Underrated/Underexplored anime trope: Magical Girl-type character in a shounen which is an actual high level competent combatant and overall taken seriously in the world’s power system and narrative, just that the source and aesthetics of their power are rooted in magical girl tropes.

#mamika #liu qianyan #like i love re:creators ofc but its not an action show at heart #kao ni la is junk food but the action is surprisingly good #and the characters can be surprisingly earnest #the trans joke is in pretty poor taste but at least you can skip that segment as soon as you realize how dumb it is #it does feel like when it takes itself seriously it has to cram all the buildup and payoff of that seriousness all into one moment so ti can #get back to the jokes though #its definitely a comedy first #reminds me of how people described rwby as fight scenes planned first and the rest he didn't care what they did #kao ni la feels like 3 disparate but decently competent factions strongarmed by the comedy one #the result is very brain turn off wait for the better jokes and shockingly smooth action scenes
