a deeply satisfying "we're in this together" viewing experience that i haven't had with practically any other media.

it's a dialogue! the creators respect the fans and the fans respect the journeys the creators want to go on. and it doesn't hurt that the show is just so goddamn fun.

leverage s1e7 is so funny when sophie offers to feel parker’s forehead for a temperature & parker just obliges & nates in the middle NOT having it. he’s like okay when did this international grifter who once SHOT ME become a caring maternal figure to the worlds greatest thief. and the rest of us are like… ummm about 6 episodes ago buddy

not to leveragepost in 2025 but I simply must talk about the scene where hardison plays sheherazade, because I learned an arrangement of that third movement recently and I am still so impressed

for context: I started playing violin when I was five years old. Am I great? Nah. Am I able to tell when an actor is phoning it in on violin playing? Absolutely.

aldis hodge actually played that piece. They definitely found a recording to play over him because that's what you do for TV but I rewatched that scene when I was learning that solo and got tips from his fingering. he has vibrato technique. he doesn't just pick a violin up once in a while, he's legitimately a skilled violinist who also does everything else he does

im rewatching leverage so prepare for Thoughts TM for the millionth time!! as always, feel free to blacklist the tag "#leverageposting" if you don’t want to see my leverage posts. and i’m gonna tag the posts specifically about this watch through as "#lvgwatch25" (leverage watch, 2025) so you can blacklist that too if you like regular leverage content but get sick of my watch through posts lol.

im gonna try to specifically make note of character relationships, references to their pasts, and also intertextual references & allusions. why? who knows. my level of obsession with this show needs to be studied. but hopefully references to their individual pasts might actually be useful notes for other fans, like things they’ve canonically stolen and places they’ve canonically been etc. noting intertextuality is purely me geeking out over film & genre stuff but hey, maybe some of the stuff i list will be fun movie recommendations for leverage fans!
